Chapter 16: Chapter Sixteen
I breathe deeply and turn to walk further into the room. "Loretta, don't worry you can talk in my room," My doctor says from somewhere behind us. "Like he has a choice" Nate mumbles as he pushes me into the room. When we reach the center of the room I jump slightly at the loud bang of the door as Nate kicks it closed before stalking his way to meet me in the middle.
"Why didn't you tell me?" he asks standing just before me. the intense gaze he has on me leaves me to just stand there like an idiot, a heat surrounds my body as he waits for my answer.
I take a deep breath and sit on the chair in the room that my mum was sitting on previously, parts of me think that they told Nate I was here after hearing my results. This is not the way I wanted him to find out. I had hoped that I would have the chance to tell him myself.
"I wanted to know first but I was going to tell..." I start to explain to him in a rush, but my words were cut off when he kneels down to come in level with me. "Cut the bullshit. When were you ever going to tell me, Loretta? Hell, after last night I'm sure that was the perfect time to tell me."
I peer behind him to check if anyone was going to come in, his voice raises higher with each word.
"Lower your voice Nate. We are not in your apartment. People can hear you," I snap at him because frankly, I don't want people hearing us argue, especially in a hospital.
He glares at me "Believe me if we were in my apartment my voice wouldn't be the loudest." I blush at his comment since I know exactly what he means by that.
"I'm not angry at you but I am frustrated that you wouldn't tell me this. This isn't just you anymore. We are together. I intend to keep it that way. We have to become a partnership, which means you need to talk to me about anything." He lowers his voice significantly and grabs a hold of my chin.
"But you want children," I say removing his hold on me. "What if I can't give you that?" I look down avoiding his eyes at every opportunity.
"No, Loretta, I want you and if children come into the picture, then great, but if you thought for one second, I would just get up and leave then you're wrong, understand?" He grabs my chin again pushing it up with his fingers.
My eyes connect with his and I have no other choice but to look into his deep brown eyes.
"I'm scared Nate what if we can't have a family, what does that mean for us," I say my voice just above a whisper.
He surprises me by pulling me closer and wrapping his arms around my body in a tight embrace. I just enjoy the feeling of his body connected with mine and rest my face on his shoulder.
"We will get through this together," he says pulling back to look at me again, I agree with him by nodding my head and finally placing my lips on his and kissing him.
The kiss was soft and gentle. I expected a rougher kiss with more urgency, but this was better at calming me down. I tugged on his tie and deepened the kiss.
We finally pulled away for each other. My hand smoothed down his shirt and tie.
"What exactly made you think I wouldn't want to be with you Loretta" Nate drives us back to the city, after scheduling a meeting with my doctor for another time.
"I just thought that you would want kids and if I couldn't give that to you then" I muttered trying to find the next words that would sit well with this conversation.
"You thought I would just pick up and go is that it" Nate's fingers wrap around the steering wheel tightly I could even see his jaw tense up as he says this.
"What kind of man do you think I am Loretta for the time we've known each other I would have thought you knew what I'd do for you to just have you here with me "I just keep lips shut, I'm more than sure that if I keep talking, I'm going to regret it.
Nate finally pulls up to my house and he switches off the engine.
"Loretta please look at me" Nate's voice stops me as I begin to reach for the door in attempts to avoid his strong gaze.
I turn my head to face him, and my eyes soften when they see the tired eyes of Nate. I reach out and place my hand over his chest whilst my other hand unfolds the collar of his shirt. All that can be heard is both of our heavy breaths inside the tight space of his car.
"I love you,” I say before he could get another word in. Hopefully, it will unravel the tension we have travelling between us.
Nate breaks into a genuine smile and places his hand over mine "I love you too Loretta" he says with a quick chuckle at my attempt to ease the emotions I'm having within me at this moment.
After kissing Nate goodbye, I reach for the door and finally step out of the car. I turned to send Nate another smile in reassurance, but I was surprised to see him walking out of the car bringing along his keys and phone.
I hadn't expected us to be spending another night together and I was under the impression that he needed to go back to work.
Shit, He was supposed to be in Belfast for meetings, wasn't he?
"What are you doing? I can't believe you're even here you are supposed to be in Belfast, what about your meetings" I asked him.
"Meetings don't happen when I'm not present, I rescheduled them," he says casually, leaning against the car leisurely.
My eyes widen.
"But they're with important people, surely, they won't hang around, won't they just move onto someone else. "Nate just shakes his head, a smirk showing on his mouth.
"Firstly, you're more important than any of my clients Loretta be sure of that and besides I'm not bothered if they really want business with me then they can wait weeks, let alone a day or two. "
" If you say so" I mutter pulling out the key that was hidden deep within my bag.
The door opens and we both steps inside. I busy myself with switching on some of the lights and removing my jacket.
As I started to get rid of my uncomfortable shoes, I noticed Nate run out to his car before returning with an overnight bag. I wouldn't have thought too much into it since it was usual for us to spend nights together. But that was until he started to remove clothes from the bag that wasn't fit for a night on the sofa.
"What's happening? Why have you got those clothes?" I asked, completely confused. "We don't have any plans," I said.
"We didn't but I made some," he says standing up and walking towards me.
And when was he going to tell me.
