Chapter 38: The Important Conversations
As soon as that happened, Xavier joined our lips. “Scarlet Walker, do you prefer the hyphen in the surname or do you want it to be completely Valencian?” he said between his kisses.
“Xavier…” I whispered as I kissed him back — for some reason.
“Yeah, woman?” He said slowly.
“This is so complicated.”
“It won’t be,” He stopped kissing me but didn’t back off. His mouth was centimetres away from mine, his hot breath lingering over my lips. “No one can hurt you if I am here.”
“I know.”
He kissed me again to which I passionately responded. After a while, he backed away with a smile on his face. “You’re unlucky we aren’t at home.”
I shook my head and chuckled. “It is good. We need to have important conversations.”
“Like?”
“Jazelle sent me an invite earlier,” I said as I remembered the reminder email I checked a few hours earlier. “Her wedding’s taking place in Cancun, Mexico in three days!”
“So is that your favorite marriage destination?” He asked as he picked up his phone. I looked at him with confusion as he looked at me after a minute with a smile. “I have a really exquisite resort and church set out in the same city. We could—”
“Wai—Wait. Where are you taking this? Oh God. I was saying something else!”
“Oh, were you? I can’t think of anything else other than marrying you. Guess it’s just me.”
I gave him a glare and he chuckled. “Yeah, so do you want to attend her wedding?”
“Definitely. I just have to make sure that you’re coming?”
“Well,” He sighed. “There is a lot of work left around here.”
“I know, but—but I was planning to talk to Mr. Cooper for you. It would be disrespectful if you didn’t come along. Moreover, I would really want you to.”
He smirked at me. “And what could be the reason for that?”
“Totally nothing!”
He chuckled. “You’re cute, without trying.”
“So?” I ignored him and asked with a smile.
“Fine, we will leave tomorrow night.” He gave me a small smile and responded.
I smiled more and he shook his head, the smile still evident on his face.
“Drew must be coming house any minute now,” He looked at his wristwatch and told me.
“Oh, I should pick him—”
“The driver will pick him up, Scarlett. But since all the work is done here, you could go home and take care of him. I will return when I can.”
I nodded. As I was about to leave, he added: “Also, two of my men’s cars will follow you to the house. You don’t need to be scared of anyone, okay?”
“Yeah, I know.”
“Good.”
I gave him a quick smile and left.

As I reached the “mansion”, I stepped inside and looked around for Drew. One of the maids walked over and asked me for water.
“No, thanks, but have you seen Andrew around?”
Her face lit up on that question. “Oh why, yes. He just returned from his school ten minutes ago. You can find him in his room upstairs, just to the right of yours!”
I nodded with a smile. I guess my room was the one next to his, because yesterday we were in his room and I hadn’t yet seen mine.
When I went inside his room, he was sitting on the table and studying. I walked over and he looked up at me with a huge grin on his innocent face. “Mommy!”
“Drew!” I replied in a similar voice and hugged him.
“Mommy, I like my new school. No one teases me at all and teachers are so good to me!” He said and I sighed in relief. Even though I disagreed with Xavier earlier, it seemed as if he wasn’t that wrong after all. It was still my wish for him to study among normal kids but I guess bullying isn’t the best option either.
“Well, you can thank your uncle Xavier for that,” I replied — even though it was strange to add such a prefix to his father’s name.
His smile was persistent as he nodded and then continued working. I saw that they were already teaching the alphabet and words to him. It felt like he was growing up so fast already.
I left his room and then walked downstairs. “When does Xavier return normally?” I asked one of the maids.
“After we leave, mostly. We leave by 10 pm and boss rarely returns before that.”
I nodded hesitantly. I wasn’t waiting for him — but what could he do so late? Is he that hardworking?
It was hard to believe that.
“Well, I should pack for Jazelle’s wedding,” I thought to myself and finally went to my room to have a look around.

I opened the door and was taken aback by the beauty of the room. It was white and pink themed, two of my most favorite colors. The bed was beautifully made — like a Disney dream… and without the drama!
“Woah,” I exhaled as I walked inside and the door closed on its own. I turned back and then sighed, looking around.
My gaze fell upon a walk-in closet and I couldn’t resist the urge to…walk in. So, I hurried towards the right side of the room to see if there were any dresses.
As I turned on the light of the closet, my eyes widened. There were at least fifty dresses — all lined up, neat and clean. Some of them were my dream dresses — the ones I couldn’t afford but have wanted for so long. Man, I want to know who chose these dresses! We could be best-fucking-friends!
Suddenly I got a notification on my phone. With a smile on my face, I picked my phone up and looked at the screen — only for the smile to disappear.
