Chapter 7: The Mission (3)

Hearing the name of their destination, the whole world stilled around Amy. Although memories of Reagan’s life transmitted to her during their mating ritual had become vague lately, namely the cons of them being apart for so long or her wolf being sealed; still, Amy knew that BEWICK’s LUXURY INTERNATIONAL HOTEL belonged to Reagan and no one else.

Additionally, recalling that their target has no background and that he was only addressed as Mr Easton with no history of who his family are and wears a mask, it finally dawned on Amy, who they were tasked to apprehend. It was her mate. How could she have forgotten his disguised name was Easton? She is on a mission to deliver the love of her life to a secret organisation.

Amy burst out laughing at her current predicament. Was the universe playing a sick joke on them? She had suffered every second without him in it for two whole years, intending to avoid the disaster that would befall them, only for her to walk right back into his circle.

Another thing was, knowing how strong he was, how was she going to succeed in apprehending him even if she wanted to? Because as it stands now, her womanly wits could be forgotten considering that she would end up being the one under his mercy instead of the other way around. That was always the case for her in the past. Just his proximity alone always sent her insides skyrocketing with need. And his touches? It always skimmed through her skin like an inferno that had her turn jelly in a matter of seconds, and when he entered her… That always was the end because, under such circumstances, only a particular outcome could be expected, her screaming his name for the universe to hear whilst he brought her to the promised land multiple times. So yes, her woman power was out of it when it came to that handsome devil as she regards him.

Then again, how did he end up on the wanted list of Neural?

Amy remained frozen on the spot Brianna had left her. The cars that wanted to exit the garage began to hunk impatiently as she was blocking the exit, leaving the rest to use the other portal, but Amy heard none of it. Her hands were quivering in anxiety as her most anticipated moment finally was to befall her. Even though she had anticipated all possible outcomes; still, Amy couldn’t help but felt dreadful. Whatever she had banked on as the upshot were merely her assumptions as she could not tell what the actual event would be.

“What should I do, Alyx? Is the future really inevitable?” Amy questioned the being that resided within her, hoping to get some sort of reassurance that all would be okay. She wanted to hear Alyx tell her that all the unwanted happenings in her life were merely her imagination and that it was time for her to wake up from it. Starting from the day she had deserted him, she wished all of it was one big dream.

Alyx sighed helplessly inside her. “I don’t know, kid,” Alyx said dejectedly. “We could run away again. This time, not just from your mate, but the organisation.”

“You know that is not possible. You know they would hound me down if I left since I know too much about their operations to have me walk away freely.” Amy voiced in low spirit. “This whole situation has just gotten even more complicated. It wouldn’t be fate alone we would be facing, but the agency as well.”

Why was life so against them? Why couldn’t she, like every young adult, just enjoy her love life? Why couldn’t the mistakes that happened millenniums ago be washed off? Hasn’t she and her mate suffered enough to wash off whatever sins they had committed? Amy choked back her tears as she clawed on the car steering wheel in frustration.

Right at that moment, “Amy!” Brianna’s voice came through the wired mini in-ear receiver. “Where the hell are you?”

Amy sucked in a couple of deep breaths to calm herself before responding, “Not far behind!” She said calmly as though it was a different person that was on the verge of a breakdown a couple of seconds ago. “Go ahead. I will catch up with you!”

“Do you know your way? Please don’t tell me you are having one of your episodes again?!” Brianna voiced her concern.

Amy forced laughter. “I am not having any chapters, B. If you are worried I would get lost, don’t be. There is the navigator, and I will find my way using it!”

“Humm…” Brianna hummed. “I will be at the hotel’s parking lot, waiting for you should your arrival take longer!”

“Okay, B!” That said, Amy stepped on the gas, and the high-pitched hum sound of the engine reverberated as she finally sped off from the garage after she steeled her resolve to deal with whatever the night may throw at her.

Brianna was the first to arrive at their destination, while Amy followed not long after. She had driven like a maniac as her mind ran wild on her, and it was big luck she had no accident.

Putting the car to a park, “We should act like we do not know one another since those two would most likely be sitting together!” Amy spoke into the wireless device and simultaneously brought out her mobile phone to inform her date of her arrival.

Brianna agreed to Amy’s suggestion. She glanced through her front mirror at where the white Aston Martin was parked, which was a little distance away from her position, before saying, “You are right. That prick is waiting at the door, so I guess I will see you inside!”

Picking up her clutches, Brianna stepped out of her car to walk towards the entrance she hoped to reach without much hassle due to how packed with people it was, mainly reporters. “Keep in mind at all times why we are here. Once the target makes his appearance, we must act without delay!!” With those parting words transmitted through the wireless communication, Brianna quickened her footsteps as she advanced toward her date, that was waiting for her.

Amy said nothing as she stepped out of her car after making sure a couple of minutes passed following Brianna’s exit from the parking lot and walked elegantly to the entrance clouded with stringers.

Considering the kind of people that were to attend this masquerade ball, it was no surprise to see the crowd outside, Amy surmised.

Also, with the name people addressed her mate, she knew he would be the centre of attraction on this occasion. Yeah, she knew he was inconceivably wealthy. However, she had not expected his influence to be this vast.

Another thing that she could not make out was why the secret service was after him? From what she understood about her mate, he was an upright guy who wouldn’t do shady things, especially drug trafficking. A lot might have changed during the two years they had been apart…still, she couldn’t believe that things would switch to the extent that he now does the very things he despised in the past. That could not be the case, and she was sure of it.
