Chapter 91: Jake's Awake
CASSIE'S POV
My eyes flew open as I gasped for air.
I was lying on the floor. A cemented cold floor which felt familiar.
The Great Hall.
I was shrieking and I didn’t even realize it until I heard the sound myself.
"Cassie!"
"Cassie, hey!"
"She’s back, she’s back!"
"Cassie, are you okay?"
I felt different hands on me. Monique’s hands, shaking my shoulders. David’s face, worried and wide eyed. Richie, hovering above me.
I was breathing hard as sweat poured down my face and soaked my shirt. My hair was no longer in a ponytail but it was all damp and messy now.
"Cassie, your skin is burning up," Monique said. "Get water, Richie, Get..."
"I’m okay," I managed to choke out. "I’m okay... I'm... Fine."
David let out a breath like he’d been holding it in for hours. "Thank god. We thought we lost you. You’ve been convulsing for like five minutes."
Five minutes. It felt like hours in that volcano.
I sat up, wiping my mouth with the back of my hand. My whole body was still slightly shaking. "Jake," I said immediately. "Where’s Jake?"
The three of them exchanged a look.
My stomach dropped. "Where is he?"
"Have you forgotten? They're still out there? Didn't you say they were possessed."
Shit. I forgot. Even if he successfully got back into his body, he's still out there. And the Elementals don't know he's back in his body.
I quickly stood from the floor but the world suddenly moved. David caught me before I hit the ground again.
"Whoa, take it easy girl." David held my shoulders for a while.
I relaxed in his arms for more than a moment, catching my breath and my stamina.
Who knew mind walking could take this much energy from me.
"I think you should sit down and rest a little and perhaps tell us what happened?" David suggested.
"No. I have to get out there. Jake... I need to see if Jake's okay now." I said them.
"Can you tell us what happened?" Monique asked.
"I have to see if Jake is okay first." I say.
"I don't know how we'll be able to get pass those students at the door. They're pretty loyal to instructor Ryke." Richie said.
"You know what... If Cassie says she needs to get through then they'll have no choice than to let the Fifth Element through. Come on." David said helping me to the door.
As expected, two of the student bodyguards blocked our way. "Where do you think you're going? No one's allowed to leave the hall till instructor Ryke gives the order." One of them said to us.
"Umm yeah I know all about the lockdown but...you see... Cassie here has an emergency she needs to sort out. Like Right now." David explained.
"I don't care. What ever emergency she has isn't more important than what's going on out there."
"Actually it's just as important." Monique counted.
"How so?"
"I need you to get out of the way. I don't have time to explain myself to you." I said to the students.
My head was still spinning and I didn't have the time to waste on this matter.
"I'm sorry Cassie but..."
"Either get out of my way or I'll make you get out of my way." I say, trying to sound intimidating.
I could easily mind control them to step out of the way if I wanted but something tells me I need to save my strength for other much important things.
The students side eyed one another.
"But what if you get possessed out there too?"
"I have protection. My mind can't be possessed as long as I have this." I brought out the wardstone chain from my neck and showed them. "Principal Bellweather gave me these herself to help ward off the entity." I put it back beneath my shirt. "Now will you open the door and let me through?" I asked them again.
"Fine. But whatever happens to you, we'll not be held responsible."
"Of course not. And I understand." I say and nodded at them.
One of them nodded back and unlocked the door for me.
I made my way out and David wanted to follow. "Hey what are you doing?" I asked him.
"I'm coming with you. Silly. You still can't stand straight." He mentioned.
"Are you kidding, I'm fine. Really I am. Stay here with everyone else. I promise I'll be back in a minute or two." I removed his hands from my shoulder and made my way out of the hall. Alone.
I didn't turn back till I heard the giant door click shut.
Only then did I let out a heavy shaky breath. "Keep breathing Cassie." I muttered to myself and made my way down the hall.
Once I got back to the scene where the windows were completely shattered from the earlier encounter with them, I paused.
I heard a crashing noise and ducked quickly.
The sound came from outside. I went closer to the window and peered.
The Elementals were busy and focused on throwing protective wards around each of the possessed students, who were in turn, shattering the wards over and over again while attacking them with every offense move they could.
I scanned the possessed students and caught sight of one person that was lying down on the fields.
Jake.
He must be unconscious.
My mind raced as to how I'd get close enough to get him away from there before the remaining possessed students catch up with what's going on.
I rested my back on the wall as I thought of what to do.
Air. I need the air to carry this message across to Mr Winchester.
Yes.
That's what I could do at this point.
"Mr Winchester..." I called out even though I wasn't certain he'd heard me.
"Mr Winchester please...if you can hear me... Get Jake out of the field. I think I successfully freed his mind from the Voreth's hold." I whispered into the air.
"Mr Winchester..." I continued to call to him.
After a few more trials, I let out a little breath and peered towards the field again.
Surprisingly, Jake was no longer lying on the ground and Mr Winchester was no longer in sight.
I blinked a few times... Trying to locate where they could be but a voice behind me made me jump in fear.
Shit! I sucked in a deep breath then turned around to see Mr Winchester. He gently lowered Jake beside me.
"I hope you're sure of what you said, child. Because if not, you'll be putting yourself in danger." Mr Winchester said to me.
"You heard me. I can't believe you actually heard me all the way from down there." I say unbelievably.
"I'm surprised at that myself. It must be your mind magic somehow connecting to my air magic. Now nevermind about that and tell me how certain you are of breaking Jake free from the Voreth."
"I went into his mind and helped him find his way to what I'm sure now, was his freedom." I say. "Now I just need him to open his eyes for confirmation."
"Let's hope he opens his eyes soon. I cannot leave him here with you without knowing it's safe and I do need to get back to the field and continue to hold and contain the possessed."
"I know I know." I say and touched Jake's hair.
"Come on Jake... Open your eyes. What are you waiting for?" I say into his ears and closed my eyes.
I suddenly felt a hand on my hair and my eyes widened. "Jake?" I called out.
"Hey... Cassie." Jake said in a coarse voice. "Please tell me this is real and we're no longer in my mind anymore."
I chuckled and couldn't control the tears that prickled down my cheeks. "Yeah. This is real alright." I say to him and kissed his lips, hoping for him to kiss me back.
