Chapter 100: Reckless...

Monroe.

Okay, okay. I get it. I may be the most impatient person to ever cross the face of the earth. But no one can blame me.

When faced with the type of breathtaking beauty before me, it would be impossible not to request a kiss at least.

He stared at me like I had just requested something he wasn't sure I was serious enough to ask for.

I got to my tiptoes and let my lips hover over his. One careless movement and they would merge.

“Are you a virgin, Zyle?”

He flinched at the question but shook his head a little.

I wondered why that realization was beginning to piss me off.

“Then kiss me.”

His eyes relaxed to the usual hunter-like ones that made me seem to be the prey.

“You can't say such things like that, Roe.”

Roe?

I liked the sound of that.

I wondered if I was drugged or something, but my body was craving something. Maybe it was his scent.

Definitely the cologne.

But my body needed him in ways he'd be scared if he knew.

“Why not?” I asked him, leaning closer to his neck.

What the fuck was wrong with me?

He tilted his neck to the side, giving me space to do what I wanted.

“Not everyone has such self-control.”

His voice had that baritone I was getting fond of, with a sprinkle of lust underneath.

“Really,” I whispered.

“Roe. This…”

“Shhh,” I said. “Don't ruin the mood, big dog.”

He swallowed.

“You have no idea how much I'm holding back right now.”

I knew I sounded reckless, but, well, I was being reckless.

As much as I wanted to ignore the feelings I'd had since I met him, I couldn't.

The nights I had wild dreams where he was there, and the strange pull I always felt whenever he was near me.

Fuck!

I needed to understand what was happening.

A moment between us sounded like heaven at that point.

It didn't need to be something serious. Just one night where neither of us had to think about anything else.

Me in his huge arms and him in mine.

“Roe.”

The lust in his voice made me shiver with growing anticipation.

“Yes. Call my name.”

“You are not making this easy,” he growled, his hands coming to my waist.

“That's the whole point.”

With one swift swoop, he lifted me off the floor, and I didn't hesitate to wrap my arms around him.

Every time, I always felt a sense of safety in my heart.

This is where I was always supposed to be.

Let me be reckless for one last night.

Just one.

Can I?

His hands held me firmly as I moved closer to him.

He let out a feral sound. Small, but I enjoyed every sound that fell from his lips.

I crashed my lips against his, too impatient for him to go first.

Our lips collided with feral intent.

I kissed him like I had been waiting for this moment forever.

“Fuck! your scent,” he murmured against my lips.

Whatever that meant, that was not the time to think about it.

I wrapped my hands around his neck.

He moved towards a bench, sitting on it while I straddled him.

But he didn't break the kiss even for air.

It seemed like air wasn't as important as the pull between us.

But nature was cruel.

I broke the kiss first, inhaling like I had just emerged from the sea.

Whatever fostered this feeling in me was stronger than I thought.

I moved my hips against his groin again, a language we both understood

I moved again, and immediately, something happened.

A flashback.

A broad chest with a wolf tattoo.

Sweat glistening on smooth skin.

My hand grabbing the sheets for dear life.

A golden necklace with a green pendant.

I gasped and pulled away.

What the hell was that?

The intensity in his eyes was undeniable.

But it quickly became concern.

I winced as other memories flooded my head.

The city in an orb.

The green-eyed man who looked exactly like the one I was standing before.

The lady who stabbed herself right in front of me.

I moved away, hurrying to my feet.

The attack in my house.

The liquid I was forced to drink.

A migraine hit me so badly, it felt like I had slammed my head against a pan.

Hard.

I screamed in pain, my knees buckling.

Everything around me began to blur into distorted shapes.

“Z… Zyle.”

I called out, but he was already carrying me out of there.

I grabbed my head, pressing hard as if I could stop the painful inflow of information.

“M… my… it… pain.”

“Hang in there.”

Zyle's voice was filled with panic.

My chest heaved unnaturally as I forced myself to keep my eyes open.

I knew if I let them close, it would be over.

Zyle's hands never left me for once.

Was it because of his sickness?

Or did he want to tell me he was there, and he would never leave?

Maybe the former.

‘He was the one sent to kill you in the first place.’

Words I couldn't understand continued to fill my head.

Who was sent to kill me?

A black wolf flashed in my memory.

The type I had seen in my dream.

Then a woman with an insane beauty I could never compare to.

She looked at me like I was dust.

‘He belongs to me,’ she had warned.

The pain in my head was beginning to dull my sense of reasoning.

I hadn't noticed I was screaming and crying the whole time.

Zyle had parked the car and pulled me into his arms in the driver's seat.

I wrapped my hands around his neck and buried my face in his shoulder.

The car started again, with me between him and the steering wheel.

My eyes grew heavy as the seconds ticked by.

Soon, I couldn't hear the sounds around me.

Only a distant, constant drop of water into a greater body of water.

‘You killed his mother.’

No.

I would never.

I'm sorry.

I…
