Chapter 49
Jeremy covered Nikki a blanket and stepped outside the building. He spotted Mandy walk into an RV and he followed her inside.
"How's she now?" Mandy asked.
"A bit better now." Jeremy sat on a bed. "Verona has checked her. She should be awake by dawn."
Mandy shook her head trying to process the whole thing.
"I can't believe that witch, Nuri," she said. "Nikki? A little girl of all people?"
"Well, now nothing should surprise us anymore," Jeremy sighed,r ubbing the back of his neck. "We've now seen how far and how deep she's willing to dig in order to disorient us. That is just a reminder. And I think that should serve as a driving factor for us. We shouldn't hold back tomorrow. No slacking. No iota of pity. By tomorrow, I want Dominic's existence to become a myth."
Mandy stared at him for a while without a word.
"How were you able to break Nuri's spell on Nikki?" she asked.
"Instinct," Jeremy replied.
Mandy raised an eyebrow, an indicator that more explanation was needed.
"It's kind of hard to explain properly," Jeremy continued on seeing her expression. "It's like I somehow felt Nikki's consciousness from beyond Nuri's possession. I could hear her crying from within. It was like the cry of someone who was held prisoner. Well, so to speak. And I had to reach out and drag her out."
Mandy chuckled softly with another shake of her head and pushed herself away from the door towards him. She sat on his laps, straddling him as she stared deeply into his eyes.
"You're really something, you know that?" She traced a finger along his cheek. "Something special. One of a kind."
"Don't I know it." He grinned at her, wrapping his hands around her waist.
They leaned their faces forward when there was the sound of someone clearing his throat, startling them. They turned their surprised gazes to the door where the Beta stood. The couple blushed as the Beta gave them an awkward gaze and turn his face towards the exit.
"Alpha Ronald would like to speak to you,Jeremy," he coughed and made his way out.
Jeremy sighed as Mandy got off his lap. There was a pout on her face.
"It's almost like the universe is always against us having a special moment," she said.
"Don't be like that, babe," Jeremy chuckled. "A day will come when even the universe won't get in the way."
He pecked her swiftly on the lips and made his way out. A few minutes later Mandy stepped out of the R.V.
However, a frown appeared on her face as she spotted Selena walking towards her. She inwardly groaned as she wasn't ready for any confrontation. It was bad enough her special time earlier was ruined.
"What do you want?" She glared as Selena stopped in front of her.
"I just want to call a truce," Selena said.
Mandy noted the absence of the usually challenging look from the girl's face and raised her brows.
"I've seen how the chosen one looks at you," Selena continued, a gentle smile on her face. "It's the look of someone who was a treasure by his side always. I've heard of the mate bond between werewolves and witnessed some myself, but the one between you two is something special. Something I've never seen before. And it looks like one that will never be broken by anything for life. It's just terrible it took me this long to realize it."
"Wow." Mandy blushed. "Thanks. Wow, this really means a lot. Coming from you. I really appreciate it. I pray you'll also find your mate sooner or later."
"Well, so far it's looking like later, amigo," Selena chuckled with a blush.
"So, truce?" She stretched out her hand.
"Truce." Mandy smiled accepting her hand.
The two girl's stared upwards at the moon in silence. Tomorrow night was D-day. The day of the final war.
"So what next?" Mandy asked.
"We kick some vampire asses," Selena replied with a grin.
