Chapter 19: Sisters
"Emma, I wish you happiness. The previous misunderstandings are all in the past now. From now on, what matters is that we are both good daughters to our parents," Zoe said, offering a glass of wine with a calculating glint in her eyes.
Emma didn't take the glass, just staring at her. "When was there a misunderstanding? What scheme are you plotting now?"
Zoe cursed inwardly at Emma's lack of cooperation but maintained a smile on her face. "Actually, we all welcome you back home. Seeing the Anderson family give you such a precious jade bangle, I'm happy too. You're Dad and Mom's biological daughter, so you're family to me. I want us to be good sisters from now on. Let's have a drink and let go of any past unpleasantness, alright?"
The surrounding people were all looking over, eager to witness a reconciliation between the sisters.
Emma glanced at the glass and smirked slightly. "Are you sure you want me to drink it? What if there's something in the drink, can I call the police to arrest you?"
A hint of guilt flashed in Zoe's eyes, but she quickly regained her composure. "Of course you can. There's absolutely nothing wrong with this wine. If you don't believe me, I'll drink it to show you."
She downed the glass she had intended for Emma and then offered the one she had originally planned to drink herself. "There's really no problem. I genuinely want to make amends with you. It was all just a misunderstanding before. The Smith family actually welcomes your return."
Zoe spoke sincerely, and a few wealthy ladies nearby couldn't help but join in persuading Emma. "Just make up already. It's a joyous occasion today, and you're not archenemies. After you get married, it's better to maintain a good relationship with your natal family."
"Zoe has such a good temperament. She'll definitely treat Emma well in the future. There's really no need to be so disrespectful," Kayla couldn't help but interject. "Emma, Zoe has taken the initiative to reconcile with you. Don't embarrass yourself by acting uncivilized,"
Emma replied with a faint smile. "My upbringing is better than yours anyway. Your son ended up in the police station. Isn't it all because of his upbringing?"
The matter of Austin ending up in jail was known to quite a few people in the circle, but it had always been a minor rumor. This was the first time it was openly mentioned, and everyone's attention instantly focused on the Smith family.
Kayla's face changed from blue to red, inwardly cursing Emma, but she had to maintain her composure on the surface. "It's all a misunderstanding, and he'll be out of the station in a few days."
"Oh, another misunderstanding? Another case of the police making a wrong judgment? Fortunately, he didn't have the ability to seduce a rich girl, or there would have been many rich girls at the scene humiliated by his photographs," Emma said without reservation.
A lot of people from wealthy families did extreme things to have fun in private. Emma exposed the disgusting side of Austin in public.
Many rich girls showed disgust, and Kayla's expression became even uglier. She thought, ‘Austin still has to find a rich girl to marry in the future. Why is this wench exposing him here?’
Seeing the situation wasn't good, Zoe quickly redirected the conversation. "Emma, those were all misunderstandings. Austin can be a bit impulsive, and easily misunderstood by others. But he has you in his heart. Let me offer this drink on his behalf too."
She pushed the glass forward again, adopting a peacemaker's stance.
A lady said, "Emma, I think on such a happy day, you should agree. Besides, the Smith family doesn't have any bad people. They're all good people."
Emma immediately looked at the wealthy lady. "Since they're all good people, then I wish your children would end up in the police station just like Austin did."
The wealthy lady suddenly fell silent, her face turned extremely ugly.
Emma mentioned Austin's imprisonment once again, and the expressions of the Smith family couldn't hold up. At this moment, Emma suddenly smiled.
"But, I agree to reconcile with you." She took the glass Zoe had handed over.
Zoe breathed a sigh of relief at Emma's expression. Then Emma handed her another glass. "You drank the one I was supposed to have earlier. Here, have another one. Cheers."
"Alright, alright." Zoe nodded eagerly, fearing that Emma would regret it. She immediately downed her own drink and urged Emma to do the same. "I've finished mine. You have to finish yours too, so we can be good sisters from now on."
Emma looked at her with a smirk, then proceeded to drink all the wine in one go.
Zoe continued chatting with Emma for a while, although Emma didn't respond much, the atmosphere remained relatively harmonious.
Seeing this scene, Kayla's anger subsided slightly, nodding in satisfaction. "From now on, you two are good sisters. Don't play any tricks again."
She glanced at Emma, still with a hint of disdain in her eyes. Then she looked at Zoe, only to see her face turning very red.
"Zoe, are you drunk?" Kayla asked, concerned.
"I'm not drunk, I'm just feeling very hot," Zoe replied, cheeks flushed, unconsciously pulling at her dress.
Her neckline wasn't low, but with her forceful tug, she exposed a significant portion of her chest, and everyone could vaguely hear the sound of fabric tearing.
The men present couldn't help but glance over.
"Zoe, what are you doing?!" Kayla exclaimed, rushing forward to grab her collar, fearing that Zoe's clothes might fall off completely.
Zoe pushed Kayla away impatiently. "Mom, let go of me, I'm so hot, I need to take off my clothes..."
As she spoke, she continued to tug at her collar. Kayla couldn't match her strength and was pushed to the ground. Joey had to come forward to pull her clothes back up, but Zoe held onto him tightly."Dad, I'm so hot..."
The people present gasped in shock at the scene.
