Chapter 74 A Gentle Answer to Envy from Caspian
Chapter 74 A Gentle Answer to Envy from Caspian
I bit my lip and touched the tip of my nose.
The next moment, I lied outright.
"Moldy. Got all gross."
The word mold was pure fantasy for this city in spring.
Caspian said, "Really? Then I want to see for myself."
I quickly turned sideways to avoid him. "They only cost a dozen dollars anyway, so it's normal if they got moldy. They won't be suitable to wear when the weather gets warmer... I'll take them down and throw them away."
As I spoke, I slipped past Caspian and walked toward the elevator.
Caspian still stood at the door, and after about a minute, he walked to the elevator, pressed the button, and looked at me standing motionless in the car.
When the elevator doors opened again, I seemed to wake up, lifted my eyes to see the man standing outside, and was stunned for two more seconds before realizing I hadn't pressed a floor.
But I still didn't move.
We both stood inside and outside the door, looking at each other like that.
After a while, I looked at him and finally said in a low voice, "The slippers aren't moldy. I thought you weren't coming anymore, so I wanted to throw them away."
Caspian's eyes were calm, just looking at me. "Then now that I'm here, what do you think?"
I pouted, walked out of the elevator, and the next moment, threw the trash bag into his arms.
In the end, the trash bag was brought back home, and together with Caspian's leather shoes, was quietly placed at the entrance.
The sound of water in the bathroom gurgled, and the heat in the small bathroom steamed up, filled with the body temperature and sounds of two people.
I felt like it was a different world.
Since I'd left the city, it had been so long, so quiet.
When I came back, he seemed to have changed and was no longer close to me.
It had been so long since we'd been right.
Even between lips and teeth, it seemed to have become strange.
Caspian's kiss was very light, a lightness I'd never experienced from him before, so strange I didn't know how to respond.
Until I heard his deep voice say, "Open your mouth."
I did as I was told.
Everything finally became familiar again.
The strange and familiar, the long gone but still fitting, seemed to finally find the right direction, and unconsciously, each sought the source of comfort.
Only the roughness between his fingers remained.
It had clearly faded a lot.
But it was still the most sudden and strange presence in this affair.
When we came back to bed from the bathroom and finally calmed down, my hand was still holding his.
I was still unconsciously stroking the pads of his fingers.
He seemed to have regained his original form, both physically and in physique, back to his familiar appearance.
The only thing that could confirm he'd changed was the roughness remaining between his fingers.
I was curious but didn't ask, just leaned in his embrace, quietly losing my mind.
And Caspian lowered his eyes, able to see my movements.
Maybe I wasn't conscious of it, but Caspian still asked, "What are you thinking about?"
My thoughts immediately returned, and the previous fugue was all annihilated in the depths of distant memory, hard to find a trace.
"Nothing..." I mumbled in response.
Caspian glanced at me again and slowly withdrew his hand.
I suddenly came back to myself and turned to look at him. "Are you leaving?"
Caspian just looked at me. "Do you want me to leave, or do you want me to stay?"
Only then did I react. He'd only pulled his hand back, his body hadn't moved.
Maybe at that moment, he hadn't intended to leave.
But I also knew in my heart that he couldn't stay here overnight.
His appearance at Moonrise Terrace might not be conspicuous, but his appearance here was still too sudden.
I didn't answer, just lifted my head and kissed him.
For me, it was actually just a subconscious action.
But for Caspian, it was more like an invitation.
After Caspian lowered his head to look at me, he reached out to hold the back of my head.
We kissed again anyway.
I didn't know if it was because of my shallow experience, but I always felt he was very good at kissing and could easily kiss someone senseless.
And what happened after that was under his control.
But this time, he just kissed me, and he kissed me for a long time.
When Caspian left, it was already four in the morning.
I lay in bed not wanting to move, listening to his movements as he left, and quickly fell asleep.
When I woke up the next morning, I remembered yesterday's trash bag, and when I went to the entrance, it was gone.
Caspian actually had the habit of helping people throw out trash.
"How nice..."
After showering, I made myself a cup of coffee and sat on the sofa staring blankly at the TV.
In recent months, I'd always had so many things to do when I opened my eyes, and it seemed like I didn't have a free moment all day. But now that I was really idle, I seemed a bit confused instead.
When I was wandering off into space, my phone suddenly rang.
I glanced at the screen and quickly answered.
On the other end was one of the old drivers from the Courier Company, and I'd deliberately left my phone number when I went to the courier company last time.
"Young miss, I know Mr. Quinn just passed away, and you must be sad, but you can't ignore company affairs, right? We were all touched by what you said when you came to the company last time. Thank you so much... But how can company policy change overnight like this? How are we supposed to work this way?"
After answering the phone, I quickly changed clothes and went to the courier company.
When I arrived, I found that after I'd handed over management of Quinn Industries, they'd sent someone else to the courier company to manage it. But that person was using policy like a child's game and making arbitrary decisions, turning the company upside down in just a few days.
"What a fool..."
I went to the office and met with the new management.
The other party claimed to be a relative of Evelyn's family and was very rude to me.
"Richard Quinn is gone. Do you know what surname this company has now? The Quinn surname! Besides, you're not surnamed Quinn either. Why are you, someone surnamed Blackwoods, pointing fingers in front of me?"
Hearing this, I knew there was no point in talking to him anymore, so I reassured the drivers and others, promising I would definitely provide a solution to satisfy them.
Leaving the courier company, I called Evelyn and asked her to come out and meet me.
On the way, I thought about it and called Grayson again, asking if he knew about the progress of the economic case involving the Quinn family.
Since Richard Quinn's death, I'd handed over company management to Evelyn's family almost with a broken jar mentality and never cared about it again.
I actually didn't know if Grayson was still responsible for these things.
However, when the call connected, Grayson told me, "Coincidentally, Marcus just told me that this matter is almost resolved. Don't worry."
I was stunned. "Are you and Marcus still busy with this problem?"
"What else?" Grayson said. "Caspian gave the death order for us. This matter must be resolved."
