Chapter 32
“He was fine when I left him last night.” Grey said when they were all piled into West’s car.
“Oh so you were with him as well last night too.” Mia spat.
“We weren’t doing anything Mia!” Grey groaned loudly.
“Whatever! Who would poison Sky?” Mia asked, wrapping her arms around herself in the back seat.
“Sky and Lewis. Told y’all this wasn’t a coincidence.”
“Time to go to the police if you ask me.” Grey muttered.
West placed his hand on her thigh, “You might be right babe.”
Connor and Lewis were still in the hospital. They believed that whoever was with Connor and Lewis was the same woman who managed to elude them. If only one of them would wake up they would have a lead. Grey hoped Sky wasn’t too bad. He was fine when they met last night. It had her thinking if Porsha was okay too. Someone was after her friends and her included. Her other secret couldn’t be kept hidden for long. She needed to get to West before that secret was exposed first.
She would have to find a better time to speak to West, but for now she texted Porsha asking if she was okay. She tucked her phone away and focused on the road. They would be at the hospital in a few minutes. She couldn’t lose another friend. She wouldn’t call Connor her friend, but Lewis and Sky she feared something might happen to them.
West never removed his hand from her thigh, sensing his girlfriend needed all the support she could get. They got to the hospital and all hurried inside. West flashed his last name and they were immediately ushered to his room. To their surprise they found Sky awake. A nurse was just taking his vital signs.
“Sky!” Mia exclaimed and dashed to his side.
He groaned, “Ugh, why did you bring her?”
“Don’t be a dick we came to see you.” Ela said. “How on earth did you get yourself poisoned anyway?”
Sky covered his eyes with his arms, “I’m never drinking again.”
“Of course this had to come from alcohol.” Ela shook her head.
“Who were you drinking with Sky? Did they take anything from you?” There was no way Grey believed this was a random attack it was too much of a coincidence.
Still it wouldn’t hurt to find out all the details.
“No one out of the ordinary. I have all my stuff. My ID, I had a thousand dollars in my wallet. Nothing was taken. All my credit cards. I don’t get it.”
“Someone tried to kill you bro.” West muttered.
Sky moved uncomfortably on the bed, “I can see that, but why?”
“Who were you drinking with? Could give us a clue.” Grey asked.
Sky puffed out his cheeks, “I was with a couple friends from the other university, Porsha and Becca.”
“Why the hell would you be drinking with those bimbos?” Mia frowned.
“They just showed up.”
“Must have been someone at the bar. I think it may be time to go to the police.” West said.
Grey nodded.
“Finally. How am I going to sleep knowing I could be next?” Ela shivered.
“Don’t be so dramatic.” Mia scrawled.
“I need a coffee.” Ela walked out. Mia considered and followed her out, leaving Grey and West with Sky.
“What did the doctor say?” West asked.
“Said the poison wasn’t lethal because whoever did this didn’t use enough.”
“Then maybe murder wasn’t the intention.” West mumbled.
“You should probably think about all the people you pissed off Sky.” Grey said.
Sky groaned. That might take a while.
“We need to talk man.” Sky looked at his cousin. “Now.”
West looked at his girlfriend. Grey sighed. She knew there was no way she was staying. West reached for her, but she raised her hands and stepped aside.
“I know, I know.”
“It’ll only take a minute.” West said, but Grey was already out the door.
She wasn’t ready to spend time with Mia yet. She found herself in the hospital café and watched as Mia and Ela bickered about coffee or something just as unimportant. Grey felt bad. She shouldn’t have kissed Sky. There was no taking it back now. She pulled out her phone to see if Porsha texted her back. There was no text back.
She walked outside of the building to get some air. She couldn’t shake the worry though. If Porsha and Sky were drinking together didn’t that put Porsha at some sort of risk? She didn’t want to call Ela or Mia. Considering the bad blood between Porsha and Mia she wouldn’t want to help Porsha. She’d taken the keys from West and got into the car to make a call.
Porsha’s phone rang a couple times before she picked up.
“Grey?”
“Hey… Sky’s in the hospital. He told us you guys were drinking together so I just thought I’d check up on you.”
“What? Sky told you that? He’s awake?”
Grey blinked a couple times, “Yeah… isn’t that true?”
“No. His drunk ass probably doesn’t even know who he was with.”
“He was poisoned… I just—”
“He needs to be careful. Wouldn’t be surprised if it was Mia getting revenge. I’d be careful Grey she might come after you next. You did try to steal him.”
“Wait it wasn’t like that—” The sound of a metal pipe dropping on a concrete floor spiked Grey’s heart rate. “Where are you?” She couldn’t imagine something like that came from a dorm room.
“Nothing.” Porsha said calmly. “I’ve got to take care of something.”
Grey caught the same sound again louder this time before the phone died on her.
Grey let the phone settle on her lap. Why did that feel so weird? She didn’t feel like she got off the phone with her friend. It was like talking to… a stranger. Her voice was rushed and her breathing was heavy as if she was doing hard labor.
“Maybe Sky was right.” She remembered the spooky factory they went to.
Was Porsha hiding something out there? Curiosity would be her cause of death, but she had to know what her friend was hooked up in. Nasty accusations were knitting together in her mind. Ones she didn’t want to say out loud. The only way to kill those accusations was to find out the truth. She brought the engine to life, the headlights lit up the parking lot.
