Chapter 47: All new
Kayla
“ Excuse me,” I said to him, as I made to pick the call.
I took a few steps away from him.
It was my new secretary, Tyler Adams.
He was referred to me by a recruitment agency.
He was quite trustworthy and had proven himself to me as one who really yearned for the growth of my company.
“ Hey Tyler how is going?”
His reply caused my heart to ache for a moment.
“ Uhm, good day Ma'am, trust your day is fine.”
He took a brief pause before continuing.
“ My Milton came by today.
He had intended to meet you privately.”
I couldn't help but pause instantly, and I turned to look at Jonathan who was already staring at me.
“ What's wrong?”
He asked, attempting to get closer to me, but I spoke my head and motioned that he stayed back.
He accepted and Sood a few inches away, but still with the concerned look on his face.
“ what did he say he came to discuss?”
I asked the secretary.
“ Honestly, nothing really comprehensible to the human mind.
All I take from it though, is that he just wanted a way to get to you, maybe framing it as a formal meeting.
He somehow prooved that he sent in a booking email, although I received none of that prior to his appearance.
I let him understand you weren't available although He wasn't too convinced, he eventually left the office.”
I stood there, silent for a moment.
“ Allright Tyler, you did good. Be at alert around these people especially when they come to the office.
I normally don't trust them that much.
Take care”.
I said and I hung up.
I clenched my fist, and quickly took a scroll on my phone.
Searching for his contact.
“ George Milton”
Jonathan seemed to hear the name come out of my mouth, and he sighed.
I paused and turned to him.
Hands in the air, I shook my head, and walked back to him
“ Hey Joe look seriously, it's not even that.
Look here, it was the secretary who called. “
I said showing him the call log.
He nodded his head, so what about his name do you keep muttering? This the same guy who left your company to crumble? The very one we are trying to build huh?”
He asked, slowly taking the piss, and I chuckled
“ Hey Joe, relax. Tyler said he came to the office today to look for me.
Giving no official reason, although he managed to have an email written back to him confirming the appointment, one which Tyler has no remembrance of writing.”
I shrugged.
Jonathan sighed.
“ You know you really need to be careful.
I mean it's obvious who means good and bad for you.
For now at least.
Just take your steps wisely.”
He gave a smirk, and tapped me on the shoulder.
“I guess that was what a ruined moment feels like.
Let's get going.”
I had my arms folded and quite dad for having ruined the moment.
I followed and we went back to the office.
On the silent walk back, I couldn't help but think of what Jonathan had just said.
I should really know who stood by me and against me.
Even while he in particular had not been the best person in my life based on our past, it was undeniable that he was actually taking extraordinary steps to make sure he made all that was wrong to seem right.
George on his part had acted like he had a motion against me.
Probably the success of my company has gotten him nuts.
I couldn't bear to make myself look like a beggar before him.
He only is trying to get back simply because he now realises I am well to do even without him.
I nodded my head slowly as I walked.
“ Kayla!”
I was yanked out of my thoughts by the snap of his finger at me.
“ Hey what's wrong with you?”
He asked, and I chuckled, “ uhm nothing really, you don't have to bother.
I'm just rethinking all my past and mistakes you know.
It's all been a hell of a ride.”
He smiled and walked towards me.
“Take a seat” he said dragging out a seat from the waiting area.
“ Now listen.”
He cleared his voice.
There has been no mistakes made, there has been no errors to large to erase made yet.
It all has been a lesson to we both okay.
About Milton and Miriam, I really do think that there had to be something greater than that which we can see.
Matter of fact I just learnt that my bid to be the main sponsor for the sports festival coming in 6 months time has been overturned. Just when it was due for final clearance.
You know how often I get such news?”
He asked and I shook my head.
He smiled and took a seat for himself.
Seating and leaning forward to me, he replied,
“ Never have I ever gotten such a. Feedback in all my years at the helm of affairs.
Never! But you see, someone somewhere, and somehow has been able to manipulate something to make my offer seem less appealing.
Mind you, this will make me loose revenue this season.
It will inevitably impact sales. Cause I know my competitors will grab that spot.
We are literally fighting something bigger than it seems okay, and if only you will stay with me in this, we will surely overcome whatever the challenge will be.
I am a hundred percent sure on it.
We will definitely over come all of it .
You just have to give your hundred percent, while being true to me.”
I was silent as soon as he was done, then I stated at him for a moment.
No words uttered, just my state alone, and he immediately became uneasy.
He finally broke the silence.
“ I get it. I get it, honestly I'm trying my best to have nothing doing with her.
I really dislike the thought of having anything doing with her and like I said the other time, you are the only one I ever imagine my future with. Just you, and you alone! No other.”
I nodded my head as he spoke.
“ Interesting, but doesn't mean you don't have to checkmate her moves.
I can't help but feel something wrong somewhere.”
I shrugged and I got up.
“ Man, its late already, I mean it's past 5, I will need to catch some sleep atleast for a few hours before I prepare for the day ahead. “
I had my back turned to him as I tried to pack my stuff together.
