Chapter 85

The drive to the office was as quiet as a graveyard, as both parties had nothing to say to each other throughout. Sorin had a lot going on in his head since he had to plan things out properly, while Kelvin, on the other hand, could not really understand why Sorin would want to divorce me when I did him no wrong. He had thought all Sorin needed was time and that with time he would warm up to me, but now, it seemed like he had been so wrong. It seemed as if he didn't know his friend anymore.

Finally, they got to the office and Sorin got to work but as Kelvin was about to leave the room, Sorin reminded him,

“Don't forget to do what I asked you to do.”

“What is that?” Kelvin asked him.

Sorin, who had started working on his computer, raised his head to look at Kelvin.

“Don't tell me you've forgotten already. I'm talking about the Divorce lawyer I asked you to get me! I need it done as soon as possible!”

“Oh, that…” Kelvin replied with a frown.

“What do you mean by ‘oh, that’? Were you pretending like you didn't know what I was trying to say?” Sorin asked him, his tone showing his displeasure.

“I'm sorry. I was just hoping you would have had a rethink.” Kelvin replied.

“Rethink? Really, Kelvin?” Sorin said, angered by Kelvin’s reluctance to get him what he wanted. “Why should I rethink my decision? This marriage was not something I wanted in the first place, so what are you on about? Please don't get me angry.”

“I apologize, I'll do as you have said.” Kelvin assured him.

“You better!” Sorin uttered,

Still not pleased with Sorin’s decision, Kelvin tried to push his luck, “But I still think you should-”

“DON’T!” Sorin yelled at him, cutting him off. “You know what? I don't even want to hear anything from you anymore.” He added.

He immediately turned his chair around, turning his back to Kelvin, thinking that his actions would make him leave, but after a moment of silence and thinking he was alone, he turned around only to be startled to find Kelvin still standing, without saying anything.

“Whoa! What the hell!” He yelled as he almost jumped out of his chair.

“What is the matter?” Kelvin asked, innocently.

“What are you still doing here? I thought you left already.” Sorin said, as he tried to compose himself.

“Well, I couldn't just leave.” Kelvin replied.

“You couldn't leave or you didn't want to leave? Which one is it?” He asked him.

“Well, I couldn't because there's something else you need to know.” He responded, making Sorin raise an eyebrow.

“Our foreign business partners have requested to see you in person concerning the unfinished deal.” He continued.

“See me in person? Why?” He asked him, quite puzzled.

“I have no idea.” Kelvin answered him.

“That's strange. We hardly have meetings in person. Don't we have a representative for that?” Sorin asked him as he began to immediately think, tapping his pen on the table.

“Yes, we do but they have refused to meet with the representative. I was told that they insisted on seeing you in person.” Kelvin answered.

Sorin sighed and leaned back into his chair, racking his brain.

“You go then. I trust that you can represent me and the company perfectly?” Sorin said, looking him in the eyes.

“I'm afraid that won't be possible, sir.

Surprised, he asked, “Why not?”

“Information reaching me states that they said if you don't come in person, then, the deal is off.” Kelvin answered.

“What?!” Sorin exclaimed.

“I was more shocked than you are now when I heard it.” Kelvin replied.

“Why are they asking to see me in person all of a sudden? For what reason?” Sorin spoke to himself but it was loud enough for Kelvin to hear it.

“I really don't know but I can't help but think that something smells really fishy.” Kelvin said as he suspected something definitely had to be going on.

“Really? What makes you think so?” Sorin asked, curiously.

“Yes, sir.”

He paused for a very short moment and then continued, “I don't know,” he shrugged and continued, “I just have a hunch and you know my instincts are usually right.”

Sorin sighed and thought about it for a while. “So when is this meeting going to be held? Have you chosen a date yet?” He asked.

Kelvin immediately took out his phone from his pocket, “I'll call to confirm that now.”

He stepped a few steps away from Sorin and dialled a number and as soon as it began to ring, he held the phone to his ear.

“Hello……” He began to converse with the person at the other end of the call, while Sorin watched him.

Suddenly, his facial expression changed and his eyes widened. “What?! Really?” He exclaimed and moved further backwards. With this, Sorin immediately knew something was definitely wrong.

“Why? How could you even agree to such a thing? Did you even try to convince them otherwise?” He asked, trying to whisper, as he looked at Sorin at intervals.

He paused and then sighed, “Alright, I'll see if I can try to convince them to change it too and I'll call you back if I need any more information.” Kelvin said and ended the call.

Sorin's curious eyes didn't leave Kelvin since he saw the switch in his mood and so immediately Kelvin ended the call, he was quick to ask him questions.

“What's up? What is going on? Did they not agree to meet with us anymore?” He asked Kelvin.

“That’s not it, I think I have to give them a call right away.” He replied and before Sorin could say anything, he left, saying, “I'll be right back.”

Kelvin immediately dialled a number as he stepped out of the office and after a few rings, the call was picked.

“Hello,” A masculine voice was heard immediately when the call was picked.

“Good day, Mr Ray, this is Kelvin from-”

“I know you. You're Mr Zaveri’s assistant, right?” Mr Ray spoke, interrupting Kelvin’s introduction.

“Uhm, yes sir.” Kelvin answered, wondering how the man knew who he was.

“I'm sure you're surprised as to how I know it's you, but that's a discussion for another day and that's if it's worth it.” He said, quite rudely but Kelvin just listened, ignoring his rude remarks.

“So why have you called me? I don't think we have any meeting before the planned date, do we?” He asked Kelvin.

“No sir, we don't. I'm actually calling regarding the date that was picked, sir.” Kelvin calmly replied.

“What about it? Is anything wrong with it?” Mr Ray asked.

“Not exactly, but please sir, is it possible to reschedule the meeting? I mean, can the date be changed?” He asked, hoping to get a positive response.

“Why? What is the reason?” Mr Ray asked him.

“It's due to personal reasons which I can't disclose to you.” Kevin answered.

Mr Ray scoffed mockingly, “Well, If it can't hold on that day, the deal is off. Tell that to your boss.” Kelvin could sense the mockery but ignored it still and tried to speak to him about the date again.

“Have a good day.” Mr Ray laughed scornfully and ended the call before Kelvin could protest any further.

“Son of a-” Kelvin angrily cussed him out.

After thinking hard and not knowing what else to do, he went back into the office, to give Sorin the update.

“What took you so long? When is it?” Sorin asked him as he stood up to get a cup of coffee from his coffee maker, but Kelvin just stood there, quiet.

Sorin looked away from his cup of coffee, to Kelvin who was still quiet, “I just asked a question, Kelvin. Why are you unusually quiet?” He asked as he began to make his way back to his seat. “I need to be prepared, you know.”

Kelvin finally spoke but the moment Kelvin mentioned the date, the cup slipped from Sorin's hand, spilling all its contents, falling to the ground and instantly breaking into pieces.

Hearing this, Sorin immediately had a panic attack and began to hyperventilate. Right at that moment, I unexpectedly walked in with the receptionist.