"I think you need to get changed into something more suitable for our date tonight," Nate says as he reaches the first button on my jeans and quickly pops it open and moves the zip down.
His hand moves inside to cover my mound as he kisses me on my lips, neck and chest since I already had unbuttoned the first buttons on my shirt. Thinking that I was going to pull on a hoodie and shorts for the rest of the day.
"Nate, I thought we were going out we can't do this now,” I say pulling back so his lips detach from mine. I struggle to keep my composure as his tongue snakes out to lick his lips.
"I'm just helping you get undressed and we can go out after you're ready," he says before lifting my chin and kissing my throat and running lips down to my chest again. "This isn't—" I try to speak but Nate pulls at my shirt, completely removing it from my body.
Just when I'm about to reach for the belt on his hips he turns me around securing my arms behind my back.
I can feel his lips at my ear sending shivers through my body. "Go get ready Loretta," he whispers before pushing me in the direction of my room. I gasp as I realized what he had done.
The little bastard, getting me hot and bothered to just leave me hanging like that.
"Fuck you!" I shout as I slam the door to my room closed with a loud bang. As I step into the shower I'm completely pissed off when all I can hear is his deep chuckle from next door. Did my walls seriously have to be so thin?
I probably had the angriest shower I've ever endured. Tonight, better be worth it if he wants to touch me like that again. Sexual frustrating can be very dangerous.
When I'm finally done with mentally planning my boyfriend's death I step out into my room and search through my wardrobe looking for something to wear.
Nate came in saying that where we were going, we needed to be smart and casual. He refused to clarify to me, where exactly we were going but I decided to let Nate have his fun in surprising me.
He walked out quickly after realizing that I wasn't going to speak to him until I was ready. But serves him right for doing what he did to me earlier.
As I pulled on a pair of my favorite skinny jeans, I heard a soft knock on my bedroom door.
"I don't want to hurry you but we're going to be late "
I sighed as I looked at myself in the mirror. I wouldn't have time to straighten my hair. "Well if you told where we were going and what time we needed to be there then we wouldn't have this problem!" I shout back louder than him. Because I'm immature like that.
To Nate's dismay I, was ready in the next 30 minutes because a conversation with my mother took about 15 minutes which meant there was less time for me to get ready and become the masterpiece that I am.
When I stepped out of the room Nate's eyes snap to mine. He's changed into slightly more relaxed clothing from his normal suit attire which he wears for work.
"Try not to stare darling," he says walking up to me. I can't help it can I. All he has to do is become ugly then I'll stop staring at him.
"Let's go before I change my mind." I make my way towards the main door with a mumbling Nate walking behind me. I didn't have the effort to try and understand what he was saying.
"Why are you blindfolding me, Nate? You're wasting time." I swat his hand away from me as he tries to out a piece of cloth over my eyes.
"Do you get the fact that it's a surprise meaning this" he holds up his hands "is going on whether you like it or not" even with my struggle he managed to block my sight with the stupid cloth he grabbed from one of my cupboards.
"You didn't have to be so rough with it," I sulk back into the passenger seat; my eyes itch slightly from the material but it's bearable.
"You never complained before." I didn't have to see to know he's smirking as he drives us to our mystery destination.
"And you call me violent," he says as he receives a hard smack to the shoulder by me of course.
About half an hour later we had slowed down a significant amount and I could actually hear a lot of sound coming from outside the car.
"Can I remove it now?" I ask him. I turn my head to look at him, but I receive just boring old silence.
"Nate, are you there hello?" I call out, reaching out. Hopefully he hasn't jumped out of the car and left me to defend for myself.
"I'm here I'm here." I can feel his fingers on the side of my face. Suddenly the cloth is lifted from my eyes and now I'm able to actually see what is going on. When my eyes finally adjust, I look both left and right and am momentarily shocked at where we are.
On one side, I can see crowds of people standing on each side of a red carpet that leads up to a building. and to my left, I find a line of guards standing with stern expressions and stiff bodies.
My eyes zero in on the sign. The Greatest talent.
That's a talent show that gets broadcasted online. It's the newest version of all the major talent shows.
"I didn't think I was going to make it because of the meetings today but it worked out in Thomas's favor," Nate said as he locked the car after retrieving my bag from the back seat.
Thomas was auditioning. How was I not informed about this? "Don't be mad but Thomas didn't want you here in case he didn't get through," Nate explains to me, obviously noticing my cross expression.
Of course, I'm going to be mad but that could wait for later.
"But yet you brought me here," I said crossing my arms. Surely Thomas is not going to be happy that Nate went against his wishes. Nate slid his arm around my waist. "He doesn't think it, but he needs you here."
I am seriously going to pinch those little cheeks of his, hard.
Whatever happens today, it won't matter because he is still young and has so many chances to reach his dreams of being an artist. He would have the full support of both me and Nate whether he wanted it or not.
We may not have our own child, but Thomas is the closest thing we will have at this moment.
I grab onto Nate's hand as we make our way inside.
"Are you ready for this Amore" Nate whispers as we walk up and meet the cameras and reporters. My initial annoyance with Nate was gone and all I could do was smile gratefully at Nate.
"Always, as long as it's with you," I whispered, gently leaning up and kissing his lips. In that moment I didn't care who got our picture. I wanted Nate to know I meant it.
His cocky smirk was enough to have me practically skipping inside the venue.
