Chapter 35: Ruined Wedding

Sophie's Point of View

If anyone had told me there would come a day when I'd be sitting in front of the mirror, staring at my beautiful reflection in a stunning white gown, I wouldn't have believed it, especially as Lucas's bride.

I thought I hated him and wanted nothing to do with him, but little did I know that hate would turn into something special or give me something so precious.

He made me feel like I had found my perfect home, which kept me warm. It is a feeling I wasn't used to, and there's this fear clinging to my chest - the fear of losing it all just when I had discovered this feeling.

A deep part of me did not want the feeling of being home to fade, and I hope nothing makes it go away.

I sucked in a sharp breath, trying to control my emotions. I will just leave everything to fate. If this wedding was meant to happen, then it will definitely happen, and nothing can ever stop it… I hope nothing does.

The sound of the doorknob brought me out of my thoughts. I turned to the entrance as the door swung open, and Lucas stepped in.

He looked handsome as ever, tall and lean. He was wearing a black suit with no tie, two of his shirt buttons undone, and his hair combed roughly.

My heart began racing against my chest. He's the only man capable of making my heart race like this. No one can, except for him.

“You look even more beautiful as my bride,”

His voice was above a whisper, laced with emotion…The emotions I couldn't even explain, but I loved it.

“What are you implying, that I wasn't beautiful before I became your bride?”

I tried to sound annoyed, but I failed terribly as a smile stretched on my lips without my permission.

He chuckled as he walked to me. He extended his hand, and I gently placed my hand in his palm. His touch sent a shiver running down my spine. Man, God knows how crazy my body becomes whenever he is closer, like I've lost control over my whole being to him.

The air was filled with peace and bliss. The two of us swayed to the sounds of only our heartbeats. I never thought dancing to no music was so beautiful, like the silence between us was so calming, and I had no words to describe it.

“You know, I had thought of sending you away from me because I knew once I let you in my life, yours would be ruined, but I guess I couldn't stay away,”

Lucas broke the silence in the room, and all my words got caught in my throat. I don't know what is happening between us, but all I knew was that I loved.

“I promise I will make you the happiest woman on this planet… I know you don't love me, but I do, and I know my love will be enough for the two of us. I'd wait for you to fall in love with me, too.”

Lucas's gaze locked with mine, and right now, I couldn't even describe how fast my heart was beating. For a second, I thought it was going to burst out of my chest.

I don't know what love is, but all I know is I enjoyed the feeling that is rushing through me, and I'd hold onto it throughout this marriage. So what if I didn't love him? He loves me, and he's proven himself by taking that bullet for me.

The sound of someone clapping hands pulled us out of the blissful world we were slipping into.

Both Lucas and I turned to the entrance to see Liam stepping into the room. He had a smug smile on his lips.

“Wow, this is such a beautiful view, two people in love lost in each other's eyes,”

His voice was dripping with disdain, overpowering the smug smirk on his lips.

My insides quivered with dread for some unknown reason. I don't like Liam because I knew he'd ruin this moment for me.

I don't understand what more he wanted from me. Lucas let go of my hand, leaving nothing but emptiness and a cold sensation.

It felt as though I had let go forever, and I'd never feel the warmth of his hand ever again.

“What the heck are you doing here?”

Lucas asked, his jaws clenched with anger flushing on his face.

Liam let out an amused chuckle. “Well, since you two have decided to get married, I thought I should come and ruin this beautiful moment for you.”

I shook my head in disbelief. He wasn't even ashamed of saying he had come here to ruin this moment for me. I don't know what crime I committed in my past life to meet such a parasite like him. He's clearly going to cling to me for the rest of his pathetic life.

“Liam, you are not getting any younger. You are too old for this crap. Get a life for God's sake,”

I spat, my voice dripping with hate. I swear I've never hated anyone as much as I do with him. He was a pain in my neck.

“Before you try to lecture me, did you tell Lucas the truth?”

My brows furrowed. Confused. What was he talking about, and what was I supposed to tell Lucas? A knot formed in my stomach, twisting my guts as the realization set in. How did he know about this? It was supposed to be a secret that no one knew about, then how?

“What are you talking about?” Lucas asked, his confusion evident.

Beads of sweat started forming on my forehead. I hope this isn't what I think it is.

“Your dear Sophie was pregnant with your child, and she decided to abort it without telling you.”

I froze. Right now, I don't think I'm still breathing. Even though my heart had convinced me that I'm still alive, I felt my soul leaving my body.
