Chapter 73 Framing the Target
Chapter 73 Framing the Target
RONAN'S POV
The drive back home from Leonard's apartment was painfully quiet. Liora's dad and I had parted ways right there the moment Liora shut the door on our faces. My hands tightened around the steering wheel as I angrily made my way back. I reached the pack house and noticed Leonard's car was already parked.
What is he doing here?
I pulled the car to a stop and got down. My eyes carefully scanned everywhere as I made my way indoors. The first person I went to look for was Talia. She was in my room, lying comfortably on my bed.
She looked up, and smiled cheerily.
“Babe…” I didn't hesitate before walking towards her and grabbing her up roughly by her arm. She looked shocked for a moment, the smile draining immediately from her face as it got replaced by a horrified look instead.
“Ronan? What's wrong?”
“Where did you head to before you came here?” I shot at her. She looked lost and confused for a second.
“I came home from school…”
“Stop lying!” I yelled at her, shoving her hard against the wall. She crashed into it, gasping as she struggled to not lose her footing.
“I heard you went to Liora's work place to make a scene,” I said angrily, pinning her with a glare.
“And who told you that?” She asked, her voice having a cold edge to it.
“Liora told me herself, did you or did you not go to her work place?”
“So you actually went to see her again?” She scoffed and held the wall to regain her balance.
“See this is why I'll keep going to meet her, what do you mean by she told you herself? I'm sure she's not just going to take her phone and text you about that if not for the fact that you actually went to see her behind my back.”
“So you think you can control who I choose to see and who I don't?” I asked with a small laugh.
“That's the issue with you Ronan… you're not seeing the fact that she's your past, forget about her, I'm here for you. I don't understand why you keep going back to her, you know you keep hurting me the way you keep running back to her.”
I wanted to tell her I didn't care if she was hurting or not but I kept mute about it. Running my fingers through my hair. I faced her.
“Stay away from Liora, and stop trying to create a scene for no reason.” I turned to leave the room and ask mom about Leonard's presence in the pack.
“What if I don't?” She asked. I paused in my tracks and turned back.
“What did you just say?” I asked as if trying to confirm that my ears were playing tricks on me.
“I said what if I don't leave her alone? You're not willing to forget about her and I just can't wait around and watch you lose your mind because of someone like her.” She said, her voice breaking. I saw red. I didn't hesitate before taking two long strides towards her and hitting her across the face.
She was shocked as if she didn't expect me to do that. I didn't hesitate before glancing around the room looking for something I can throw at her to vent out my anger. I picked up an empty glass of milk and hurled it at her.
She narrowly missed it and she screamed as the glass shattered beside her feet. She tried to run out of the room and I pulled her back by her hair, hurling her back into the wall.
Her head made contact with the wall, the sound loud and deafening as she groaned in pain. She burst into tears as she pleaded. I paid zero heed to her begging. Grabbing the collar of her shirt I sat her upright against the wall and slapped her heavily across her face. She yelped.
“Ronan… what the fuck are you doing?” My mom's voice interrupted me. I ignored her, putting all my focus on Talia until my mom reached for me and forcefully ripped me away from her.
“What the fuck is wrong with you? Why would you be doing something like this in the pack palace grounds?” She asked disappointment and anger clouding her features. Talia stayed on the ground, trying to catch her breath as she wiped the tears away from her eyes.
“I need to have a word with you,” my mom said walking outside immediately. I gave Talia one last glare before walking out after my mom.
“If your dad knew you did something like that don't you know it's going to lower your chances of getting the alpha position?” Diane threw the question at me almost immediately.
“I had to teach her a lesson she wasn't willing to leave Liora alone.” At the mention of Liora's name, my mom looked visibly annoyed.
“What's with you and that bitch anyways? Didn't she threaten to call off the engagement? Why are you still chasing after her?”
“I'm not going to give Leonard the satisfaction of having whatever he feels he can own.” My mom looked at me as if she couldn't understand me and sighed. She glanced around as if making sure no one was around before pulling me after her into her room. She shut the door and turned to face me.
“Mila's body was found earlier today… I gave your dad a few hints. He already summoned Leonard. If things go as planned they'll automatically think he was behind the death of Mila. That's going to give you a greater advantage in the coming selection of the future Alpha if you'll put on a good behavior, I can't keep covering for you,” my mom said with a frown on her face.
“But what if they find out that Leonard wasn't behind her death after all?” I asked, my heart hammering in my chest.
“It's almost impossible, your dad knows he was secretly meeting up with her but anyways refrain from doing anything that can draw attention to you. I can't go through all this trouble just for you to ruin everything because you can't keep your anger in check.” My mom rubbed her temple and I could tell she was thinking about something.
“Since the beta refused to cooperate I think it's high time we go visit some of the elders.” She finally spoke up.
