Chapter 359: Jenny Confesses (Part 1)

As Robert looked at James, he suddenly realized—his hatred was gone.

He helped James sit up, letting him lean against his chest, and brought the cup to his lips. “Drink,” he said flatly. “Until you prove you’re innocent, this is all the trust I can give you. I don’t take unnecessary risks.”

James smiled faintly, took a few sips, and murmured, “Thanks.”

Without a word, Robert set him back down on the sofa and passed the cup to Laura. “Want a sip? You don’t mind, right?”

His deadpan tone caught Laura off guard—he was still joking? She almost burst out laughing. Her nerves eased. Grabbing the cup, she gulped down a few mouthfuls.

Robert only muttered to himself, “They should be here soon.”

A knock came at the door.

Robert stood and smiled. “Right on time.”

He opened the door casually.

David and Michael barged in, dragging in an unconscious woman between them. “Where are James and Laura?” they asked in unison.

“They’re inside.” Robert stepped aside. “Come in. We’ll talk.”

The two men didn’t waste time. They rushed over to check on James and Laura, eyes scanning for injuries.

Apart from their immobility, they looked fine—not a scratch.

David let out a sigh. “James, what happened? Weren’t you kidnapped by enemies? How is Robert here?”

James gave a helpless chuckle and glanced at Robert, now slouched on the sofa. “Oh, I was taken by my enemy. And that enemy… is Robert.”

Both David and Michael froze.

Robert said nothing. He stared down at the coffee table, motionless. It took them a while to process what they’d just heard.

David exhaled sharply. “Wait… you mean Robert is that friend of Will’s? The one trying to avenge him?”

James gave another bitter smile. “No. Robert is Will.”

“WHAT?!” Both men practically screamed. Even Robert flinched.

They stared at him, squinting, trying to match the face in front of them to the soft, shy boy they remembered. It didn’t line up.

“This is insane,” Michael blurted. “They’re clearly not the same person!”

“I don’t know either,” James muttered. “But that’s not the point.”

He turned his gaze to the woman they’d dragged in. “That’s Jenny, right?”

David and Michael exchanged glances and nodded. “Yeah. It’s her.”

Before James could say more, Robert’s entire body went rigid as he turned to look at Jenny.

She lay unconscious on the sofa, her face calm and slack.

“Did she confess?” Robert asked coldly.

David shook his head. “Didn’t have time. Once we got her, we rushed over. We figured it’d be more effective if she faced you directly.”

Robert nodded. “What did you find?”

David’s lips curled into a cold smirk. “Not much. Too many years have passed. But we did find someone who can prove Jenny touched James’ phone that afternoon.”

Robert let out a sharp, bitter laugh. “Wake her up.”

Michael didn’t hesitate. He injected the antidote. Moments later, Jenny stirred.

She mumbled something, hand groping at her forehead. Slowly, her eyes fluttered open.

“This isn’t your house,” David snapped, breaking her daze. “You’re not hallucinating. We’ve got questions.”

Jenny screamed, jolting upright. “What’s going on?! I—I wasn’t at home, was I?”

“You were,” David said coolly. “Now you’re not. Wake up. Focus.”

Jenny took a deep breath, sat up shakily, and looked around. Her eyes locked onto James. “Boss? Are you okay? I called last night, and the hospital said you were in critical condition…”

James sat back on the sofa and stared at her face. It looked sincere—genuinely concerned. But knowing what she’d done, all he saw was cruelty.

His voice cut like a knife. “Save it. There was no accident. I faked it—to investigate an injustice from years ago.”

Jenny’s face went pale.

She opened her mouth, as if to protest—but James didn’t let her.

“You know this man, right?” He gestured toward Robert. “But let me be clear—he’s not Robert. He’s Will. Our Will.”

At that name, Jenny froze. Her eyes shot toward Robert, trying to confirm it herself.

Her face twisted—first in horror, then dawning realization, followed by guilt… anger… and finally, quiet regret.

She let out a bitter laugh.

“Yes,” she said.

Everyone fell silent.

Robert jolted. “What did you say?”

Jenny exhaled, closed her eyes. “I knew it was you the moment I saw your eyes. You always had those eyes, Will. I did everything. James had nothing to do with it. He never knew.”

Her admission landed like a blow to the chest. Robert trembled violently.

But he clenched his fists, held himself together, and asked through gritted teeth, “Why? Why confess so easily now? Don’t you want to fight for yourself?”

Jenny opened her eyes again. They looked… tired.

“What’s the point?” she said. “You already know. Denying it won’t change anything. And you’d force the truth out of me eventually.”

She looked straight at Robert.

“And honestly… I’ve lived with this for too long. It’s eaten away at me. I was going mad. So, thank you—for letting me finally say it out loud.”

Silence fell again—this time heavier than before.
