Chapter 207: The Grayson Family

Cecilia thought she couldn't escape, but at the critical moment, someone caught the blade in the thug's hand with their bare hands.

The expected pain didn't come. She suddenly opened her eyes to see a handsome face locked in a struggle with the criminal.

Gavin had actually come.

Cecilia saw blood flowing from his hand gripping the dagger. When the thug tried to kick him, she found strength from somewhere, suddenly jumped up, and rammed her head into the criminal.

The thug stumbled from the unexpected blow. Gavin seized the opportunity to kick him, knocking him to the ground. He grabbed the dagger from the man's hand, straddled him, twisted his arm behind his back, and subdued him.

Seeing the danger was over, Cecilia finally collapsed on the ground, drained of energy. Through blurry vision, she saw a familiar figure running toward her.

Before losing consciousness, she heard two voices calling her name.

When she opened her eyes again, Cecilia immediately recognized she was in a hospital.

A bitter smile crossed her face—in just six months, she'd become quite familiar with hospital ceilings.

"Cecilia, you're finally awake!" Sophie's delighted voice rang out, then she rushed toward the door. "She's awake, Cecilia's awake!"

Almost the next second, Cecilia saw Ethan's face. Tears instantly streamed down her cheeks.

Ethan rushed to her side and bent down to hug her. "Don't cry, don't be afraid, it's over now!"

It took Cecilia a while to stop crying. She wiped her tears and asked, "Who was it?"

Sophie chimed in from the side, "The leader got away. The other three were hired hands who claim they don't know anything!"

Cecilia thought back and mentioned some details. "That man had one eye, and the letters GS tattooed on his wrist!"

Ethan's expression darkened, his handsome brows furrowing.

"You know who it is?" Cecilia noticed his expression and asked.

"I have a pretty good idea, but I need to confirm it!" At this point, Ethan felt there was no need to hide anything.

Cecilia wanted to ask more, but Ethan stood up. "Rest well, I need to step out for a bit!"

After he left, Cecilia turned to Sophie. "Who noticed I was missing?"

Sophie pulled up a chair and sat beside her, explaining what had happened.

It turned out it really was the kindergarten. When they couldn't reach Cecilia, they called Sophie's phone. Sophie sensed something was wrong and contacted Ethan.

Ethan had someone track her car's location. When they found the car with its window smashed, he suspected something had happened and called the police.

"Where's Molly?"

Sophie quickly reassured her, "At home. Gavin and my assistant are both there, don't worry!"

Hearing Gavin's name, Cecilia suddenly remembered him blocking the knife for her.

"Is Gavin's hand okay?"

Sophie shook her head. "Just a surface wound. After bringing you to the hospital, he got it bandaged. He left after learning you were fine."

"Did he say anything?"

Cecilia's question was a bit strange.

But Sophie understood her—she generally didn't ask meaningless questions.

"What do you mean?"

In front of Sophie, Cecilia didn't plan to hide anything. She told her openly, "I think Gavin is a bit strange! He seems to know me!"

"Want me to look into him?" Sophie suggested.

Though he was someone Ethan had sent, Cecilia nodded firmly. "Yes, the more detailed the better!"

After they talked for a while, Ethan walked in. Cecilia looked at him and said, "I want to go home."

Ethan didn't object. He had his assistant call the doctor. After a thorough examination confirmed they were only surface wounds, the doctor said there were no major problems—she just needed to keep the wounds dry.

By the time everyone packed up and returned to Golden Haven, it was past 4 AM.

Sophie saw her assistant resting with Molly in the room, so she didn't wake them and went home to catch up on sleep.

When Cecilia came out of Molly's room, tears were streaming down her face. Seeing this, Ethan pulled her into his arms with heartache. "Are you okay?"

She leaned against him, took a moment to collect herself, then said, "I want to take a shower!"

"Okay, I'll help you!"

Cecilia refused. "No need, I can do it myself!"

Ethan was worried, but couldn't argue with her insistence. He could only remind her, "Be careful not to get your face wet!"

After she showered and came out in her pajamas, Ethan sat up, took a clean towel, and helped dry her hair. He considerately asked, "Are you tired? Want to close your eyes and rest?"

Cecilia shook her head. After such a harrowing experience, she couldn't sleep at all. Every time she closed her eyes, she saw darkness and the gleaming dagger.

"What do you want to ask me?"

"What do you want to ask me?"

They both spoke almost simultaneously.

Cecilia smiled bitterly and said, "You go first!"

Ethan looked into her eyes and asked coldly, "You went to see my mother today?"

"Yes, I did!" Cecilia answered honestly.

Since he'd already tracked her movements, he already knew. There was no point in lying.

"It probably wasn't her. She's very smart!" Cecilia voiced her thoughts.

Ethan didn't respond, just had her lie on his lap while he continued drying her hair.

After a moment of silence, Ethan asked, "What did you want to ask me?"

Cecilia fell silent for a moment.

She'd actually wanted to ask about Gavin, but now she changed the question. "At the hospital, what did you confirm?"

Ethan's hand with the towel paused. His beautiful eyes gazed at Cecilia's face. "Those people might be from the Grayson Family in Rosefield City!"

The Grayson Family?

Cecilia searched her mind and suddenly sat up, but the sudden movement pulled at her wounds, making her gasp in pain.

"Lie still and don't move!" Ethan frowned in displeasure.

How could Cecilia lie still? She wanted to jump up right now.

"You mean that Grayson Family on the global rankings?"

Ethan nodded. "Yes, GS is the mark of the Grayson Family's servants."

"But I have no grudge against them. Why would they send people to harm me?" Cecilia felt her brain couldn't keep up.

She'd just been threatened by the Campbell Family, and now a Grayson Family had appeared.

Cecilia noticed Ethan's deep yet strange gaze on her again, which reminded her of the Stella that Jasmine had mentioned.

Could it be that Stella knew about her relationship with Ethan and sent people to get rid of her?

But if Stella really was from the Grayson Family, wouldn't a marriage alliance between the Campbell Family and the Grayson Family be perfect? Why wouldn't they agree to let them be together, and instead have Ethan choose the adopted daughter Aurora?

"Why won't you answer?" She couldn't help but demand sharply.
