Chapter 16: Endurance

Carina's POV

I was tempted to scream, 'What the fuck is this?', when I and Cora arrived at a bigger wall that she brought me to, but I knew that using such languages was not the best thing to do, so I asked, "What is this?", instead.

"As you can see, it's a high wall."

A high wall I did not know existed. A high wall that I did not expect her to bring me to after she made me run around the field and made me starve because of endurance.

"So what purpose is it supposed to serve? ", I asked. I already knew the answer to that, but I had to confirm how crazy Cora was.

"You are to jump over it fifty times with no complaints, or I will give you something tougher", she replied casually, and I was short of words. I looked at my arms to see if I had grown some kind of wing somewhere, because surely Cora would not suggest such a thing unless she saw some kind of wing on my back or arms.

"You may be wondering why I want you to jump over all fifty times, and I will explain why. One power or strength a true wolf needs is the mastery of endurance and height.

"I thought I was done with the endurance part when I ran around the field."

"That was just an extra. I noticed that the former wall I instructed you to jump wasn't high enough, so I had to take you to this wall, which is better. Don't you think? This is one of my special tricks I used to get as strong as I am today. I am only teaching you because the tulips you gave me were very pretty. Also, you should be grateful that I am teaching you endurance, height, and stamina. Now start jumping; I will be counting", Cora said.

Honestly, jumping the high wall looked really impossible considering the fact that I had not eaten and I was gassed out from the previous activities, but I could not complain because I had asked for this and even went the extra length to get tulips from the territory I was supposed to be in. I could not look back now.

Looking up at the high walls, I thought of how impossible it was to jump once. Cora was just wicked, telling me to jump over it fifty times, if you ask me. But I was going to do it anyway; I needed to do it for Anderson.

'And for Conall', my inner mind said, but I ignored it.

I jumped. Ha! I jumped over the wall! I know it was just one jump, but I was very happy because I had done what I thought was very impossible. I was busy giving myself accolades when I heard Cora's voice from the other side of the wall: "Don't get over excited, Missy; keep jumping. You have forty-nine more jumps."

Sure madam!! She did not even want me to rejoice a little bit.

I looked around first; this other side of the wall was mostly occupied by grasses, and I saw few werewolves that were around, but they did not seem to mind that I had jumped in and was ready to jump out again. That made me know that they were members of the free packs and had probably seen crazy Cora do it.

Alright. Enough sightseeing, I had to jump back in. Breathing in and out, I tried jumping the high wall again. Well, I managed to successfully jump the high wall, but there was a problem, and that was me hitting my leg on the wall while trying to jump, and I almost landed on my face. I was smart enough to put my hand forward, so I landed on my hand. How pleasant.

"You have forty-eight more jumps to do, Carina. Quit wasting time and get on with it", Cora said, sitting down and crossing her legs. I mumbled some curses inaudibly.

"I heard that", she said, and I rolled my eyes.

Okay, maybe not inaudibly.

The next few minutes of my life were dreadful ones. Jumping out and back while using the high wall, I thought I was going to pass out. By the time I was done, I could not stand anymore; I was on the ground panting for air.

"Here, take some water", Cora finally offered to give me the water that I had asked her for while I was still jumping, but she refused to give it to me, stating that it would ruin my endurance training. Way to go, trainer!

"Thanks", I mumbled, collecting the bottle of water and gulping the water without a pause.

"You used thirty-five minutes and twenty seconds for the fifty jumps, which is not so bad for a first-timer as an Omega, but I must tell you, that's not good enough to fight a well-trained beta, not to talk about an Alpha."

Saying that suddenly replenished my strength, and I was up from the ground in seconds. "So what next?", I asked. 'Not good enough, right? I would show you that I am good enough', I said in my head.

Cora eyed me from head to toe for a while. "Next is that you go back to bed and rest. We are done with our class", she said, walking away, but I was not going to let her leave me like that.

"Wait, that can't be all. You haven't fought with me yet. Training can't be over until you have it,", I said.

"Who made that rule? I am your trainer here, and I am the one to tell you when your training is over. Besides, you are far too exhausted; you can't fight in this state and win. Resting is part of training, so you must rest. That is an order", she said.

She was right. I was completely drained and was capable of passing out any minute, but I was not good at taking orders.

"But you said you would train me only once", I said.

"Which I have", she said.

"That's not fair. I got you the tulips, and all you taught me was meditation, extended length of endurance, height, and stamina", I complained.

"That is sufficient for you", she said. I hated that statement so much, but I refused to stop following her.

"It's not sufficient; I want more", I said.

"I don't train people, Carina. I don't hold back while fighting", Cora said.

Just like your cousin, huh?

"I'm way worse than Linda herself. She holds back a lot", Cora added, as though reading my mind.

"I don't care. I want more", I said stubbornly. "How about I practice all that you have taught me today, and once I am good, I come to you and you fight against me?"

Cora smiled. "Sure, if I see that you are good enough."

By the time I got to my room, the first thing I did was climb on my bed to sleep. There were two events that I was excited about now: the fight with Cora after I properly learned the skills that she had taught me, and the meeting with Conall when it was the next full moon. Conall's face was the last face I saw in my head before everything went completely dark.

"Hey Carina, you're finally awake. I was beginning to get scared for you."

I sat up before my eyes were corporate with me to see properly. It was Charlotte sitting right beside my bed. The last thing I remembered was going to bed. What had happened was that Charlotte had to stay beside me.

"What happened?", I asked.

"You've been sleeping for nearly forty-eight hours. It was becoming scary", Charlptte replied. Aww, she cared.

I must have been really stressed out to sleep for that long, all thanks to Cora herself. "I was just very tired; I am okay now.".

"I get how tired you are. I brought you some food", she said, giving me a bowl of chicken. I smiled. I loved chicken, and she knew.

"So I felt I should tell you this. I am going to war this evening", Charlotte said, and without explanation, I understood what she meant. I would have loved to request if I could go to the war as well, but I was not sure if I could even walk yet; my body was still very weak.

"Good luck to you. Stay safe and fight well", I said, smiling. I could believe I was smiling with a beta, but I was.

"Thank you. Rest up. Goodbye. I will be back as soon as possible, and you will tell me how you were able to get Cora to train you when she refuses to train anybody", Charlotte said, blowing kisses at me before leaving.

They were bending their rules for me, I guess. First it was Conall, now it was Cora.

You would think that I would rest since I was weak, but no, I did not rest. I went back to train on my endurance, and guess what? I used those very high walls to train.
