Chapter 170

Chapter 170

"Whether it's simple or not depends on whether you have what it takes to deal with him." Soren said with a cold snort.

The man slowly raised his hand. "Don't underestimate us. Taking down a William and a Fenrir? That's easy enough."

"I'm not underestimating you. You're just the only ones I could find who aren't afraid to die." Soren laughed coldly. "I hope you can keep that smile on your face when the time comes."

The man held out his hand. "I'd suggest handing over the deposit first. Otherwise, none of us are going to feel very motivated."

"Already got it ready for you." Soren pulled a case out from under the table and opened it, revealing bundles of cash inside. "Go ahead and count it."

"No need. I trust you." The man stood up, took the cash, and walked out.

"You lot, follow them. Make sure the job gets done. If they fail, take them all out and leave no loose ends."

As Soren finished speaking, several figures stepped out of the shadows and fell into step behind them.

Outside, the man from earlier sensed the tail and grinned. "Surprising. Does Soren really have that little faith in us?"

"Boss, should we just kill those guys? They're getting on my nerves anyway." One of his men said to Clifton.

Clifton Farley kept walking and waved it off. "Leave them. They might come in handy, and we don't want to make a bad impression on the client."

"You say that with a straight face? We're the Blood Reaper Mercenaries. We've got a reputation to uphold." The man burst out laughing.

Clifton opened the car door and sat in the passenger seat. "Have you tracked down William's location?"

"Word is he's at the Starlight Hotel."

"Then let's head straight there."

"Got it." The driver hit the gas and headed for the destination.

About fifteen minutes later, outside the Starlight Hotel.

After getting out of the car, Clifton looked up at the hotel. "This place is huge. Way bigger than anywhere I've stayed before."

"The places we usually end up in are nothing compared to this. One night here and I'd feel like a new man." One of his men laughed.

Clifton waved his hand. "Lock down the target's location. We move now."

"Yes, sir."

Meanwhile, on William's end.

"Didn't expect him to be this weak. Went down in just a few hits." William wiped the blood off his face and headed for the door.

He had just reached the elevator when the doors slid open. William's brow furrowed instinctively.

Clifton glanced at the photo in his hand, then looked at the man standing in front of him, and raised a hand in greeting. "Hey there. You must be William?"

"Who are you?" William asked, narrowing his eyes.

"Me? Just someone hired to kill you." With that, Clifton drove a dagger straight at his throat.

William caught his wrist in an instant and smirked. "That's all you've got? And you think you can kill me?"

"Not bad. No wonder I was told to watch out for you." Clifton smiled and reached for his gun with his left hand.

Before he could fire, William drove a kick into his stomach, sending him stumbling back several steps.

By the time Clifton caught himself, the gun was already pressed against his head.

William said coldly, "The person who hired you — that's Soren, isn't it?"

"You'll have to beat it out of me." Clifton dodged quickly and slipped behind him, pressing the dagger against William's throat. "What have you got to say now?"

"Nothing much. I just wanted to see what you were capable of. Turns out I gave you way too much credit." William let out a tired sigh. He was already bored.

"Your life is in my hands now —" Before Clifton could finish, a sharp pain shot through his arm, and his instinct kicked in.

But his hand wouldn't move. It was completely useless.

"How is this possible?" His arm was broken.

"My turn." William landed a spinning kick to his head, then grabbed him by the throat and slammed him hard to the ground.

Clifton gasped and choked, but with his throat pinned down, even breathing was a struggle.

William's eyes were ice cold. "Tell me. Who sent you?"

"Satan himself, obviously." The moment the words left his mouth, several men came running from behind, guns raised and fingers on the triggers.

"Goodbye."

A rapid burst of gunfire rang out — but the ones who dropped weren't William. It was the hitmen who had been ready to shoot.

"Is this even humanly possible?" Clifton stared in disbelief, eyes wide.

In the span of two breaths, William had emptied his magazine and put every single bullet through their heads.

Where did a shooter like that even come from?

"Your backup is gone. I'll give you one last chance. Either tell me everything you know, or you die right here."

William's grip on his throat tightened, and Clifton felt like he was about to black out.

"Maybe dying here isn't the worst thing." Clifton said. "But I'm tougher than you think." His strength suddenly surged, and he grabbed William's head and tried to smash it into the ground.

But somehow, William's strength was unreal. Pushing him down even an inch felt impossible, let alone getting him to the floor.

"You're a monster." Clifton couldn't help but shout.

Before he could react, his own head was being driven into the wall.

The impact was so violent that he blacked out for a moment.

"You're this weak and you call yourself a mercenary. I really did overestimate you." William sighed, grabbed his head, and kept slamming it into the wall.

Between hits, he asked, "How much did Soren pay you to come after me with your life on the line?"

"Guess." Clifton flipped him off.

William's eyes narrowed. "You want to die." A few more hits and Clifton was out cold.

William didn't bother with him anymore. He tossed him aside and made to leave.

These guys were just hired guns. They didn't know much. Going straight to Soren made more sense.

But as he walked out of the hotel, something felt off.

"Looks like they came prepared." William scanned the crowd closing in around him and spoke calmly. "Your boss is already dealt with. Is there any point in carrying on?"

"Doesn't matter if he's dead or not. We'll just pick a new one."

"But if you die here, we all get paid very well."
