Chapter 209: Defamation Lawsuit

When Theodore saw Aunt Abigail's scandal on the social media, he was beyond shocked. He quickly called his uncle and said, "Uncle Timothy, have you seen what is written on the social media about Aunt Abigail?" Uncle Timothy replied, "Yes, Rosemary fetched Abigail's father to teach her a lesson. Also, she arranged for the reporters to interview her stepmother." Theodore was dumbfounded and asked, "How did she find out about their existence?" Uncle Timothy smiled and replied, "Rosemary investigated Abigail through my friend, Rich. I allowed him to provide information to Rosemary because I wanted to see what she would do with it. Now, it is time for her to face the consequences. I want to see how Emmanuel will protect his wife, Abigail, first before I make my move." Theodore was so shocked Rosemary was ruthless but he was relieved to hear his uncle's words. "Uncle Timothy, in honestly speaking, I don't have any faith in Mr Johnson. He is too soft-hearted." Uncle Timothy laughed and replied, "Theodore, don't underestimate Emmanuel he will surprise you. He is a good man and he loves Abigail so much. I don't see him stand-by and do nothing. Give him time and I am sure he will give you a call soon." Theodore wasn't convinced but he trusted his uncle's words. He knew how important Aunt Abigail was to his uncle hence he wanted to take this matter in his hands. Then they hung up the phone.

When Mr Johnson and his wife, Abigail arrived home, Butler Ed opened the door for them. He was shocked when he saw Mrs Johnson's face but he was scared to ask. Mr Johnson asked him to cook his wife's favorite food for lunch. Then he walked to their bedroom with his wife in his arms and put her in their bed. He looked at her lovingly and said, "Please bear with me, my love. I know that you are in pain, but this ointment will help you to relieve the pain and swelling." Then he applied the ointment to her face very gentle. Abigail smiled sweetly at her husband and thanked him. She was exhausted emotionally and physically, she fell asleep very quickly. Emmanuel was blaming himself for bringing pain to his lovely wife.

He got off the bed and went to his study room to call his lawyer, Mr Cole. When the call had connected he said, "Hello Mr Cole, I need your help. Is it possible to come to my house?" Mr Cole was sitting in his office waiting for Mr Johnson's call. He agreed, and then he went to Mr Johnson's house. Mr Johnson took him to his study room and said, "Mr Cole, thank you for coming on such short notice. I believe you have seen the news on social media. I want to sue my ex-wife for defamation of character. She is no longer Mrs Johnson but she is still using my name. My ex-wife's behavior caused my wife and me emotional distress and financial loss. It also caused harm to our personal and professional reputation. My wife lost the cooperation of ten billion rand with the Sun Group. Her company's stock price dropped by 15% an hour ago and my company's stock price dropped by 10%. Also, I want you to issue lawyer's letters to those people on social media who are rude to my wife. When my wife is awake I will send you our marriage certificate and my divorce decree." Mr Cole looked at Mr Johnson and said, "Mr Johnson, I was so surprised when I saw the news on the social media. Your ex-wife surprised me; I never thought that she would do this to you. It shows that the human heart is a mystery. However, I am glad that you are not soft-hearted towards your ex-wife. I don't know if she is aware of the damage she has caused. Mr Johnson, allow me to rush to court to file the defamation lawsuit." Mr Johnson shook Mr Cole's hand then he sent him off. He walked back to their bedroom to join his wife. He held her in his arms and looked at her swollen face. His heart ached when he saw bruises on his wife's beautiful face. He received a message from Victoria asking him to be strong for Aunt Abigail.

After the Gates couple finished their interviews they went to Mrs Johnson's car. They were in heavy spirits, especially Mrs Gates. She felt that Mrs Johnson hidden the truth about Abigail's being the company CEO on purpose. She was very angry in her heart but the damage was already done. If she knew beforehand she would not have allowed her husband to attack Abigail. They received a lot of money from Mrs Johnson, but it was not enough since they were living on government grant. Mrs Johnson was very happy because her goal had been achieved. They were quiet on their way home. The Gates couple was very upset; they were cursing themselves in their hearts for trusting a stranger. They were thinking about the lost opportunity to exhort money from Abigail. Who knew that when they chased Abigail from home she became better?

After work, James rushed home to confront his mother. When he arrived home, his mother was sitting in the living room watching television with an elderly couple. He assumed that they were Aunt Abigail's parents. He was so upset he didn't even greet them and said, "Mom, do you understand the damage you did to my father's company? The stock price dropped by 10%, we lost billions of rand. Mom, I told you not to provoke Aunt Abigail, but you didn't listen to me. You went ahead and fetched Aunt Abigail's parents to teach her a lesson. Mom, I am just here to remind you, when my father and Mr Anthony retaliate, don't say that I didn't warn you. What happened to the woman who raised me? I don't know you anymore." Then he walked to the door. Before he opened it, someone knocked at the door. When he opened the door he saw two policemen and the sheriff of the court. "Hello Sir, we are looking for Miss Rosemary Gable, Mr and Mrs Gates." James ushered them inside the house and said, "Mom, these gentlemen are looking for you." Rosemary was so scared she wanted to hide but it was too late. The sheriff of the court approached her and said, "Miss Gable, I am here to serve you with the summons. Mr Johnson filed a defamation lawsuit against you. The matter is sitting the day after tomorrow at 9 am. Please don't be late." Then he gave Rosemary the summons and asked her to sign to acknowledge receipt. Then he served Mr and Mrs Gates their summons as witnesses. After that, they left the house. Mrs Gates looked at Rosemary and asked, "Why did the sheriff of the court address you as Miss Gable? Are you not married to Mr Johnson?" James laughed out loud and replied, "You didn't investigate the matter before you attacked your daughter? You don't deserve her and I am so glad that you cut off ties with her." Then he left the house and went back to his apartment.
