Chapter 198

Chapter 198

The Johnson family's oldest grandson celebration bash.

All the high society folks were there, dressed to impress.

Sophia was chilling on the couch, ready to bounce, when she got a text from Flora.

Bright and early, The Johnson Estate was decked out in festive decor, with a lively vibe all around.

Sophia squeezed her hand under her sleeve, then let go, setting her phone down.

"Let's bounce."

The two of them were twinning in their outfits today.

William was rocking a custom-made purple suit, while Sophia was flaunting a purple fishtail skirt with a long train blinged out with diamonds.

As they strolled, they glimmered and shined, catching everyone's gaze.

Hand in hand, they hopped into the car.

The car zoomed off, the scenery outside whizzing by.

Sophia glanced up at the ads plastered everywhere about the celebration bash.

She shot William a surprised look. "Did Grandma set all this up?"

"I did. My boy deserves the best," William boasted, eyeing the photos on the billboards, lifting his chin proudly. "The pics turned out amazing, snapped by a top-notch designer."

It had been a month since Safe was born.

Despite being premature, under Amelia's attentive care, Safe was as fragile as a jade bracelet.

With big eyes, smooth skin, and a tiny tongue poking out to blow bubbles, he melted everyone's hearts.

Sophia stole a glance at him, then looked away. "Will there be a lot of people at the shindig today?"

"For sure, it's going live today, and tons of reporters are on the guest list."

The celebration bash was on a grand scale.

It felt like the whole world was in the loop about Safe's arrival.

Sophia fluttered her eyelashes, clenched her fists, shut her eyes, and murmured softly, "What's been keeping you busy lately?"

"Been swamped with company stuff, you know," William replied hastily, gazing at the scenery outside and squeezing Sophia's hand, pointing eagerly, "Check it out, there's a video of the baby getting a bath, chubby arms, and legs..."

"I'm already in the loop," Sophia cut in.

Seeming to reach a decision, Sophia's voice grew stronger.

A heavy silence filled the car.

William scrunched his brows. "What are you getting at?"

"I'm aware of my health situation."

"Pull over."

Before Sophia could finish, William's icy tone sliced through.

The driver up front felt a shiver down his spine and slammed on the brakes.

The car screeched to a stop, leaving a mark on the road.

"Step out."

The driver opened the door and swiftly exited.

As the door shut, the temperature inside the car plummeted.

William cocked his head. "And then?"

Their gazes locked.

Tears welled up in Sophia's eyes, and she said, "I know I can't meet your needs anymore, so in the future..."

Her voice trailed off, unable to continue.

She shut her eyes, tears brimming.

William gripped Sophia's chin firmly, adding more pressure.

Sophia winced, gently holding his wrist. "And I saw pics of you with other women, lots of gorgeous women, their clothes vanishing as they danced provocatively."

"I have no ties to those women, and as for your health..."

William added more pressure, his thin lips meeting hers.

Their lips melded, breaths mingling.

William's kiss was intense, fervently drawing the air from Sophia's lungs.

Lost in the kiss, Sophia's head spun, her breath dwindling. Just as she felt suffocated, William let go.

"Don't let your mind wander. I'll find top experts to treat you."

"And if there's no cure?" Sophia persisted. "What's our future hold?"

The car lapsed into silence once more.

Meanwhile, William's car was stranded in the middle of the road, causing a long line of cars to pile up behind it.

Horns blared incessantly.

The door of the car behind swung open, and a hefty man dashed over, pounding on the door.

"You're cruising for a bruising."

William forcefully shoved the door open, sending the man sprawling.

"Dare to lay a hand on me." The man on the ground rolled a few times, then attempted to rise, ready to unleash a string of curses.

But when he caught sight of William stepping out of the car, he quivered in fear. "Mr. Johnson, I'm sorry, I didn't know it was you. I came here today specifically for your son's celebration banquet..."

Before he could finish, William kicked him.

Kick after kick.

He seemed hell-bent on taking the man down.

Seeing the situation escalate, Sophia hurriedly exited the car, seizing William's arm. "That's enough, no more fighting. Today is Safe's celebration banquet."

No need for violence.

William's eyes blazed. "You still remember it's Safe's celebration banquet."

William pulled Sophia back into the car.

This time, they didn't settle in the back but in the driver's and passenger's seats.

"Spill it all. What's on your mind?"

"If I didn't love you, I could tough it out, but I love you deeply. I'm not worried about you being with other women, but my body can't handle it. Let's call it quits."

An eerie silence enveloped the car.

Through the rearview mirror, Sophia observed the line of cars trailing behind them, her voice strained. "Plus, we have a prenup. It's just an early end."

William sneered, turned the wheel, and steered towards the nearby sea.

The car picked up speed.

Sophia's heart pounded.

In the blink of an eye, they arrived at the seaside.

William slammed the gas pedal, and the car careened into the sea at full throttle.

Speechless, Sophia gaped as the seawater swallowed the entire car.

She stared in disbelief, unable to comprehend.

What was William's motive?

Was he attempting suicide?

The luxury car boasted top-notch performance and would automatically send out an alert when submerged in water.

Yet, when the smart system signaled for an alert, William opted to dismiss it.

"You..."

Sophia struggled to keep her composure, locking eyes with William.

With a faint grin, William coolly retrieved a laptop from the back.

He keyed on his phone's keyboard.

Soon, a farewell note materialized on the computer screen.

"I might not be fond of kids, but unlike that old man, I am a responsible father. Everything in my name goes to my son. See, it's only right for him to bear the name Safe."

Glancing at it, Sophia shook her head frantically. "No, you've become the family heir. Your future is boundless. Why do this?"

"I find it thrilling," William said slyly, then grasped Sophia's chin. "Exciting, huh? Want one last romp before we meet our end?"

William's fingers trailed along Sophia's body.

A shiver raced down Sophia's spine, chilling her heart.

Quivering, she whispered, "I don't want to."

"What don't you want? To live or to make love again?" William locked eyes with her, and calmly tapped the send button, "The letter's written and sent. Don't fret, this lawyer is trustworthy."

Was this the moment for such discussions?

The car continued its descent.

Water gushed in through the windows.

The seawater was frigid, sending a chill through her heart.

Ashen-faced, Sophia couldn't fathom how William could do something so reckless.

Her lips moved, but her throat felt tight, rendering her speechless.
