Chapter 196: Another Trouble

Gabriella was doing her best to keep calm; otherwise, she would've kicked Jennifer out already.

But Gabriella had only recently joined the company.

No connections, no background.

If she ticked off a major client this early, it would definitely stir up a lot of gossip.

Gabriella hated that kind of attention.

So, she simply stood up and walked out the door.

Jennifer's lips curled into a smile, and even her eyes sparkled.

The satisfaction of having control over an old enemy was indescribable, especially seeing Gabriella unable to revolt in front of her. It made Jennifer feel even better.

Gabriella should always be under her foot.

It was like avenging all those years of grudges.

The warm sunlight shone on Gabriella, but it couldn't dispel the gloom in her heart.

The café across the street wasn't far, but just thinking about Jennifer's face made Gabriella slow her steps. It wasn't that she wanted to make Jennifer wait longer on purpose; Gabriella wasn't a child.

She just didn't want to see her right away.

Even if Jennife was a rich family's princess, she shouldn't make things so difficult for others, and be so arrogant.

'I really don't know how the Lawson family raises their heiress.' Gabriella muttered under her breath.

After finally getting a cup of coffee, Gabriella was ready to head back upstairs.

But as soon as she stepped out of the café, she saw a familiar car parked in front of the Apex Holdings Group building.

Gabriella's face instantly turned cold.

Wasn't that Alfred's car?

What was he doing here?

Gabriella was still pondering when she saw Alfred walking towards her.

His eyes were deep, and his expression wasn't good. It was clear he was coming for her.

With nothing to hide behind, Gabriella had no choice but to watch as the distance between them closed.

Alfred's voice was low, his gaze sweeping over the coffee in Gabriella's hand. "Enjoying yourself, huh? Not supervising the project but hanging out here drinking coffee?"

His voice was as cold as ice, and his eyes were terrifyingly cold as he looked at Gabriella. "Didn't I tell you before? You're supposed to oversee the entire project between our companies. It's only been a few days, and you're already passing the work to others?"

Before Gabriella could respond, Alfred continued, "You're really too willful, Gabriella. Don't think I can tolerate you like I used to."

Gabriella's mood was already terrible because of Jennifer's visit.

Seeing Alfred now made her even colder. "Why do I keep running into you everywhere?"

She glanced up at the Apex Holdings Group building. "If I knew there was such a big problem waiting for me at the office, I'd rather see you every day."

Alfred's face turned even colder. What was that supposed to mean?

"What's going on?" he asked.

Finally finding an outlet for her frustration, Gabriella didn't hold back and let out all her grievances. "Isn't it Jennifer who's here to make my life difficult?"

Gabriella placed the coffee in front of him, her tone icy, wishing she could vent all her anger right then and there. "Please, Mr. Barnett, I'm just an ordinary employee. If you have any personal grudges, can't you settle them privately without involving me?"

Alfred finally understood.

He hadn't expected Jennifer to come all the way here, let alone to trouble Gabriella.

Seeing Gabriella's disdainful look, Alfred showed no guilt, only irritation. "She's the one looking for you, not me. Why are you taking it out on me? Besides..."

He suddenly lowered his voice, stepping closer, his tone menacing. "I don't care about your issues."

Despite his words, Alfred took the coffee from Gabriella's hand and headed upstairs without looking back.

Gabriella was stunned for a moment, then quickly followed, puzzled. "What are you doing? Wait for me."

Upstairs in the guest lounge, Jennifer was sitting in a chair, calmly reviewing the documents in her hand. Her expression was hard to read. "How strange, why is it taking so long to get a cup of coffee? Are all your employees this inefficient?"

Though Jennifer was complaining, her attitude was much better than when she was dealing with Gabriella.

Everyone could see she was targeting Gabriella specifically. They could only try to appease her. "Maybe something came up on the way, or the café was crowded. Please wait a little longer."

Jennifer nodded, accepting the explanation.

Just then, a gentle but slightly displeased voice came from the door. "Miss Lawson, do you have other plans? You've been visiting my company quite frequently lately."

Jennifer looked up to see Walter, calm as ever.

Walter had just finished a meeting and was hoping to take a break.

But as soon as he stepped out of the conference room, he heard someone was causing trouble at the company.

It was none other than Miss Lawson, who was supposed to be discussing business with him.

Walter couldn't let his people be constantly harassed, so he came over.

Jennifer instinctively straightened up, but her attitude didn't change much. "I just wanted to clarify some rules and terms so our cooperation can go more smoothly."

Walter could see right through her intentions. But there was no need to confront her directly.

He smiled, "Is that so? If Miss Lawson has any more questions, let's address them all today to save both of us time."

Jennifer was clearly annoyed by Walter's words.

She hadn't expected Gabriella to have such influence, enough to make Walter speak up for her.

But she couldn't show her displeasure openly and had to suppress her bad mood.
