Chapter 39: 39
“Grey?” Ela’s voice filled the empty cafeteria.
Grey was just finishing her five doughnut.
“How many of those have you had?” Ela eyed the tiny ball of napkins in front of Grey.
“I don’t know, maybe five.”
Ela pulled the chair out and sat where West had been minutes ago.
“We just spoke to Connor! You’ll never believe what he said!”
Grey’s eyes went wide. She grabbed Ela’s hands to quiet her down.
“What did he say?”
No one was around not even the guy who sold the delicious doughnuts.
“Connor said he did see Porsha. Like they fucked in the back of his car. He said she got emotional when they started talking about Patricia. He admitted to sleeping with Patricia a couple times because she was desperate—”
“I can’t believe he would say that about her.”
Ela shook her head, “Apparently, Patty had done this a couple times. Sky admitted to turning her down multiple times. He said he couldn’t sleep with her because they were friends. Even Sky has morals, who knew?”
Grey rubbed her shoulders, she felt uncomfortable talking about her friend who was no longer with them.
“Lewis admitted to the same thing, but he didn’t sleep with her either. These boys are surprising me today honestly.”
“Wait, so Porsha was with Connor, you didn’t finish.” Grey said.
“Yes, right. He said they got into a huge argument. She said she was better than everyone. She said she was glad that bitch was dead. I could only imagine she was talking about Patty. She grabbed the wheel and the car swerved into a tree. I don’t know how we didn’t notice any bruises on her.”
“That’s because she was hiding away. I think we really have to check out that factory.”
“We should go with Sky. I’m not going into a haunted building without backup.”
“It isn’t haunted—”
“Where do you two think you’re going with Sky?” Mia appeared in front of them. She wore a pair of dark blue shorts and a white vest. She crossed her arms over her chest and dipped her head.
“Noting you need to concern yourself with Mia.” Ela said.
“Not when my boyfriend is involved.”
“Sky isn’t your boyfriend. You’re so obsessed with him.” Grey pushed her chair back and stood so did Ela.
They were about to leave when Mia called them back.
“Wait. I heard you talking about Porsha. Is she really behind this? Did she put the guys in the hospital?”
The girls paused and stared at each other. Mia was implicated in this.
“We think so. We’re going to find out.” Grey responded.
“Are you guys going to confront her?”
“No, we just think she’s hiding something at an old factory.”
Mia nodded and walked ahead of them, “Let’s go.”
Ela and Grey stared at each other. “We didn’t invite her.” Ela hissed.
“Looks like there’s no stopping her.”
The girls followed until they got to Lewis’ room.
“Let’s go, we’re going to kick Porsha’s ass.” Mia said.
Sky eyed Ela and Grey then he groaned. “Do you have to come?”
She whirled in response and walked out. Grey shrugged. Sky grabbed his jacket and walked out along with the girls. They took Mia’s car which was fast than the SUV. They got to the factory and it was dark and menacing. Grey shivered just like the first time she had been there.
“It’s so gross! Do I have to go in? What if there’s something in there worse than Porsha?” Ela bit her bottom lip.
Mia gripped the wheel and rolled her eyes. “No, Ela stay here all alone while everyone else goes inside. We won’t be able to hear you scream when we’re inside the factory.”
Ela cringed, “Okay, I’ll come.”
Sky climbed out of the passenger seat first. “We’ve got to stick together in there. I’m sure it’s got rotting wood so be careful.”
The girls nodded. If Porsha was wandering around in an abandoned factory how was she getting in? They tried the front door and it was boarded up with a thick metal piece over the wood. Sky ran his hand over the piece of metal. His hand came back to him covered in murk.
“Someone didn’t want anyone getting inside.” Sky said.
“Do we know what type of factory this used to be for? Or who owned it?” Mia ran her hands up and down her shoulders.
Ela pulled out her phone. “It won’t be that hard to find out.”
“Let’s try the back. I saw a couple of low windows around there.”
Everyone followed Grey to the back of the factory. Where the mud was sticker and the darkness was nastier. Grey came to an abrupt halt, making Ela shriek.
“What is it!”
“Quiet Ela. We don’t want to alarm anyone here.” Mia hissed.
“Footsteps. Looks like sneakers.” Grey said.
Sky stepped in front of Grey, glaring at the footsteps before the road they led to. “This way.”
They were careful not to smudge the footsteps. The trail led to a door under a set of stairs that went upward. Sky pulled out his torch and the others followed suit.
They stared at each other. Grey swallowed. The footsteps stopped here. They had to go in if they wanted to know what was going on.
“I guess this is it.” Grey said.
“Remember to stay close.” Sky said.
He slowly approached the door and gripped the handle. It turned and rolled inward. He took the first step, using his torch to lead the way. The smell of stagnant water and condensed air hit them instantly.
“Are we in the basement?” Grey lit her light up to the concrete ceiling.
“I guess we have to find a set of stairs.” Mia glanced her phone lit to the wall and gasped at the foul graffiti.
They came to a set of solid cement stairs. They didn’t have to worry about falling through. Grey grimaced at the rat poop scattered around. She kept her eyes forward.
“Where do we even look?” Sky asked. They got to a section with a couple doorways.
Grey glanced her torch into the first doorway and half expected to be meet with someone hiding away inside.
“If Porsha is hiding something out here it should still be here. I’ll check those rooms over there.” Sky said before cautiously walking to the last room at the end of the hall.
Unlike the other rooms Mia was staring at the only room with a door. The girls stared at it knowing they had to check it out.
“Here goes nothing.”
