Chapter 66: Say it isn't so!

I loved this moment with him, we talked about everything. He helped catch me up on his pack, and the community festival that was approaching. I wish that he could invite me, I have a strong feeling that it would create an uproar with his father. I could tell there is more that he wants to tell me but, does not give any hints. His eyes are sad, and I am not one to pry. I just want to enjoy my time with him.

He finishes sharing his story, I excuse myself as I walk away from the table and head back upstairs so I can dress for the day. I feel him following behind me, before I can enter my bedroom, I feel him approach me from behind and, his arms wrap around me. I feel myself start to become heated again, as he begins to trail gentle kisses down my neck to my shoulder.

He whispers in my ear “I want you to know and always remember, that I am not going anywhere.”

my breath hitches, and my heart jumps in excitement. He sucks on my ear as I release a breathy moan.

“Never again, I cannot be without you Molly, never!" I nod.

"Yes, I accept the bond to both of you, I cannot lose you again!” he says as he pulls me tighter to his body like he is trying to weld us together.

I release a shaky breath, my heart beating excitedly at his words.

I chant in my head ‘he is not going anywhere! he is here to stay.’

I let myself rest on his chest as he continued to hold me and kiss my neck. I never thought I would ever feel this but, perhaps the traumatic events he endured served a higher purpose, they helped him realize where he belonged and brought him back to me.

I detangled myself from him and entered my room to change out of my nightly attire and look more presentable for the rest of the day. Once I finished my ablutions, I found him sitting on the chaise lounge outside of my door. I held his hand, and we left the house to go out for the day.

“Well baby girl, where do you want to go?” I smiled.

We spent the entire day together. I asked him if he had ever spent time in Liverpool before, and he informed me that he had only been to Liverpool that one other time. I beamed at him with the thought of giving him a tour.

“Well then, I shall be your hostess through my territory” we both laughed as I curtsied and walked towards my car.

Suddenly Callan looked at me.

“I just remembered hearing something” I look at him suspiciously.

“What is it?” He smiles at me.

“Your birthday is coming up” he wiggles his eyebrows.

I look into his eyes and there is a new hunger there that is so intense I focus on my driving, so I do not combust in the car. I feel his hand on my thigh.

“I cannot wait for that special night” he says in a deep voice.

I gulp, and my wolf is purring like a bloody cat! I deeply inhale at what both of them are doing.

“So, how about we go shopping?” I suggest trying to change the topic.

I know that I need to shop for a new fall wardrobe, and I need to prepare to attend Cambridge with David. The thought of not seeing Callan breaks my heart, I decide to just enjoy my time with him. I know that I will see him if not all the time, we will be together.

I wish he could attend school with us, maybe I could suggest it? Then we could all be together. He holds my hand in his, my thoughts consume me as we drive toward the shopping plaza.

We drove to St. Johns shopping center. I remember with clarity now, the last time we both were in this same situation. It was on a Monday, it happened nearly two months ago. During that time, I was under my mother's influence. I was blind to the evil vixen hiding inside of her, the loving mother façade was all it was.

I remember it like it was yesterday, he came looking for me and we shopped here. That feels like a lifetime ago. As we walk through the stores, I muster up the courage to inquire with him if he would ever consider attending Cambridge or somewhere closer.

I really want to make this work between us. He informs me that he had never given it a thought, but he loves the idea. I am surprised to hear that he has no intention of taking over his father's position. He hates that he will have to return.

"Perhaps attending school will give me the opportunity to be free of him?” He gives me a bear hug and claims my lips as if he is thanking me for the thought.

As we walk around, I continue walking to ignore the women around giving Callan bedroom eyes. I am taken aback as I see Barbara, my heart aches, she looks so different. She had styled her hair and clothes in the latest fashion. I notice her mother’s influence, as she holds her head haughtily. She is being escorted by a man who is very handsome and holds an air of superiority.

Callan releases a low growl. I look at him in question.

“That is Alpha Ludger, he is a pompous asshole. He owns a chain of hotels in London, France, and different cities in America.”

My eyebrows raise, “that is my former best friend with him, her mother broke our friendship after we finished secondary school.” I say as I look down at the floor.

“For years she acted like a second mother to me then, she became awful. She believed my mother to be a gold-digging prostitute and wanted Barbara to be around people of higher society, it broke our hearts.”

I said holding back tears “I see she got her wish, her mother said “like mother like daughter” she said that I would eventually grow into a gold-digging harlot, and she ripped her away from me as a friend. Forced her to attend a different University so we would never see each other again” I whispered in sadness.

“Molly I am so sorry” he quietly said as I stared at her.

She turned towards us, sensing someone watching her she looked over in shock, I could see in her eyes that she wanted to see me but kept walking with Ludger. I wonder if she knows who he is? Noticing my discomfort Callan pays for everything, and we make our way toward the entrance.

He can sense I need to get away from here. It is like he reads my mind, as we are passing a store, I see her in there talking with him. She turns and watches us walk out, our eyes lock, and I look at her with longing. I mouth to her “I miss you my friend” her eyes water, and she turns away. Right before I am out the door, Ludger turns.

“What are you looking at?" he says.

He catches sight of me, and I try not to look at him. Callan is already out the door, before the door closes, I see his eyes sparkle, and a devious smile appears on his lips. I feel a burning stare in my back, I dare not turn around.

He hangs his head in shame, I feel a sharp phantom pain of betrayal in my chest all over again, I hear my wolf cry for her mate who she had just come to love. I just have him back, and now I am losing him again. My head continues to spin as I succumb to darkness.
