Chapter 46
MARISSA’S POV
As I sat in the council meeting, I couldn’t help but feel the weight of the stares around me. This was my first time attending such an important gathering, and I knew I had to prove myself.
Raul’s reassuring presence beside me gave me strength and reduced the uncomfortable feeling I felt. I could see that the room was filled with the pack’s most respected elders and warriors.
I could see Raul’s mother giving me the I don't like you look but I looked away refusing to let her intimidate me.
The meeting soon started with Zara, one of the pack's best trackers, standing up to give her report. Liam and Evelyn, two other trackers, flanked her, ready to provide additional details.
You might be wondering how I knew them but Raul gave me a briefing before we reached the council meeting chamber.
“We have located the ammunition,” Zara began, her voice steady and professional. “It’s being stored in a heavily guarded warehouse on the outskirts of the Silvermoon territory. They have at least two dozen guards patrolling the perimeter at all times, and the place is rigged with alarms.”
Liam stepped forward, adding, “We also found several smaller caches in nearby buildings. They seem to be spreading out their supplies to make it harder for us to target everything at once.”
Evelyn nodded. “And we discovered something even more troubling. They are developing new technology—wolfsbane-laced weapons. These weapons are designed not only to harm but to incapacitate werewolves, making them vulnerable to further attacks.”
The room filled with murmurs of concern, the severity of the situation sinking in. I felt a chill run down my spine. Wolfsbane was deadly enough on its own, but in weapons? This could be catastrophic.
As I listened, a vision suddenly overtook me. I saw a large, heavily fortified facility hidden deep within a forest. It looked like the true center of the operations Zara and her friend just talked about, and it looked far more significant than the locations Zara and her team had just talked about.
I struggled to maintain my composure as the vision faded, trying to focus on the discussion around me. I knew I needed to let Raul know but wondered how I could relay it without telling him I saw a vision about it.
Just when my thoughts were clouded on how I would relay to Raul, he turned to me, his expression serious. “Marissa, what do you think?”
I took a deep breath, thinking of the best way to relay my words.
“With all due respect to Zara and her team, I believe the locations they found are just a means of distraction. There is a bigger place where everything takes place, a central facility that’s heavily fortified and hidden deep within a forest,” I let out, hoping I didn't sound suspicious.
The room erupted into whispers, the elders exchanging doubtful glances. Raul raised his hand to silence them. “Let her speak.”
I continued, choosing my words carefully. “Based on the patterns and the way they’re spreading out their supplies, it makes sense that they would have a main hub where the majority of their operations are conducted. They’re using the other locations as decoys to throw us off their trail.”
Elder Santos leaned forward, his expression skeptical. “Why should we trust your words over the findings of our experienced trackers?”
I met his gaze steadily. “I understand your skepticism, Elder. But trust me this once, and I promise I won’t disappoint you. We need to consider every possibility to ensure the safety of not only our pack but the whole werewolves.”
Raul remained silent for a moment, his eyes thoughtful. Then he spoke, his voice firm. “I will send two teams out—one with Zara and the other with Marissa. We will cover both possibilities to ensure we don’t miss anything.”
Elder Morales looked alarmed. “Why take such a risk, Alpha? Our resources are already stretched thin.”
Raul met his gaze unwaveringly. “I know what I’m doing, Elder Morales. This is the best way to ensure we cover all our bases. We can’t afford to overlook any potential threat.”
“Each team will have five days to gather results and report back,” Raul declared, looking away from Elder Morales.
The elders exchanged glances but nodded in agreement, trusting Raul’s judgment. The meeting was adjourned, and we began to make our way out.
As we left the council room, Raul pulled me aside. “Marissa, are you sure about this? Your insight is invaluable, but I need to know if you’re certain.”
I nodded, feeling the weight of my responsibility. “I am, Raul. I know it sounds risky, but I have a strong feeling about this.”
He squeezed my hand reassuringly. “I trust you. We’ll make sure both teams are fully prepared. We’ll get through this together.”
We spent the rest of the day planning the mission. Raul assigned the best warriors to each team, ensuring they were well-equipped and ready for anything. As we prepared, I couldn’t shake the image of the fortified facility from my mind.
It was a gamble, because I still haven't fully understood the vision thing yet but it was one we had to take to protect our pack.
The next morning, as we gathered to set off, Raul gave a final briefing. “Stay sharp and watch each other’s backs. We’re counting on both teams to bring back crucial information. Good luck.”
I gave Raul one last look before I joined my team, feeling a mix of determination and anxiety. I knew Raul didn't want to look biased since I was his mate that is why he didn't see me off and I liked that.
Raul’s faith in me was a powerful motivator, and I was determined not to let him down. As we moved out, I silently vowed to do everything in my power to ensure our mission’s success.
As we headed into the forest, I felt a renewed sense of purpose. This was my chance to prove myself, not just to the pack but to myself as well. With Raul’s support and the strength of my team, I knew we could uncover the truth and protect our home from this growing threat.
