Chapter 249

The car sped down the highway towards the airport.

William leaned back in the rear seat, pretending to nap, but his mind kept replaying the scene of their kiss. Every time, his eyes were wide open, seeing and feeling everything.

"Are you really falling for her? Have you forgotten everything?"

A soft voice echoed in his ear.

"I haven't. Everything is still under control," William murmured to himself. He lifted his head and instructed the driver to take a different route.

It was a wide road, the same one where William and his mother, Violet, had their accident. Over the past few years, he had forced himself to drive down this road to recover the lost memories from the crash, but each attempt only worsened his insomnia, leaving the memories shrouded in a thin veil.

Kissing Amelia, on the other hand, seemed like a lifeline for William. It inexplicably brought him comfort and had left him incredibly relaxed the night before.

He feared that this comfort might lead him to forget the painful memories he didn't want to revisit. So, he pushed himself to travel down that road again.

The driver turned, surprised by William's sudden decision, but followed orders without question, steering the car in the new direction.

A voice in William's head kept talking, "What are you afraid of? What's there to fear? Why are you scared to remember those memories, and why do you need to remember them?"

"Are you in love with her?"

The car jolted, and William looked at the increasingly familiar surroundings. He couldn't help but close his eyes, sinking into a strange sensation.

The key to unlocking those memories could appear at any moment.

That day, Violet and Victor had fought. Violet took William and left, intending to drive alone to Maple Town to find Robert.

The distance was long, and the rain was visibly getting heavier.

Ahead was a curve, and the GPS kept issuing warnings.

"Slippery roads, drive safely, slow down."

The mechanical voice repeated continuously.

Violet chatted with William in the back seat, "William, the car is bumpy. You can't read in here. If you're tired, just rest and sleep for a while."

William complied, always listening to Violet. He put away his book and leaned against the window, closing his eyes.

Violet gave William a gentle smile before focusing on driving. But suddenly, the steering wheel seemed to lose control, veering sharply to the right.

A loud crash echoed.

The car hurtled towards an old tree, tilting at a bizarre angle against it.

The car continued to skid.

William, who hadn't fallen asleep, realized something was wrong and quickly opened his eyes, but it was too late.

Even if he had opened his eyes earlier, he could only witness the crash, unable to change anything.

William, in the back seat, was relatively unharmed, with a gash on his head, while Violet was in critical condition, with shards of glass embedded in her.

William stared in shock at his bleeding mother, wanting to call out "Mom," but the trauma rendered him speechless.

A hand tapped on the window.

A girl pressed her face against the glass, but it was custom-made, making it hard to hear from outside. Her voice, tinged with urgency, shouted inside.

"Is anyone in there? Are you alive? Can you hear me?"

In a car crash, every minute counts, as explosions can happen quickly.

As Amelia prepared to break the glass, she heard a tapping sound from inside.

"Okay, I see you. Stay still and don't move. I'm going to break the window."

After confirming someone inside had heard her, Amelia shattered the window.

She reached in to pull William out, but he seemed almost mute, pointing towards the front seat, making muffled sounds.

He seemed to be asking Amelia to save the person in the front first.

Amelia frowned, not understanding, "You're in better shape than the person in the front. I'll get you out first and then save the other person. If you don't cooperate, both of you will stay here, and I won't help."

With that ultimatum, William reluctantly let Amelia pull him out.

Amelia then tried to rescue the beautiful woman in the front.

Unfortunately, the glass shards and something else had pierced Violet. Removing her could be fatal.

William lay on the ground, unable to speak, watching Amelia work. She seemed younger but handled the situation more maturely than him.

He tried to help despite his bleeding body, but Amelia noticed.

"Stay put and don't make things worse. Is that your mom in there?"

William nodded.

"Her condition is much worse. I can't get her out without risking her life. I've called the police and an ambulance. They should arrive soon. I'll try to stop her bleeding so she'll be in better shape when they rescue her."
