Chapter 56

Damien pulled Emily to the passenger side door and opened it.

“Get in,” Damien said in a low voice, but Emily stayed where she was. She didn’t do as Damien asked.

“Get in, Emily.” Damien tried to be patient. She had no idea how worried he was at the thought of her being alone with Brian.

“If I don’t get in, what are you going to do?” Emily asked with a challenging look.

“You’re going to force me like you did at the restaurant?” The girl vented her frustration. To hell with the contract. Emily couldn’t accept Damien treating her this way. Damien slammed the car door hard, startling Emily. She caught Damien’s deadly stare before he turned around.

Damien swore as he turned his back on Emily. He wanted to shake her so hard that she would realize she had just dodged the danger that was Brian. Damien put both hands on his waist and tried to control his anger. He could handle his anger towards Brian. But it took him a long time to do so with this girl.

“Why are you so angry?” Although she felt discouraged, Emily had the courage to ask. Damien ignored Emily’s question. He took a deep breath, then walked to the driver’s side door and got into the car. The girl heard the engine start. Emily pursed her lips. She didn’t like it when Damien was like that.

Damien honked twice. It was his signal for her to get in the car. But the girl just stood there, looking at him sharply. At least that was what Emily thought, but again she was startled by Damien. The man honked for a long time until it was deafening. Emily got into the car because she didn’t want people to be disturbed by what Damien was doing. Damien drove the car as soon as Emily sat down. The girl squinted at him. She hadn’t even buckled in yet. What an angry man.

“Please don’t drive too fast,” Emily whispered amid Damien’s dark aura.

“I just finished eating. Don’t make you change cars again because I threw up.” Emily hoped her words sounded sarcastic, but it had no effect on Damien.

“Did you hear me, Damien?” asked Emily. She couldn’t stand the man’s silence. Emily couldn’t understand Damien. She didn’t know what he was worried about. He should have been happy that she was trying to get Brian to stop seeing her. Even if Emily didn’t know the result yet, at least he had tried.

“Damien!” The girl yelled because Damien wasn’t listening to her. The man was driving fast. She didn’t know how fast he was going, but Emily could feel her stomach churning. Suddenly, the man stopped the car. Emily rubbed her chest, trying to calm her heartbeat.

“Next time, don’t do anything without my permission.” Damien spoke before Emily could open her mouth.

“Do I have to buy time to get your permission?” Damien turned his head immediately and looked at the girl sharply. She should not have answered Damien’s words. Especially a question Damien didn’t like.

“Not to buy time,” the man said through clenched teeth.

“But to leave that madman alone.” They exchanged glances for a long time until Emily decided to look away.

“I don’t know what you’re worried about, but I can handle Brian. You haven’t forgotten what I did at Victoria’s house, have you?”

“Oh, I remember your act very well.” Damien smiled wryly, it was a mocking smile.

“But the person you’re dealing with is no ordinary person. He can do crazy things to you.”

“But I’m fine. I can’t make Brian stop seeing me because of you,” Emily said in a calm voice. She tried this method. Speak calmly when Damien speaks angrily.

“Are you sure? Maybe you feel like throwing up because that man put something in your food.” The thought of that made Damien want to do something. He drove to the hospital. Damien wanted to make sure Emily was all right.

“Where are we going?” asked Emily when she saw that Damien wasn’t taking her to the penthouse.

“The hospital.”

“Who’s sick? Your friend or Victoria’s?”

“You,” Emily’s eyes widened at Damien’s answer.

“When did I say sick? I’m not sick, Damien.” As if that would stop Damien. He didn’t listen to Emily at all. The man drove calmly toward the hospital.

“Damien, go back to the penthouse now.”

“We’ll go home after I make sure you’re okay.” At the man’s reply, Emily could no longer contain her anger. What a control freak. Did everything have to go Damien’s way?

“But I’m fine.” Emily raised her voice.

“Are you going to be like this every time I see Brian?” Damien glared at Emily immediately. What the heck was that girl asking?

“You’re not going to see that guy again.”

“How can you be so sure? He met me at school.” According to Emily, Brian wouldn’t stop until she’d said some scathing words that could hurt the man’s heart.

“Starting tomorrow, you will be protected by bodyguards,” Emily’s eyes widened at Damien’s words.

“Brian won’t be able to get near you until he deals with your bodyguard.” Emily could only shake her head as she looked at him. Damien’s attitude was too much.

“Turn around, now,” Emily said after a sigh. She didn’t want to think about what Damien had planned for tomorrow. That was up to him. The important thing was that they got home first.

“I’m fine. No need to go to the hospital.” There was no answer.

“Do you think it’s possible that Brian would poison the person he likes? He wouldn’t do that even if the world ends.” Damien gripped the wheel tightly. Emily didn’t know that Brian could do anything.

“Damien, come on. Don’t make a big deal out of this.”

“I’m making a big deal out of it?” Damien said after stopping the car. He gave Emily a strange look. What if Brian hurt Emily? The question popped into Damien’s head again. How would he feel if that happened?

“He must have planned something when he met you earlier.”

“You’re right, but not to hurt me.” The girl took a deep breath.

“He was just asking about my treatment in England.” Damien chuckled a little. Of course, Brian wanted to know. The man must be suspicious of Victoria’s treatment there.

“You can handle his questions?” Emily nodded. Although she was a little overwhelmed by his questions, she managed to answer Brian. There was just one thing the girl wasn’t sure of.

“He asked for the wedding ring,” Emily looked at Damien, who was staring at her, and raised her left hand.

“He saw I wasn’t wearing a wedding ring.” Damien cursed inwardly. He hadn’t thought of that. The ring should have been the first thing he looked for as soon as Emily signed the contract.

“What was your answer?”

“I replied that my ring was being repaired because of the change in my weight since I got sick.”

“Do you think he believed you?” Emily didn’t answer. As far as the wedding ring was concerned, she doubted that Brian would eat her words. Damien suspected as much. He took a slow breath.

“It’s okay. I’ll handle it.”
