Chapter 31: Not again!
Lila
I didn’t need a soothsayer to tell me that it was damn intentional. Isabella didn’t trip, she only pretended to just so she could empty her drink on me. Jealousy had eaten deep into her and she couldn’t hide it.
My dress was wet in an instant and I looked messy. I swallowed the words I wanted to saw when I saw no remorse on her face. Daniel wouldn’t say anything too, and was just staring like he didn’t see what jusg happened.
I was so embarrassed, I quickly stood up and walked out. I didn’t want to call attention to myself so I didn’t run but my steps were doubled.
I got out and was heading to the restroom when I suddenly felt someone pull me into the corner.
He hugged me before I could see his face but I knew it was Daniel. I know his smell and his warmth was so relaxing that I melted into it. He held me for a long second before he finally released me.
“Here, take this,” he said and then wrapped his jacket around me.
“I’m sorry about that,” he added but that wasn’t what I wanted.
“What are you sorry about? What exactly? Is it true that I’m only a broken girl to you? One of the many that you gave at your disposal?” I asked while he looked confused.
“What? Heck no and I can’t even believe you’re saying that. Actually, I can see why you’d think that but it’s not true, Isabella is just a pained ex who has decided to be a pain in my life.” He quickly cleared but it still wasn’t what I wanted.
“You’re still not answering my question. What do you think of me?” I asked.
“You’re one of the strongest person I know and maybe it’s time for me to say the truth. At he start, I saw you only as a means to an end but not anymore. A lot has changed within the time we’ve been together and you’ve honestly changed my view about things. I know this is only a contract between us and should remain strictly business. And trust me, I tried everything not to cross the line but every day that went by, crushed every of my defenses till I had none left.” He let out and then continued.
“You’re not broken to me. Infact, if anyone is broken, it’s me. Not you. And I mean every word I’m saying right now.” He concluded and somehow, I believed him.
I could tell he was telling the truth so I just nodded.
“Thank you for telling me.” I slowly replied and he nodded too.
“I’ll go clean up now.” I added.
“I’ll wait for you,” he replied.
I went into the restroom and cleaned up. The dress was already drying up so I couldn’t get all the stains out but thankfully, I had Daniel’s jacket to cover up.
He was still waiting when I got out and there was still that glow in his eyes which made me almost blush but I tried so hard to hide it.
“I think we should head home now. It’s late already and your dress is soiled too. You won’t be comfortable and I don’t want that.” He chimed in and I didn’t even bother to argue. I had the same thought but just didn’t know how to tell him. Since he said it, I quickly jumped at it.
He went back inside to get my purse and we left.
“Did you mean it?” He suddenly asked during the drive home, finally breaking the silence that filled the car since we left.
“Mean what?” I asked too.
“What you said when Isabella asked you that question. You gave such a detailed answer and I just want to know if you meant it or just trying to play along.” He clarified and I went mute for a second, trying to recollect the things I said.
I actually remembered every word, I was just contemplating if I should tell him the truth or not.
“It doesn’t matter if I mean it or not. I only said the truth which is you’re a good man or don’t you think you are? To me, I know you are. I could point a lot of things about you that scares me but it’s not a lie that you’re a good man. You saved my sister’s life and that in my books, will ever qualify you as a good man.” I explained.
“Thank you, that means a lot.” He muttered and I nodded.
That was it. We went back to being mute and it was all silence till we finally arrived at the house.
We both went into our rooms and I had a quick shower because of the drink Isabella poured on me.
“I can’t believe people still do that. I mean why on earth would you go after your ex when it’s clear he’s moved on and now with someone else? I would never do that no matter how much I love the man.” I said to myself while I stood before the mirror, checking myself out.
“Well, I’m going to take it as a compliment though. I’m choosing to see the good in this. People often say that exes only get jealous when their ex gets someone better than them. They feel inferior so instead of letting Isabella’s words get to me. I choose to believe that got jealous seeing that I’m better than her in every aspect.” I continued and then smiled at the last part.
Of course, I’m beautiful. I don’t need anyone to tell me, I know. I see my face and body everyday and I’m always thankful to God for taking his time to make me so beautiful.
It’s not my fault if anyone feels threatened by my beauty, I’m not going to stop being me and if it hurts her so much, she can do her worst.
That was the last thought on my mind before I went to bed and maybe I shouldn’t have said that.
It was as if she read my heart and decided to do just exactly that.
I woke up the next morning to a leaked video circulating everywhere online.
“Again!” I exclaimed when I got the news over the phone.
I quickly ended the call and checked. Just as Jenna said, it was a video of Daniel and I, and though that seemed like nothing. It was actually the worst!
