Chapter 259
When Lila heard Arabella's question, her expression changed slightly.
Although it was phrased as a question, words like "humble origins" sounded rather impolite.
Lila looked toward Alexander.
He frowned and glanced at Arabella, his tone cold as he shot back, "What did you say?"
Perhaps seeing Alexander's displeasure, Arabella smiled apologetically, "I was just asking casually, don't be so serious, brother."
He withdrew his gaze and walked toward his desk without a word.
Arabella followed behind him, tilting her head tentatively, "By the way, I never had a chance to ask you - didn't you used to like Celeste? But now you have a sister-in-law. What if Celeste comes back? Would you and sister-in-law get divor..."
Before she could finish, Alexander suddenly turned around, his cold, sharp eyes landing on her face, scaring her into immediate silence.
Arabella bit her lip, "Brother, I was just asking casually, don't be angry."
"Don't pry into things that aren't your business." Alexander's face was stern.
She quickly nodded.
Arabella had always been afraid of her cousin. If she hadn't been asked by someone today, she would never dare to question him so openly. Now his single look made her want to leave immediately.
After a brief moment of silence and thought, she turned to look at Lila.
Arabella smiled and linked arms with her warmly.
Lila felt uncomfortable with such familiarity and pulled her arm away.
Arabella tilted her head inquiringly, "Sister-in-law, you and my brother have been married for almost a month now, right? Are you planning to have children?"
"Arabella!" Almost as soon as she finished speaking, Alexander's sharp, cold voice rang out in warning.
Arabella shuddered all over, looking at him fearfully, "Brother, what's wrong?"
Alexander said coldly, "Get out of here right now!"
Arabella pressed her lips together. Though his coldness unsettled her, she didn't dare disobey and spoke weakly, "Well, the dance studio should be open by now, so I'll leave first. Goodbye, brother."
With that, she didn't even glance at Lila and left quickly.
The office door opened and closed —Arabella was gone.
After the office door closed, Lila glanced at Alexander and turned to walk toward her driver's lounge.
"Stop!"
His voice rang out behind her.
She turned around, looking at him expressionlessly, "What?"
Alexander stood behind his desk, his gaze on her five meters away, not speaking immediately.
His eyes were deep, as if pondering.
Seeing him call out to her but not speak, Lila chuckled, "Boss, when did you start thinking before talking? Hiding a secret? Thinking of confessing?"
Alexander's eyes flickered slightly.
A secret?
The deal he made with Grandma - getting her pregnant in exchange for Celeste's return - that counted as one.
Alexander gathered his thoughts and walked toward her step by step. He stood in front of her, looking down with a slight smile, "I wanted to ask you - what do you think about keeping our marriage secret? Do you feel wronged?"
"Not wronged at all."
"Really?"
Lila nodded, naturally and casually humming in agreement, "We're getting divorced after a year anyway. Keeping it secret is actually good. When we divorce later, people won't know I was married, so I won't have to deal with everyone asking why I got divorced. For me, keeping it secret is a good thing."
She didn't mind keeping the marriage secret - he should have been happy about that.
But watching her matter-of-factly mention "divorce," an inexplicable anger surged through Alexander's chest.
