Chapter 75: Discussion About Future Choices

I got a call from my father saying he would meet me at my mother’s grave. After returning from work, I rushed there. I saw my father squatting by my mother’s grave and occasionally caressing the headstone. The autumn afternoon breeze was like that of the North Pole, perhaps because it was about to enter winter.

I approached my father with inaudible steps, but when I arrived near him, my father could easily guess me. I intended to eavesdrop on him; he might have said something I didn’t want to know in front of my mother. Since we met again and learned his true identity, I felt my father had some secrets.

“I knew things would get worse when I left you two. But there’s no other way around it, being an omega is always about accepting all risks. I can’t explain more to your mother and spend more time with her.” My father started talking with his gaze fixed on my mother’s tombstone.

“She survived because of me, and I did too. We rarely talk about you, probably because she’s a woman devastated by her unfortunate fate. Mom is only human, after all.” I recalled the times when my mother was alive, and we had a difficult life.

“I was the thing that hurt her the most and the thing she loved the most. Do you know that when one is bound to an omega, one is bound forever? They will both be the most beautiful and painful thing to ever come into each other’s lives.” My father exhaled, and I saw the sadness on his face. It affected me; it felt intense and sad but couldn’t end.

Would Rion go through the same thing if I left him? Would he be tormented?

That question triggered my deepest desire to trigger again my revenge plan to rise to the surface.

“Both Rion and you will receive a dark period in life. Especially Rion, pairing up with an omega who is only a human means being prepared to spend half his life living a lifetime of sadness.” My father turned to look at me, and we stared at each other for a moment without speaking. I exhaled and felt that this conversation was so vulnerable. I looked down and stared at the grass on the surface of my mother’s neatly cut and shaped grave.

Perhaps it was a fitting punishment for Rion for his betrayal of me. If I were to die, he would spend the rest of his life saddened by my passing. Just like my father. Should I punish Rion in such a way?

“Rion will remain immortal, until he decides to die. While you have a time limit and a vulnerable state. You may die of disease or age, but Rion and father escaped all that. We don’t follow the circle of time, Rion’s kingdom will always exist until all his descendants wish for death and annihilation.” My father’s explanation sounded both frightening and painful. From Rion’s and my father’s perspective, it was a lifetime of hell.

“Is there any way I can escape the time loop?” I thought that maybe I wasn’t that heartless to let my baby’s father be tortured. After all, our child would live with us, and he would witness this injustice.

“Unless you join us.” My father answered my question, which sounded strange. Being an immortal alone is not a joyous thing; it’s depressing. But I hadn’t thought about that. I was thinking about whether my relationship with Rion could last. Were our feelings purely out of attraction or because that predestined instinct bound us?

I exhaled loudly. I stroked my bulging belly and felt a slight movement inside. If I chose not to marry Rion and raise this child alone, would our destinies have to remain intertwined? Could I be a mother to this baby? Being by Rion’s side and being Luna is difficult for me.

“Think about it, Amelia, if you decide to stay by Rion’s side you have to be ready to accept the risks and so does Rion. You have to be ready to give Rion time to feel alone and lonely for half of his life.” My father seemed to be holding back his sadness as he said that while staring at my mother’s grave without blinking. I thought my father didn’t have any feelings when he left me and my mother, but what I see now is that I seem to know the hurt he harbored and the sacrifice he tried to make at the cost of his happiness.

I took my father’s arm and leaned on his shoulder. The feeling of sadness that my father felt was able to feel so real that it made me cry without being able to hold it in. Even though I was crying silently, my heart seemed to be torn apart.

“I don’t want you to give the same thing I gave your mother to someone else, Mia. But it seems like the circle of fate must pass through you and connect with you.” My father said in a voice that sounded deep. I wiped the tears off my face with the handkerchief I carried in my pocket.

“I found a necklace in Mom’s valuables storage box. Is that necklace from you, Dad?” I remembered the beautiful green jeweled necklace.

“Yes, it’s mine, inherited from grandpa’s family. You’re entitled to it. I was going to give you the necklace on your sixteenth birthday, but I just left it with your mom to give to you later.” My father’s explanation left me speechless. Ever since my mom and I were alone, we rarely talked about my dad.

“Mom rarely talks about you, probably because your leaving hurt her.” It was just my assumption, but I could see the sadness in my mom’s eyes all along.

“I know, my apology can’t erase her grief and you’ll carry that guilt for the rest of your life.” My father reached for my hand and grasped it, then patted the back of my hand with a light pat as if he was giving me the strength to survive the current situation.

As my father and I left the cemetery, Rion called me on the way home.

“Hello, where are you? I waited for you at your apartment door and rang the bell so many times I almost broke the bell and broke the door.” Rion sounded annoyed; I smiled at his temperament that didn’t like to wait.

“I’ll be there soon, I’m going to my mother’s grave with my father.” I also told Rion my destination today.

“Hurry up and get here before I break into your apartment door.” Rion ended his call, and I could only exhale loudly.

What a warm-blooded dog! I complained and increased the speed of my car to get to the apartment.
