Chapter 100

Mihai PoV

“She’s turned it off!” I shout, running faster than I’ve ever ran before.

We are close, I can see the fires. But the fighting had already begun. I can hear it, and I know that Mae is fighting for her life.

She turned the earpiece off because she thinks she’s going to die, but I won’t let her. I can’t lose her. Not now.

I can’t live without her.

“We are almost there!” Luther shouts back, but his words don’t bring me comfort.

I must hope that we have brought enough men to deal with the hunters. These guys are the real deal, and they won’t take prisoners.

As we draw closer, I see Mae surrounded by the enemy, she’s fighting hard, but from why I can see, they’re going easy on her.

The hunters words ring in my ears. They’re going to try and take her alive so that they can torture her.

Not on my watch.

I won’t let them do that to her.

“Mae!” I shout as she goes down, blood oozing from her right shoulder.

She looks at me, a new determination in her eyes and she slowly stands back up, readying a weapon she stole. She rushes towards a guy, catching him completely off guard as she slams the butt of the sword into his stomach, winding him.

I smile, that’s my girl.

Luther makes it there first, and he rips one of the guards away from Mae, snapping his neck so fast I almost miss it.

The three members of the council are surrounded by more men than I can count, they clearly brought more and hid them in the trees. No wonder Mae thought she was dead, there’s no way she would have been able to defeat them all.

Mae doesn’t know how to control her powers yet, but she’ll learn. She’s a quick learner. She just needs some time.

In the meantime, she’s already a good fighter. I’m kind of grateful that she was raised by these monsters. It made her strong, even if she does have trauma.

I just need her to be strong right now.

I rush forward, grabbing one of the men towards the back, throwing him against a tree. Humans are fragile, I think I broke his back.

Men are fighting all around me, and some are dying, but all I can concentrate on is getting to Mae, she’s bleeding heavily now, and it won’t be long before she’s unable to pick up the sword. I need to get to her before that happens.

The men may have orders to keep her alive, but that doesn’t mean that they will. Hunters hate the Nati, and that exactly what Mae is.

Three men corner me, stopping me from getting closer, their weapons drawn. I smile, I do love a good fight.

The one to my left strikes first, raising his blade and rushing towards me, I rip the blade from his hand in a movement he can’t quite follow and stab him in the lower stomach. He goes down, screaming like a little girl.

They know how to make other people hurt, but they cannot handle pain themselves, pathetic.

The one in the middle screams in fury and runs at me at the exact same time as the one to my right. But I’m ready for them.

I use the blade to stop the first guy and kick the second in the ribs. A load snap reaching my ears. I broke a few of his ribs. Good.

He doubles over, groaning.

The first guy swings the blade at me again, shouting and grunting with eat blow. But it doesn’t faze me. I’ve dealt with these guys my whole life. I know how they work. They think they’re strong, but they’re not. They’re not stronger than me.

The second guy recovers quicker than I expected, swing his blade wildly, I don’t flinch when it penetrates my arm, I don’t even wince. I use my arms to protect my chest and kick him again. This time in the knee and he falls to the ground.

The Screaming man roars again, rushing forward, but I manage to block his blow with sheer strength and I kick him back a few steps, managing to catch him off guard and stab him in the chest.

His eyes go wide like he can’t believe what just happened as he falls into the dirt, rolling onto his back and looking up at the stars. I’ll let him die there, it was a fatal blow.

I turn to the second man who’s still on the ground, his eyes wide and tears sliding down his cheeks.

“Mercy.” He cries.

Pathetic. He’s utterly pathetic.

“I don’t know the meaning of the word.” I say and stab him in the neck, smiling at he gargles in panic.

He does a coward, but I live on.

I spot Luther trying to get to the council members, but I don’t follow him, sure they need to die, but I’d rather get Mae to safety first, and then scold her for turning of the earpiece.

I can’t see Mae anymore, there are too many bodies.

I hope she isn’t dead.

“Mae!” I shout. “Scream for me.”

“I’ve Heard that before.” I hear her say from inside the crowd of men.

I want to fucking kiss her right here and now, but I have to get her out first.

I rush forward, attacking even as I’m surrounded myself. I can deal with multiple enemies at once, but I’ve lost count of how many there are. How many did the council bring? They are probably a hundred hunters, maybe more, and they all want to get to my love.

Cowards the lot of them. They can’t even fight their own battles; the hunter council are a joke, and I’m going to show them that.

“Mae.” I shout. “I’m coming.”

“No you’re not, Nati.” One of the soldiers say, eyes dark.

“Oh yes I am.” I smile as cold as ice, lifting my blade. “And if you think you can stop me, I’m going to split your head open and prove you wrong.”

He laughs, actually fucking laughs at me like I’m dirt breath his shoe. I’ll show him. I’ll show them all just what I can do when someone I love is in danger.

He’s going to die, they all are.

And I’m going to enjoy every second of it.
