Chapter 15: Something undesirable happens

Half an hour ago, a luxury car stopped in front of the entrance, and from inside emerged a man in an elegant suit, Nathan, Esme's best friend. With a friendly smile, he stepped towards the hospital entrance with steady steps.

In the hospital lobby, Esme sat on one of the benches, staring out the window with a pale face. Although the look on her face reflected fatigue, as Nathan approached, Esme turned her head, and a faint smile crossed her face.

"Esme, I'm glad I could come pick you up. How are you?" asked Nathan while giving a caring smile.

Esme nodded weakly, "Still not fully recovered, but I want to go home. Thank you for coming."

Nathan nodded in understanding, "Of course, Esme. I've already paid your hospital bills. I'm also acting as your guardian. I've signed the papers for you from the hospital. Let's go home."

Esme was grateful and thanked Nathan. They left the hospital together, and Nathan opened the car door for Esme. Esme looked at the luxurious car with shining eyes and felt very grateful for Nathan's help.

On the way home, they sat in a quiet atmosphere. Although Esme's face still looked pale due to her recovering condition, Nathan tried to make small talk to distract her.

Nathan looked at Esme with concern. "Esme, what happened to you? Are you hurt badly?"

Esme smiled weakly. "Yes, I was hit by a car yesterday. Quite a lot of blood came out. I still need time to recover, but I want to get out of the hospital."

"Nathan was surprised, "Hit by a car? That was yesterday? Is the driver who hit you responsible?"

Esme shook her head slowly. "No, they ran away. But it doesn't matter, Nathan."

Nathan was full of worry. "I can't bear to see you like this. Come on, I'll take you to my house. You need better care, and I'll get a doctor for you."

Esme refused, "No need, Nathan. I can recover at home by myself."

Nathan decided to take Esme to his house without listening to her refusal. The grand gates opened slowly, revealing a garden filled with beautiful flowers. A bodyguard opened the car door. Nathan led Esme into a luxurious corridor with high ceilings illuminated by elegant chandeliers. A serene atmosphere surrounded her, and the fragrant scent of fresh flowers greeted her.

Esme was mesmerized as she passed through the living room, adorned with luxurious furniture and stunning art. In the corner, a grand piano stood majestically; across from it, large windows provided a beautiful view of the expansive garden.

Before long, a waiter approached the two of them. And said, "I have prepared the guest room."

"Take Esme there! And get Rebecca's doctor immediately!" she ordered.

Esme quickly followed the servant. She still felt dizzy. However, she tried to stay afloat.

Anxiety engulfed Sarah and Marco as they crossed the highway. Marco, trying to calm himself down, let out a long breath. However, trouble was inevitable as his car accidentally hit another vehicle.

"Marco, stop first!" she pleaded, Sarah trying to defuse the situation.

Marco pulled the car over carefully. Suddenly, a woman emerged from the hit car, her face radiating anger.

"Can't you drive properly?" she snapped while looking at the damage to her car. "Now you have to take responsibility and make restitution!"

Sarah tried to intervene, "Sorry, we didn't mean to cause trouble. Let's talk about it and find a solution."

While Marco tried to explain his situation to the angry woman, the atmosphere in the middle of the crowded highway got tense.

"You think my car is cheap? You're crazy!" the woman shouted in a high tone, drawing the attention of the motorists around them.

Marco, already very dizzy from this incident, decided to get out of his car to resolve the conflict correctly, "I apologize for hitting your car. But I'm sure, right now, I'm in a hurry. I promise to compensate you. Can I have your cell phone number? I'll call right away."

"No. You're going to run away. I should have asked for your cell phone number. Do you think I hit your car?" The woman replied in a sarcastic tone.

Marco quickly gave her his cell phone number, trying to calm the situation. Afterwards, irritated, he got back into the car. Sarah suggested, "Marco, we should take a break. I'm sure you're exhausted and unfocused."

After pulling over to the side of the road, Marco tried to absorb the situation. Sarah, who felt the need to distract him, said, "Drink this mineral water, Marco. You look very anxious and tense. It would help if you calmed down. Don't be in a hurry, understand?"

"Weren't you the one who asked me to rush in the first place?" snapped Marco, his frustration audible.

"Marco, originally, I did want to get there quickly, but seeing as you're in this state, it's best to take it slow," Sarah replied understandingly.

"Slowly? What if something bad happens to Laura? Lucian could kill her," Marco said in a worried tone.

"Marco, I'm sorry if I said something wrong..."

"You're not wrong, Sarah. It's my fault. So, leave me alone," Marco said in a heavy voice.

While contemplating, he remembered Esme. So, he tried to contact Esme again. However, her number took a lot of work to reach.

"If Lucian didn't take Esme away, then who did?" Marco thought, feeling increasingly depressed.

After a while, Sarah approached Marco, who was still pondering. "Don't you remember that we have to see your girlfriend and Mr. Lucian?"

Marco nodded, trying to take his mind off the confusion. They continued their journey.

Lucian slowly lowered his weapon, creating an unspoken relief in Laura. The look in Lucian's eyes that had firmness turned into a kinder light, but his smile still brought fear to Laura's heart.

Lucian laughed loudly. Laura felt she was dealing with something much darker than it appeared. A psychopath thought to herself. However, she only nodded when Lucian asked if she was scary.

"By any chance, is he a psychopath? I can be here because of Marco. Watch out until I see his face; I'll beat him," she thought.

But suddenly, an unexpected obstacle appeared amidst the tension between Sarah and Marco. A red traffic light flashed, stopping them in unpredictable darkness.

"Damn! The obstacles keep coming!" cursed Marco in frustration.

Sarah tried to calm Marco down, "Be patient, Marco. We'll get through this."

However, amid the tension, something happened. The traffic light turned green, permitting me to proceed. Marco and Sarah sighed in relief while Lucian looked back at Laura with an intense gaze.

"Your boyfriend is so slow. He's wasting my time. You understand what I'm going to do. Next. Get ready!"

Once again, tension washed over Laura. Her gaze locked on Lucian, who stood before her, weapon pointed straight at her forehead. Sweat poured down her face, soaking her tense forehead. Her heart was racing. With a resigned heart, Laura decided to close her eyes.

"Finally, we've arrived," Marco said.

Marco parked at the spot Lucian had mentioned. Two of Lucian's bodyguards directed Marco and Sarah to enter a disused electronics warehouse. Halfway there, they heard a gunshot. Sarah and Marco looked at each other. They were sure that Lucian had killed Sarah.
