Chapter 206

Two people came, but three people left.

Emily had driven here. Since they ran into each other, and with Victoria having mobility issues, they had to say something.

"Let me give you a ride." Emily felt a bit of sympathy for Victoria.

"No need to trouble yourself, I can easily call a car." Victoria refused others' kindness as always.

Emily glanced at Sophie.

Sophie had an indescribable feeling about Victoria.

Her leg was disabled, she had so many injuries on her body - what exactly had she been through?

Did Matthew know about her injuries?

Just as she thought of this, Victoria called out to Sophie, "Sophie, what you saw just now, please don't tell Matthew. Okay?"

There was a hint of pleading in her eyes.

Sophie nodded.

"Thank you."

Since Victoria didn't want to go with them, they didn't insist.

After getting in the car, Emily asked, "What did you see?"

Sophie shook her head.

"Alright, I won't ask. But I feel like she has quite a few secrets. And she seems really afraid of Matthew finding out about her situation."

Sophie was thinking, if Matthew knew about those injuries on her body, how would he react?

He would definitely feel heartbroken.

If she hadn't become Matthew's wife, Matthew would probably take good care of Victoria, and Victoria wouldn't be so afraid of Matthew finding out.

"What are you thinking about so intently?" Emily stared at her. "You've been distracted all day."

"Have I?" Sophie smiled. "It's nothing."

Emily frowned. "You've changed."

"How have I changed?" Sophie smiled helplessly and looked herself over. "I'm still the same."

"You're keeping secrets from me now."

Sophie scratched her forehead. "What do you want to eat? My treat."

"Hmph, you are keeping secrets."

Emily spent the whole ride accusing Sophie of growing distant from her, while Sophie spent the whole ride trying to appease her.

It wasn't until Matthew called Sophie that the two of them finally quieted down.

Matthew's tone wasn't very good, so Sophie didn't take Emily out to eat and went home first.

As soon as she entered, she saw Matthew standing by the balcony.

Hearing her return, Matthew turned around, hands in his pockets, his handsome face cold.

Sophie didn't know what he meant by this.

"My mother gave you a check."

Sophie hadn't expected him to ask about this.

"Yes."

"You took it."

"Yes."

"What do you mean by this?"

"Taking it means I'm agreeing to divorce you."

Matthew's dark pupils contracted slightly. Her calm tone and indifferent expression were both telling him she didn't want to be with him anymore.

"A mere thirty million, and you agreed?" Matthew sneered. "You really can't do math."

Sophie sat down. "With the money, I can do whatever I want by myself. What's wrong with that?"

"What do you want to do?" Matthew narrowed his eyes.

Sophie didn't avoid his direct gaze and smiled slightly. "That's my business."

"Haven't I been good to you?" Matthew's fists in his pockets were clenched tight. He didn't know what was going on in this woman's head.

"Yes," Sophie admitted this point. "But what I want isn't just 'good.'"

"What do you want?"

"Love." Sophie asked him, "Do you love me?"

Matthew's eyes flickered. "Isn't treating you well enough? Doesn't love eventually become ordinary anyway?"

"I know, but I just want you to love me." Sophie didn't even blink. "Matthew, let's get divorced. I'm serious."

Matthew clenched his jaw. He couldn't see any reluctance or attachment in her eyes.

To her, marriage was like child's play - she could do whatever she wanted.

Things had been fine before, and now suddenly she was like this again.

Were all women this fickle?

"Fine, if you want a divorce, then let's divorce."

Sophie's face stiffened. She nodded. "Tomorrow?"

"Tomorrow it is." Matthew was furious. He was too lazy to even look at her now. He walked to the door, opened it, and slammed it shut without even changing his shoes.

Sophie let out a heavy breath.

Finally, he agreed.

Getting up, she went back to the bedroom to pack her things.

She had already taken most of her stuff back before, so there wasn't much left.

She also packed some daily necessities she used. This time, she really wouldn't be coming back.

After packing, she moved her things downstairs and put them by the roadside to call a cab.

Emily ran out from the residential complex and grabbed Sophie's hand.

"What are you doing?" Emily was panting, almost out of breath.

Sophie's phone nearly got knocked to the ground. She held it tight and turned to look at Emily. "Why are you here?"

"Matthew said you want to divorce him." Emily took several breaths before she recovered. Looking at the stuff on the ground, she frowned. "I knew something was off about you today. Why do you want to divorce again?"

"Matthew went to your place?"

"Yeah." Emily had been taking a shower, but when she heard Matthew say this, she rushed right out.

Sophie pursed her lips. "How does he have the nerve to say that?"

"No, you two haven't had any conflict, so why divorce again? That person hasn't been bothering you either, has she?" Emily didn't understand.

Before, when Bella was causing so much trouble, they didn't divorce. Now, Victoria was back but keeping to herself, yet they wanted to divorce instead?

Sophie said, "His mother wants us to divorce."

"Don't listen to his mother. If you don't divorce, what can she do to you?" Emily just didn't get it.

"Emily, actually, it's not just his mother." Sophie looked at Emily. "Matthew and I will divorce sooner or later."

"He doesn't want to divorce you - it's you." Emily frowned. "I think we're both really strange. You can lecture me so well, and I can lecture you just as well, but when it comes to ourselves, we just get stuck in our own heads."

Emily didn't understand. "You've said that marriage is between two people. Matthew wants to save your marriage, so why won't you?"

"You don't understand."

"I don't understand, that's why I'm asking you." Emily looked at her anxiously. "So tell me, why do you want to divorce?"

Sophie bit her lip and forced a smile.

"Don't smile at me!" Emily got angry. "Be serious."

"I don't want to be with Matthew anymore." Sophie stopped smiling, very serious, very solemn.

Emily frowned. "Really?"

"Yeah. Actually, since Victoria came back, I've felt really uneasy. She hasn't interfered with Matthew and me; she's much better than Bella, but there's just this feeling I can't describe. While everything isn't too bad yet, I want to end this relationship first."

Sophie was very serious.

Hearing this, Emily didn't know what to say.

"I can tell Matthew doesn't want to. He's such a proud person, yet he came to our house to tell Joshua about your wanting a divorce. You don't know how helpless he sounded when he talked about you."

"He must have had no other choice before coming to us."

"Can you really let go?"
