Chapter 81: A Desperate Attempt
Alex entered the house, and there was a huge smile on his face. He was extra happy today. He wanted to spend more time with Emily, but his mom called him and asked him to come home. He didn’t want to come and see Natasha. He didn’t want to spoil his mood, but he also didn’t want a new drama. He knew that if he didn’t go home, his mom and Natasha would do something again. He didn’t want any new trouble, so he thought to come home and give his mom a visit. After that, he would go back to his Emily.
"Mom. Mom." Alex called out for his mother as he came into the living room, but there was no one there.
Alex then climbed the stairs to go upstairs to his mom’s room.
He was once again going to call his mom, but before that, he heard her voice. She was in her room, talking to someone.
Alex knocked on the Door and then entered the room.
Sarah saw Alex there and smiled, "You are back. I thought you wouldn’t come. Anyway, come here." Sarah patted the bed next to her.
Alex nodded to Sarah and walked to her. But his mood was already spoiled. There wasn’t Sarah alone in that room; on the other side of the bed, Natasha was sitting too, looking at something on the tablet.
"How are you feeling now, mom?" Alex asked with a smile.
"I'm much better after seeing you here. But where were you? I knew you weren't in the office, so don't try to lie," Sarah said, narrowing her eyes at Alex. She knew everything Already. Natasha had called the office and found out the truth.
"Mom, why do you always want to know where I am? It's not like I'm doing something wrong." Alex had enough of all these questions. He wasn’t a kid anymore, so what's with this questioning?
"When I say that you are doing something wrong, if you won't tell me, I will wonder." Sarah gently placed her hand on Alex's shoulder.
Alex took her hand from his shoulder and grabbed it in his hands. "You just need to know I'm doing nothing wrong. And the company is doing a lot better. There's nothing to worry about."
"I'm worried about you." Sarah touched Alex's cheek with her other hand.
"But there's nothing to worry about," Alex repeated.
"I'm worried that you're giving someone more attention than your girlfriend," Sarah finally said.
Alex sighed and got up from the bed. "I have already told you many times that she isn't my girlfriend. She is lying."
"I know very well who is lying, Alex. I know you're seeing some girl." Sarah said, looking at Alex with a scolding look.
"Who said that?" Alex asked. He couldn’t let his mom know about Emily just yet. It was only going to cause more problems.
"Natasha told me she saw you with that girl many times," Sarah said.
Alex looked at Natasha and smiled, "Really? Would you like to tell me where you saw me with that girl?"
"See, Mom? I told you that he would get angry if we talked about it. You shouldn't say it," Natasha said, hugging Sarah's arm like a scared kid.
"Why shouldn't we talk about it? It's necessary. I can't let him do whatever he likes to do. He needs to be responsible; after all, a week later, you two are getting married," Sarah said, lightly patting Natasha's cheek as Natasha leaned her face on Sarah's shoulder.
A shy smile spread on Natasha's face as she heard that, but on Alex's face, thousands of questions were written.
"What are you saying? Marry me and her? That's impossible," Alex yelled.
"Why won't you marry her? You have no right to say no. She's pregnant with your child!" Sarah got up from the bed and yelled back.
Alex laughed upon hearing that. "Mom, she's lying. Why don't we go to the doctor and check if she's really pregnant? She's just lying about being pregnant. Actually, she wants my money," Alex tried to explain.
"I don’t want your money, Alex. How can you say that? Just because you don't love me anymore, you can't blame me like this." Natasha started throwing crocodile tears.
"Oh my, don't cry, Nat." Sarah hugged Natasha and gently patted her back.
Alex sighed, seeing all this drama. He knew his mom would not listen to him. She only believes in Natasha.
"I'm going. Don't call me again. I'm not coming here anymore," Alex said, walking towards the door.
"Wait, what do you mean you're not coming here anymore?" Sarah quickly let go of Natasha and walked to Alex. She grabbed Alex's arm and stopped him. "You can't go anywhere now."
"Then what do you want me to do?" Alex turned around and looked at his mother, anger burning in his eyes.
"You have to stay here until you two get married. After that, you can go with Natasha to live in your house," Sarah said firmly.
"Mom…" Alex exhaled a deep breath to calm himself down. He didn't want to say anything to his mother, which he regretted later. "Please, trust me. I'm not-"
"I will kill myself," Natasha said as she suddenly grabbed a knife with which she had cut apples for Sarah before Alex came there. "I don't want to live if you don't love me anymore," Natasha said, tears rolling down her cheeks.
"Natasha!" Sarah was shocked, and so was Alex.
Sarah slowly took steps towards Natasha as she said, "Dear, please don't do this. He was just joking. He didn't really mean what he said."
"No! I know you are lying. He doesn't like me. Nobody loves me. Everybody wants to throw me out of their lives." Natasha started crying even more. The knife dropped from her hand onto the floor, and she also fell to her knees on the floor.
Sarah quickly came to Natasha and wrapped her arms around her.
"Don't cry. Don't cry. I'm here. I'm here for you," Sarah said while gently patting her back.
Alex, who was standing away, was in total shock. He thought getting rid of Natasha would be easy. He thought he would make Sarah believe in him. He would take Natasha to the doctor, and the truth would come out, and she would leave him. Things would go back to normal. But it seemed he was wrong. It wasn't as easy as it seemed.
"Alright. Don't hurt yourself. I will marry you, so please…" Alex slowly took steps towards Natasha.
Natasha and Sarah both looked at Alex in unison.
"Really, Alex?" Sarah asked, and with tears in her eyes, a smile arose on her lips.
"Yes-yes, Mom. I will…"
"No, he is lying. He doesn't really mean it. He is only saying it, so I don't hurt myself." Natasha said while crying.
"Of course not. It's not like that." Alex sat next to Natasha and raised his hand before placing it on her shoulder. "I will really do it. So please don't try to hurt yourself again. I won't like it."
"You will really marry me?" Natasha asked, looking at Alex.
Alex nodded.
Natasha smiled through her tears and gave Alex a tight hug.
"Thank you. Thank you so much, Alex. Thank you," she said while crying and hugging Alex.
Sarah smiled, happy that Alex had finally accepted Natasha.
"I'm happy for both of you, my dear kids," Sarah said as she hugged them both.
