Chapter 37

Jason POV

Where is this woman? I have been searching for her for the past hour.

She is nowhere to be seen. I know she doesn't know that many places here yet so there are not a lot of places that I can search.

I drive past a park. One I haven't seen with the previous drive-by.

I know that Emily loves parks. She always finds solace in parks.

She told me that she and her family went to the park every Sunday. They had picnics and just hung out.

Walking through the park there came a peacefulness upon me.

I had never seen the point of just sitting in a park. I didn't go to a park when I was younger. I thought it is boring, but now I understand why people do it. It cleanses the soul. What the hell is wrong with me? This is no time to think about anything. I need to find Emily. She could be in danger.

I see an older couple sitting on the bench. If Emily was here perhaps they have seen her. Even if they didn't, there is no harm in asking.

I approach them. " Hi, I am so sorry to bother you, but I was wondering if you have seen this woman around here?" I take out my phone and search for a photo of Emily. I hand it to the lady. She looks at the photo and then at me in disgust. What the hell is this lady's problem?

"You must be the jerk that made that poor girl cry. You missed her for almost half an hour. She went home already." The woman handed my phone back to me and turned around. I quickly thank them and made my way back to my car.

As I walk away I hear the husband scolding his wife for the way she treated me. She fired back that horrible men need to be told what they did wrong. This lady doesn't even know me, how can she think I am a horrible person. I have this horrible pit in my stomach. Why was Emily crying?

All I did was tell her how I feel. What is wrong with that?

I get into my car just as my phone rings. I take it out and see that it was my employee. I really should learn the people's names.

"Hey, boss. I just want to let you know that Emily arrived home about 15 minutes ago."

"Can you please give her the phone?"

"I am sorry I can't. I left as soon as she came home. I am currently in a taxi on my way home."

I thank her and dropped the call. Couldn't she call me once Emily walked into the house? Why wait until she was almost home.

I made it to the house in record time. I think I will get tickets in the mail. I will worry about it once it happens.

I knock on the door, but there was no answer. I took the key out of my pocket and walk in. I am thankful that I insisted on a key for the house. I told Emily that I will only use the key in emergencies. Well, I guess this counts as an emergency.

The house is quiet. Too quiet for my liking. I look up at the clock and see that it is time for Madi to go to bed. She is usually loud when she had to go to sleep.

I walk around and look through the house, but there was no one. The closets were open and all their clothes were missing.

Why the hell did she leave?

I remember the tracker that I put in her phone. I quickly check it and see that the phone is in the middle of now where.

I got back in the car and followed the tracker. I hope she isn't stranded next to the highway. I told her not to buy that crappy second-hand car.

I looked around but saw no car. I followed the tracker and see the phone just lying there on the side of the road.

My heart jumped out of my chest. She just left me. With no way to contact her.

Emily POV

I stop and the ATM and get as much cash as I can withdraw. I don't want to leave any evidence, so I broke the card and dropped it into the trash can.

I have nowhere to go. I don't even know where I want to go.

All I know is that I am done with the Turner brothers. I hope I never see them again.

I start driving. I do not know where I am going I only know that I will know when I get there.

I drive through the night only stopping to go to the bathroom and to top up the gas.

I bought me and Madi some snacks at the gas station.

I finally stop in Nevada.

It is nine hours away from Jason. That is far enough for now. I will leave as soon as I know that he found me.

I will start my new life here.

It is small. I don't think they will look for me here.
