I looked at the forest. Hundreds of wolves kept emerging out of the forest, all baring their canines, ready to tear anyone from limb to limb, at whoever would try to stop them on their path of destruction. I didn't give a flying fuck about them.
The only person I was concerned about was my mate, my other half. I scanned through all of them, but I could not find him. Everything was still. Nobody dared to make a move from either side. Who could have that courage to attack us? My father is the most feared alpha, and he already had good relations with other packs. We meant no harm to anybody. Unlike others, my father is not some power-hungry psychopath who attacked other packs to expand their territory.
Then all of a sudden, out of the blue, one man, only in his birth suit, emerged from the wolves and walked towards my father. Being werewolves, nudity was not an issue, but seeing a total stranger butt-naked was something that brought blood to my cheeks. And no doubt he was handsome.
He was calm and composed, just like the storm. Confidence filled in his eyes, and when his eyes met mine, I saw his lips twitch. On the other hand, my father was ready to go all ballistic on this handsome stranger. I knew he was not an alpha, but still from the higher rank, maybe beta or gamma.
"Alpha Rockwood, I am Asher of Black Fortune pack," he said in a stone voice and bowed slightly in respect.
"The alpha needs you to come outside. Otherwise, I doubt the consequences will be any good for you," Asher said, eyeing the pups.
My father face got worse, if possible. He balled up his fists and started following the stranger, alongside my brother, and soon vanished into the forest. I again looked through the wolves but couldn't find my mate.
I quickly went to the packhouse. I don't know why, but I had a bad feeling about this. Our pack was attacked by so many wolves when we were going to decide the future alpha. Nobody dared to challenge the new alpha because firstly, the new alpha will be way stronger than the previous one, and secondly, it's stupid. So, the person who attacked us must be so stupid to think that he would easily overpower us unless he had some hidden motive.
I balled up my fists; my blood was already boiling with rage and anger. Two things I only lived for, two fucking things I loved the most—my mate and the alpha title. And now, my mate is probably from the rival pack. And as for the alpha title, it was not going to happen soon until this whole thing cooled off.
I really wanted to follow my father, but I had to think with my brain at this moment. I quickly held the basement door open and told the women and kids not to open it under any circumstances. I called the other alphas to inquire who attacked us. I was not afraid of any one of them. They were already weak, both in number and power.
"Okay, thank you. I will be in contact with you for further information." With that, I was a hundred and ten percent sure we were attacked from the south side. But there is only one pack on the south side and...
Realization dawned upon me; I quickly opened the front door only to witness the chaos. It wasn't the type of chaos where you encounter dead bodies or wolves fighting but the opposite. Complete silence. Like the silence before the storm. I quickly ran in the direction where I had seen my father last time. I ran as if my dear life depended on it. After running for god knows what time, I found myself hearing the howling of wolves coming from the middle of the forest. I quickened my pace and headed in the same direction.
Encountering the site and me being purely shocked would be the statement of the century. Hundreds of wolves, both of our packs, were howling and circling; sensing me, they growled. I let my wolf surface, letting them know who I am. They unwillingly submitted and stepped back. Nobody dared to fight with an alpha. Walking further, I saw people gathered in a ring circle cheering and howling, just like the battleground a few minutes ago.
I pushed past the people and saw the most horrific scene in front of my eyes. My father was in his wolf form, the most feared alpha of the continent, and was struggling to stand on his four legs. The alpha of the Blue Moon pack on his knees, waiting for the man in front of him to make his next move.
Fucking impossible. The man, not the wolf. How can this be possible. I couldn’t believe it. His wolf was covered in blood. He was badly beaten up. The bruises said it all, and the top of that, the whole pack was watching their alpha being humiliated. That's the worst punishment for any alpha. Suddenly the man bent down and said something in my father's ear, his back facing me. In an instant, he held his neck and made him stand up. When he was about to deliver his final blow, something took over me.
"Stop."
The next moment, all of the people were looking in my direction.
The man holding my father's neck in a death hold suddenly tensed. He was taller than all of the people I have ever seen and extremely muscular.
Oh hell, what was happening to me? Instead of breaking some of his teeth, I was shamelessly drooling over this stranger who was probably going to kill my father.
All were staring in my direction with pity, the emotion I was still not familiar with. I ran to the one person who was responsible for all this shit.
"Who the fucking hell do you think you are?” Alpha or not, nobody can lay a hand on my family and still survive.
He turned towards me, his muscles flexing with every move he made, and the instant his blue ocean eyes met my hazel ones, the world stopped. Suddenly, all the rage I gathered evaporated. The familiar scent of strawberries and cardamom, which was suppressed by my other emotions, again hit my nostrils, and I forgot to breathe. My wolf howled with joy.
The reality hit me with nothing but past time. The person I think will cherish me, and I will love the most. My mate. Was none other than the devil himself. His blue eyes were so captivating I couldn’t look anywhere else. His eyes softened for a split second but were gone in another. He closed his eyes and rubbed his hands through his hair, my hands aching to do the same. His looks were so mesmerizing. I forgot what my next move was. I hugged my father and helped him to stand. His injuries were already healing, thanks to the alpha blood. He spat blood on the ground and cursed under his breath. I tried to compose myself before looking in his direction again.
I looked back at him to see him already watching me intensely. His eyes were the most beautiful contrast I have ever seen, ocean blue with green specks at the surface. I shamelessly drooled over him until I realized I was too late. I lowered my gaze to his chest only to witness a tattoo, a tattoo of a dragon forging from the fire. On the other side, just where the heart resides, was written Selene in bold capital letters.
I looked away, feeling a pang of jealousy from a stranger. All the wolves were bowing in front of us, not before us, but...
Fuck me. He was the alpha of the Black Claw pack. The ruthless, most feared, self-claimed wolf prince, Alpha Reed Xander.
As if reading my thoughts, he smirked, but his eyes darkened even more if it was even possible.
I was not getting a good feeling about this.
