Chapter 319: Don't Let Lily Steal the Spotlight Anymore
Chapter 319: Don't Let Lily Steal the Spotlight Anymore
David also wanted to know who else was backing Lily besides Eric.
Connie studied at David carefully. Seeing that he didn't seem to know, she suddenly felt a bit more cheerful.
Hadn't Lily bragged to the Roberts family about Dennis's identity?
It seemed the conflict between Lily and the Roberts family was bigger than she'd imagined. That was actually a good thing - at least David wouldn't side with Lily anymore.
David said tentatively, "Mrs. West?"
At that moment, Eric came over to greet them. "Connie, those reporters you arranged asked some pretty sharp questions. Do you have something against me?"
Eric only needed to make one phone call to find out who arranged the reporters.
He had to come over and test the situation, was it aimed at Lily, or at him?
The smile on Connie's face became much more genuine. "I believe many people were wondering what Lily was relying on to stand on that stage and speak. Now, after this test, everyone believes Lily has real ability."
But even now, Connie still felt something must have gone wrong somewhere, Lily must have known the questions in advance to answer so well.
Most likely, Eric had a hand in it, since Eric and Dennis were very close.
Eric glanced at Emily. "Connie, you shouldn't bring Emily out for no reason. You should think more carefully about character when it comes to choosing a son-in-law. Bringing her out before anything's even confirmed isn't good for Emily's reputation."
Emily smiled understandingly. "Eric, I'm fine."
Because of her leg condition, people in their circle were pretty considerate of her.
After hearing this, David felt quite uncomfortable. "Mr. Murphy, if you have a problem with me, just say it directly. No need to beat around the bush."
Eric actually answered directly, "Good that you know."
David's expression changed, but Sophie stepped forward. "Mr. Murphy, I know you've had a problem with my brother David because of Lily. But family conflicts can't be blamed on just one person, Lily must have done things wrong too."
David caught on. "If Mr. Murphy has a problem with me because of Lily, then I have nothing to say."
"Alright, I've met Ms. Roberts a few times and understand her temper. Family conflicts aren't a big deal."
By saying this, Connie was taking David's side.
Emily kept her head down and said nothing.
Eric disliked the Roberts family even more. He said casually, "Emily, your birthday is coming up soon. You should celebrate it properly."
Connie smiled along. "That's right, we should make it grand this time. Everyone from the Roberts family should come."
After hearing this, David's eyes flashed with delight. Were they going to publicly acknowledge his relationship with Emily?
He knew bringing Connie into the AI project was a sure win.
Connie didn't say much more and left directly with Emily.
David was in a great mood. With the West family acknowledging his status, he could use them to climb higher.
Sophie was also excited. "David, when we go to the West family's party, should we prepare in advance?"
The Roberts family could finally join high society.
Her opportunity had come, too.
David nodded with a smile. "We definitely need to prepare well. We absolutely can't embarrass the Roberts family."
Sophie's eyes darted around. "But what about Lily? If she goes, she'll probably fight with us again."
James nodded. "Yeah, nothing good ever happens when we run into Lily. Don't let her go."
Sophie thought the same. If Lily went, she'd definitely steal her spotlight again.
Without Lily, Sophie would be the Roberts family's only daughter.
David turned his head and looked at Lily over there, surrounded by people like a star surrounded by admirers, dazzling.
He snorted coldly. "You're right, she already said she doesn't need to rely on the Roberts family."
At this critical time, they couldn't let Lily go to the West family's party and cause trouble, dragging the Roberts family down.
After hearing this, Sophie instantly became very happy. "David, then I need to buy a really beautiful dress so I won't embarrass our Roberts family."
James held Sophie's hand. "David, since our family's biggest problem is solved now, I want to get engaged to Sophie soon."
The smile on Sophie's face froze. "James, there's no need to rush, right? After all, David still has so much going on."
She didn't want to get engaged to James.
But David directly agreed with James, they'd discuss it after the West family's birthday party.
Sophie was so angry that she wanted to kill someone.
At that moment, Lily suddenly felt an uncomfortable gaze.
She looked up and only saw the backs of the Roberts family, meeting Sophie's dark eyes full of hatred.
Lily showed a provocative expression, which made Sophie's face turn pale with anger.
Lily knew Sophie had introduced IntelliSense AI Corporation to David. She'd have to investigate that properly later.
She was also looking forward to what David's expression would be when he learned the truth.
That day would be the day the Roberts family went bankrupt.
After the event ended, Lily noticed Dennis still hadn't come. She didn't know how things were at the hospital.
On the way back to school.
Lily called Anouk from the PR team. "Any news from the car shop?"
"The person who was driving is a repair technician at the shop, skilled, well-liked. He's been going to work normally lately, eating and playing cards with colleagues. Nothing unusual."
Lily thought about Sophie's recent moves. "Check if there's any connection between IntelliSense AI Corporation and Sophie."
There had to be something wrong between those two.
Before hanging up, Lily thought of something. "How's Mrs. Gonzalez doing?"
"Mrs. Gonzalez's condition hasn't been good. She's still being treated at the hospital."
Lily looked out the window. No wonder Dennis hadn't come even after the conference ended.
When Lily got back to the dorm, she saw Emily had also returned, but her eyes looked red.
She walked over. "You've been crying?"
Emily forced a smile. "I told Connie I wanted to break up with David. She wouldn't agree."
"What right does she have to disagree?"
"Because right now the West family is hers to run. My stepmother, my brother, and I all have to walk on eggshells around her."
Emily showed a helpless expression. "I used to think Connie really cared about me. Now I realize that's not the case."
Connie chose David because there were business interests involved.
Lily looked at Emily. "Do you want to be independent and not controlled by others anymore?"
She'd just heard Eric mention Emily's birthday and that the Roberts family would be invited, which showed they were going to make their relationship public.
Emily nodded firmly. "Yes."
"Have confidence. Look at me - I've broken away from the Roberts family and become independent. Nothing's impossible. Since you've made your decision, we need to plan your birthday party carefully."
After Lily finished speaking, she saw Emily smile at her.
She actually had selfish reasons for helping Emily. The West family was a leader in news media after all. If Emily became independent later and had influence, it would be easier for her to investigate the Harper family.
A week later, on the weekend, the West family's birthday party.
Before Lily left the dorm, she received another large gift box without any luxury brand logo.
She knew this was from Dennis. He'd been sending things every day this week - the dorm was almost full.
Emily opened the box and laughed. "Dennis bought this dress. I heard Sophie wanted it. David even asked me to help. Sophie's going to be furious with you today."
Zoey asked tentatively, "Lily, are you going to wear it?"
"Yes."
If it could make Sophie furious, why not wear it?
Today's birthday party was especially important for Lily, too.
Just then, Lily's phone rang. She looked and saw it was actually David calling.
Her expression turned cold. From the other end came: "Lily, Emily's birthday today, and she invited the Roberts family. If you want to come back to the Roberts family and continue being my sister, then come back and go with us."
