Chapter 192: Recognized

Gabriella gently brushed her hand against Charles's cheek.

Charles seemed to sense Gabriella's kindness. A sweet smile immediately spread across his face.

Charles was indeed adorable, with even a single glance capable of tugging at one's heartstrings.

Gabriella couldn't help but smile tenderly.

After all, he was Alfred's child. How could he not resemble him in some way?

Gabriella tucked a stray lock of hair behind her ear, not letting Charles's appearance sway her thoughts. She remained composed.

As long as Charles was hers, nothing else matters.

As for the slight connection with Alfred... she could disregard it.

The next morning, the warm sunlight bathed everyone, bringing a sense of joy and contentment.

But this good mood didn't last long. The moment Gabriella stepped into the office, she saw a familiar face.

Her previously good mood vanished instantly, replaced by a hint of displeasure from deep within.

Unexpectedly, Jennifer appeared calm and collected. Seeing Gabriella, she walked over with a serene smile on her lips. "Well, Miss Montague, you've certainly changed a lot in the past two years."

Hearing Jennifer's words, Gabriella understood.

It seemed Jennifer was aware of her presence.

Gabriella's voice was calm, and her eyes held a slight smile, but her words carried a hint of sarcasm. "I didn't expect Miss Lawson to forget me so thoroughly. But that's fine, we can get to know each other all over again."

Jennifer wasn't as composed as Gabriella.

The thought of Gabriella daring to appear so boldly in front of her, even speaking with such sarcasm, made Jennifer's mood plummet.

Her eyes seemed to emit a cold chill. "Miss Montague, it seems you've forgotten the grudges between us. I'm not a forgiving person; I can't just let things go."

But Gabriella's gaze remained calm as she looked at Jennifer. She even managed a slight smile. "Miss Lawson, you misunderstand. I never thought you were an easy person to get along with."

Jennifer's face immediately turned cold.

Seeing an enemy, especially a romantic rival, always stired strong emotions.

Remembering how Gabriella once enjoyed resources that should have been hers, all while pretending to be innocent, Jennifer felt a storm of anger rising within her.

Just as Gabriella wondered why Jennifer was in the Apex Holdings Group office, she saw the department manager approaching with a smile. "My apologies, Miss Lawson. I had to attend an early meeting."

Jennifer glanced at him but maintained her calm demeanor. "Nothing,  if you have work to do, go ahead. I'm not picky; I won't cause any trouble."

What a statement.

Anyone who didn't know better might actually think Jennifer was easygoing.

But those who really knew Jennifer understood how fake she was being.

Gabriella pursed her lips. It seemed Jennifer was here to discuss a collaboration.

Since it had nothing to do with her, Gabriella decided not to engage with Jennifer any further.

She turned to leave.

But after just a few steps, Jennifer's voice called out. "Miss Montague, why are you in such a hurry? I still have something to say to you."

Gabriella tried to control her temper. Given that Jennifer was here for work, she remained calm. "Is there something else, Miss Lawson?"

Jennifer's eyes gleamed with a hint of amusement, as if she had thought of something. "I've reviewed the Barnett family and Apex Holdings Group project. It's impressive. But you should know that the Lawson family has a long-term partnership with the Barnett family. In fact, some of the materials you're using come from us."

Jennifer stepped forward, holding documents from her company. "I'm here to discuss a collaboration. We've met a few times, so we're not strangers. I'd like you to handle this."

Gabriella's expression turned colder.

Would Jennifer really be so kind as to hand her a project?

Unless Gabriella was crazy, she wouldn't believe it.

And Jennifer's eyes were indeed filled with malice.

The department manager's smile froze, but he couldn't react in front of Jennifer. He cautiously asked, "Miss Lawson, are you sure you don't need me to introduce you?"

Jennifer nodded, then turned to Gabriella. "Miss Montague hasn't been with your company long, but she must be capable to handle such an important project, right?"

As soon as she finished speaking, Gabriella felt sharp eyes on her.

Jennifer played this beautifully. She openly dumped the task on Gabriella right under the department manager's nose. Claiming this wasn't intentional? Please—even a toddler kid wouldn't buy that. Classic setup to make Gabriella the office pariah.

Despite her frustration, Gabriella suppressed her feelings.

She tried to be polite. "If Miss Lawson insists, then please follow me."

Gabriella gestured for Jennifer to follow and led her to the meeting room.

This was where business discussions took place, showcasing the company's capabilities.

Gabriella had only been here once before but was familiar with the setup.

After Jennifer sat down, Gabriella naturally poured her a cup of tea.

Then she began explaining Apex Holdings Group's situation.

But Jennifer interrupted halfway, her eyes filled with doubt. "I'm familiar with Apex Holdings Group. Otherwise, I wouldn't have chosen your company. Just tell me, what benefits can you offer if we collaborate?"

Gabriella was momentarily stunned by Jennifer's question.

This brief pause seemed to give Jennifer an opportunity to make things difficult for Gabriella.
