Chapter 244
Aurora thought back to the hospital scene, her eyes fixed on Amelia. Amelia had accepted the doctor's proposal without hesitation. Aurora had witnessed Aaron's utter contempt for Amelia and couldn't wrap her head around it. She'd asked Amelia why she chose to shoulder this burden. Amelia's response was still vivid in her mind. "I promised Arian. He asked me to do this one last thing for him. Besides, Aaron's too fragile and weak. His hatred for me is insignificant."
Amelia had been toying with a fallen flower as she spoke, her tone indifferent.
Her words mirrored her true detachment, even when it concerned a human life.
Amelia's inner strength was so immense that she could completely disregard even this. As an adversary, she was indeed formidable.
And today, in front of everyone, they once again realized the depth of Amelia's inner strength.
While everyone was mulling over this, a small device on Aaron's body was flashing intermittently. Unfortunately, it was still daylight, so no one noticed the device on his waist. Everything they discussed was being transmitted accurately to someone else, who chuckled softly, his eyes gradually lighting up with excitement.
Perhaps his gaze was too intense, as Wesley woke up from his hospital bed and looked over at Nox.
"Did you hear something interesting? Your eyes look like you've discovered a treasure."
Nox snorted, his gaze and smile both disturbingly intense. "Who would have thought? Amy's always been like this. It's truly unexpected."
"But then again, it makes sense. You wouldn't change your personality just because you met me. You're truly unique and fascinating. Someone like you should definitely be with me."
Nox's expression was extremely unsettling, his eyes revealing a hint of madness, which made Wesley quite uneasy.
Aaron, having regained his memory and learned about the situation, was overwhelmed by the shock. Coupled with his physical injuries, he fainted before he could leave. Evelyn temporarily placed him in a guest room at her home.
William had left and returned to Robert's house, only to find someone following him—Glenn.
Glenn had followed him there.
Glenn glanced at him coldly before taking the wheelchair from William's assistant and pushing him slowly towards the yard.
Throughout the entire process, neither of them initiated conversation.
"I heard recently that the Brown Group has been holding numerous meetings, possibly planning some reforms or changes. Even your father has stepped out from behind the scenes to take over the Brown Group. He signed several big deals shortly after taking charge and dismissed a large number of employees, rooting out spies from other companies. It's been quite a commotion."Glenn looked down at William, whose face was like a mask. "People are saying you've been ousted from the Brown Group and won't be taking over in the future. They're claiming your dad stayed out of the spotlight not because he couldn't handle it, but because he loved you too much and wanted to make room for you. They even mentioned your mom, saying her effective management of the Brown Group's subsidiaries was heavily backed by your dad. In short, your dad's getting all the praise."
Glenn stopped the wheelchair, crouched down in front of William, and asked, "Mr. Brown, the Brown Group has always been one of the top companies in Silverlight City, closely connected with many other enterprises. Now that your father has taken action, it will inevitably affect their cooperation. So, I'm curious about something."
William met his gaze but stayed silent.
"Is this situation temporary, or has it been decided? Are you really going to hand everything over to your father?"
William looked away, staring into the distance. After a long pause, he finally asked, "So, is this your question, or did they send you to ask me?"
"Does it matter? Every company in Silverlight City is very interested in the Brown Group and curious about this."
"Of course, it matters. I need to know how to explain this. But from what you're saying, it seems like the people in Silverlight City sent you to ask me, right?"
Glenn smiled wryly and nodded. "Of course, I'm also very curious. Even though many people have changed their minds about your father, I still find it hard to believe in his abilities. If he truly takes over, I'll have to reconsider future collaborations with the Brown Group."
William chuckled at Glenn's bluntness. "Then you should start reconsidering. I won't be taking over the Brown Group again, nor will I have any further ties with them."
Glenn's eyes widened slightly. He had suspected this might happen, but hadn't been sure. Now that it was confirmed, he couldn't help but feel shocked.
He stood up, resumed pushing the wheelchair towards the yard, and continued chatting casually with William. "So, what are your plans? Are you going to live like those spoiled rich kids, doing nothing? I don't know why, but I don't see you as that type."
Glenn pretended to chat nonchalantly, but William sensed his true intentions. His brows furrowed slightly, and a hint of displeasure appeared in his eyes. "Your curiosity is a bit too much. I thought you wouldn't be interested in other people's business."
Glenn chuckled, sensing William's displeasure. He decided not to push further. "Alright, I overstepped. I'm just curious because you're Amelia's fiancé, the only one with an official relationship with her."
