Chapter 97: The Traitor Within

The Unexpected Proposal

Three days later, Ethan received an invitation. A gala. Hosted by Magnus Caldwell.

Alea frowned as she read the invitation. “This is a power play.”

Ethan smirked. “Then let’s show him who has the real power.”

That night, Ethan and Alea arrived at the extravagant event, dressed to dominate. Alea wore a sleek, black gown that turned heads, while Ethan’s tailored suit radiated authority.

Magnus greeted them with a knowing smile. “Ethan. Alea. Glad you could make it.”

Ethan met his gaze, unflinching. “Let’s not pretend this is a social visit.”

Magnus chuckled. “You’re right. Let’s talk.”

He led them to a private lounge. The tension was thick.

Magnus poured himself a drink, then turned to Ethan. “You’re relentless. I respect that.”

Ethan crossed his arms. “Get to the point.”

Magnus’s eyes gleamed. “You don’t want an alliance. Fine. Then name your price to walk away.”

Alea stiffened. “You think we’re for sale?”

Magnus smirked. “Everything has a price.”

Ethan’s expression was unreadable. Then, he leaned forward. “Here’s mine: Orion Industries. Every last piece of it.”

Magnus chuckled, shaking his head. “I like you, Ethan. But you’re not invincible.”

Ethan’s voice was like steel. “Neither are you.”

The meeting ended with no deal. The war would continue.

A New Betrayal

Two days later, Ethan received a call from Andra.

“You need to see this,” she said.

He arrived at Watson Group’s headquarters to find Alea and Andra in a meeting room, staring at a security report.

Alea’s voice was cold. “We have a leak.”

Ethan’s eyes narrowed. “Who?”

Andra hesitated, then flipped open a file. Inside were surveillance images. A Watson Group executive—meeting with Magnus Caldwell.

Ethan’s blood ran cold.

Alea clenched her fists. “One of our own is working for him.”

Ethan exhaled slowly. Magnus had infiltrated Watson Group.

And this battle was far from over.

The Revelation

Ethan stood in the dimly lit conference room, staring at the grainy surveillance images spread across the table. The betrayal was undeniable. One of his own had been meeting with Magnus Caldwell.

Alea’s voice was tight with fury. “We should have seen this coming.”

Andra crossed her arms. “We still don’t know how much damage has been done.”

Ethan clenched his jaw, his mind racing through possibilities. Who was the traitor? How much had they given away?

He exhaled, voice sharp. “We find out. Immediately.”

The Investigation Begins

The next morning, Ethan called for a full internal audit. Security logs, communications, financial records—everything would be reviewed.

Alea and Andra worked tirelessly, scrutinizing every lead. By noon, a name surfaced.

Ryan Holloway.

A mid-level executive in Watson Group’s financial division. Trustworthy. Loyal. At least, that’s what they had believed.

Andra set down the file. “Ryan has been meeting Magnus’s people for weeks. We traced unauthorized access to internal reports—financial projections, upcoming mergers.”

Ethan’s expression was stone. “How much damage?”

Alea’s voice was sharp. “Enough to hurt us if we don’t act fast.”

Ethan’s fist clenched. Betrayal was something he never forgave.

The Confrontation

That evening, Ethan summoned Ryan to his office. The man entered, his expression nervous but composed.

Ethan leaned back in his chair, hands folded. “Tell me, Ryan, how long have you been working for Magnus?”

Ryan froze. “I—I don’t know what you’re talking about.”

Alea slid a folder across the table. “Then maybe these security logs will refresh your memory.”

Ryan’s face paled as he scanned the documents. He swallowed hard. “I didn’t—It’s not what it looks like.”

Ethan’s voice was ice. “Then explain.”

Ryan hesitated, his breathing shallow. “Magnus approached me months ago. He—he offered money. A lot of it. I thought…I thought it was harmless. Just basic information. I never meant to—”

Ethan slammed his fist on the desk. “You sold us out. You gave Magnus ammunition to attack Watson Group.”

Ryan’s hands shook. “Please, I—”

Ethan stood, his gaze burning into Ryan. “You have two choices. Resign quietly, or I bury you.”

Ryan’s face crumbled. He knew there was no way out.

“I’ll resign,” he whispered.

Ethan’s lips curled into a cold smirk. “Good. Now get out.”

Magnus’s Next Move

But Ethan knew this was just the beginning. Magnus had already infiltrated Watson Group once—and he wouldn’t stop there.

Late that night, Andra walked into Ethan’s office with fresh intel.

“Magnus is moving fast,” she said. “He’s targeting key shareholders, trying to sway them against us.”

Alea folded her arms. “If he succeeds, he could force a vote to challenge your leadership.”

Ethan exhaled sharply. Magnus wasn’t just playing dirty—he was going for the throne.

And he had just one message for him.

Game on.

A Boardroom on Fire

Ethan entered the Watson Group boardroom, his presence commanding. The air was thick with tension—Magnus had been making moves behind the scenes, and now, some of the board members were questioning Ethan’s leadership.

As Ethan took his seat at the head of the long mahogany table, the whispers stopped. The men and women around him were powerful investors, each holding influence over Watson Group’s future.

Magnus’s voice rang out from the other end of the table, smooth and calculated. “Ethan, I believe it’s time we discuss the company’s future. Some of us are concerned.”

Ethan’s gaze was cold. “Concerned?”

One of the older board members, Richard Caldwell—Magnus’s uncle—cleared his throat. “The company has faced multiple crises in recent months. The scandal with Diana, the hostile attacks on our subsidiaries… Some believe fresh leadership may be needed.”

Alea’s fists clenched under the table. They were playing their hand.

Ethan smirked, leaning forward. “Let me make this clear. Watson Group has been under attack because we are a threat. My leadership has kept this company from crumbling under the weight of that pressure.”

Magnus chuckled. “Ethan, no one is questioning your ability. But shareholders want stability. Perhaps a leadership restructuring would ease their worries.”

Ethan met Magnus’s gaze, unflinching. “Cut to the chase, Magnus. You want my seat.”

Magnus smiled. “Not just me. There are others who believe Watson Group should be led by someone more… reliable.”

Ethan’s eyes flicked across the table. He could see it—the hesitation in some of the board members, the ones Magnus had been influencing.

But Ethan was prepared.

He placed a file on the table and slid it forward. “Before anyone considers a vote of no confidence, I suggest you all take a look at the real reason Watson Group has been under fire.”

Alea pressed a button on a remote, and a screen lit up behind Ethan. A series of documents and surveillance images appeared—proof that Magnus had been orchestrating attacks against Watson Group from the shadows.
