Help me
Hera POV
I lean in close and what I hear makes my blood run cold.
Lily is sobbing from the other side of the phone, her voice terrified and desperate.
"Daddy? Help me," Lily's voice whimpers through the speaker.
A video pops up and Mason clicks on it immediately. Lily's tear stained face appears. She is tied up on a chair. My heart squeezes at the sight of her desperate weak struggles as she calls out for her father.
"Lily! Baby, where are you? Daddy's coming!" Mason's voice is raw and it breaks with every word.
He grips the phone so hard I think it might crack. I can feel the helplessness radiating off him and that anger he is trying to hide yet I know it's simmering deep insíde him.
When the camera shifts, the face that fills the screen has my insides churning with so much anger and disgust.
Helena—the woman from Mason club and Finn's associate.
I should have known she would try something like this but the fact that she is a mother, I hoped she wouldn't.
Her smile is cold and triumphant. "Hello, Viper," she says, her voice dripping with venom. "It's been a while. Miss me?"
I sneer, rage boiling up inside me.
"So you've finally shown your true colors huh, Helena," I snap, my fists clenching. She has played the role of the club mistress and managed to fool everyone. I can't understand something though. Why would she betray Mason? Why would she betray Shadow Riders? Her daughter is part of the same club. It doesn't make any sense unless she has plans of taking over.
Helena laughs. It's a chilling sound filled with so much hatred and mockery.
"Oh, Hera. You are always so quick to judge. But you're right, this is who I am.” She says with a chuckle.
“ I know for a fact you already knew about me working with Finn.” She adds.
I can feel Mason's eyes on me and when I turn to face him, the look on his face shatters me.
I look away immediately, unable to meet his gaze. I knew about Helena's betrayal and kept it from him. Perhaps if I told him the truth, we wouldn't be here. Lily wouldn't have been taken away.
“ You knew?” Mason asks, his voice barely audible.
Before I can explain myself, Helena bursts out laughing in amusement.
“ Oh dear. So your old lady didn't tell you about it? It seems your relationship isn't that great after all.” Helena mocks.
“ Shut the fuck up bitch!” The words leave my mouth before I can stop myself.
She is fanning flames, probably after seeing me and Mason fallout then use that to her advantage.
Helena giggles as if my frustration feeds her humour.
“ If I shut up, your dearest stepdaughter will have to follow the same path, yeah? Is that what you want?”
She pans the camera back to Lily who whimpers again. "If you want her back alive, you'll do exactly what I say." She orders.
Mason's face is a storm of emotions. I see fear, anger and heartbreak. "Don't you dare hurt her, Helena! What do you want?" Mason roars, his voice shaking.
I place a hand on his back trying to ground him. My own mind is racing trying to come out with a plan to get Lily out of that mess.
We need a plan, fast but emotions flood me.
The guilt for not seeing this sooner slams into me like a tidal wave.
"We are not playing your games," I say firmly, though my heart aches.
“ Let go of Lily at once. She is just a young child.”
“ Indeed. She is a young child but also the most important thing to Mason so she is useful to me.”
Helena's eyes gleam.
“ I can't believe I have you, the infamous Viper at my mercy. Do what I want or you can kiss goodbye to your daughter. I don't mind sending her after… She trails off, smirking.
Mason growls, "You won't get away with this." However,I can see the panic in his eyes. Lily's sobs echo in my ears, tearing at me.
As Helena keeps taunting us, I feel a surge of determination. We will save Lily. No matter what. This isn't over.
The screen flickers and Helena leans in closer. "Tick-tock, Mason. Come find us if you can." Then the line goes dead, leaving us in silence.
Mason drops the phone and his shoulders slump.
"Hera... what do we do?" His voice is broken and his eyes filled with tears he won't let fall.
I pull him into a hug, my own eyes stinging. "We fight. We will get her back." I assure him. Deep down, fear grips me but I push it down.
I do it for him and for Lily.
I grab my phone and make a call to Raven.
“ Is everything alright?” She asks immediately she picks up.
“ Not really. Did you do what I asked you?” I inquire.
“ I have her drugged. Hera, isn't this too much?” Raven asks and I snicker.
“ I don't have anything against her but her mother had the audacity to kidnap Lily and threaten us with her life. She should blame herself for what's coming.” I reply.
“ Fiona's mother?” Raven repeats and that's when I realize they don't know that Fiona is Helena's daughter. She thought she had everything covered. Too bad for her.
“ Just send the pictures and videos I asked for. I'll take care of the rest. Just keep her safe.” I instruct.
When the call ends, Mason gives me a sceptical look.
“ What?” I snap, looking away.
“ What are you cooking right now?” He asks and I manage a weak smile.
“ I am not cooking anything. I am just doing everything to save my daughter. I won't let anyone lay their hands on my Princess.” I declare.
“ Your daughter?” Mason repeats, an unsure look plastered all over his face.
“ Lily is my daughter as much as she is yours. If Helena thinks she can use her to threaten me, I'll use Fiona to get my daughter back.”
