Chapter 142 Chapter 142: A Quiet Dinner
Chapter 142 Chapter 142: A Quiet Dinner
Senna’s POV
Back in Sector 6, Kalev started making dinner. But our visit to the Sector 7 pack weighed heavily on me. They really didn’t want to come to our sectors? They really liked their pack the way it was?
Maybe they were onto something. Their lives weren’t complicated. They lived off nature. They picked berries and grew vegetables. They hunted meat.
My mind flashed back to my youth. I’d grown up with a bow and arrow in my hands. I’d hunted once too. That was how I’d fed myself. And looking back it now, I realized something…That’s when I had been my happiest. When I was out, alone in nature.
I’d hated it at the estate in the capital. I’d felt caged in, like I couldn’t breathe. The only time I’d really been happy in the capital was when I was in the private forest.
Maybe I belonged somewhere else. Somewhere more like sector 7.
I had never really considered leaving before. It never occurred to me. No one really left. You were born here, you grew up here, and then you died here.
But suddenly, I started to see things differently. There was an entire world out there. There were people living all sorts of different lives. We could do that too. We could leave. We could start over, somewhere else.
“What are you thinking about?” Kalev asked me. I was standing at the window. He came up behind and put his arms around me. He smelled different than he did when I’d had Verity. He smelled like sweat and cologne. I could no longer smell the mate bond. They had been broken when Verity died.
He was making pasta and the scent of the sauce filled the air. It was one of the things I adored about Kalev. He didn’t have maids and chefs anymore to cook for him, but he didn’t seem to care. He was learning how to cook, and how to do laundry, and how to do all the other mundane things.
And he seemed to actually enjoy it, like he took pride in looking after us both.
“Just sector 7,” I told him. I spun around and looked into his eyes. “Maybe they have a point. Maybe some people want a simpler, quieter life.
“Maybe some people like you?” he asked, his voice teasing.
“Would it be that bad?” I asked him. “To live somewhere else? To escape all of this?’
“I don’t know,” he replied. “But I would follow you anywhere.” He leaned in and pressed his lips to mine. His lips were warm and salty. I pulled away.
Kalev and I hadn’t had sex, not since I lost my wolf. I wasn’t sure what it would be like, without our mate bond, and I was a little afraid it would be disappointing.
“Senna,” he said, his voice husky. “Do you know how hard it’s been to keep my hands off of you. I know we’ve been busy and overwhelmed. But I want to touch you.”
His words caused butterflies to swarm in my stomach.
“I know,” I told him. “I’m just…nervous. I don’t have Verity anymore. And we don’t have our mate bond. What if sex is just…meh.”
He took a step back and chuckled. “Just..meh?” he said. “I don’t think that’s possible.”
Then he pulled back to him and kissed me, really kissed me. I parted my mouth for his. I felt the heat of his chest against mine. His hands went up the back of my shirt, looking for my naked skin.
“I’m not going to pressure you,” he said between kisses. “But I want you, wolfless or not.”
That was all it took. I had nothing to be worried about this. This was Kalev, after all. He loved me no matter what.
I gave myself over to him. He lifted me onto the table, sweeping away the dishes. They fell to the floor with a loud clatter. The pasta water was boiling over on the stove. But we didn’t care. We didn’t even notice.
Slowly, teasingly, he unbuttoned my shirt. He took his time. I bit my lip. I’d really missed being with him.
I let it fall from my shoulders. Then I reached around an unclasped my bra. He took one look at my naked breasts and sighed contentedly. Then he brought his mouth down to my breasts and kissed them.
The sensation of his hot lips caused my head to loll backwards. I furled my fingers in his hair as he kissed my breasts, flicking his tongue over my nipples. I felt myself wanting him, craving the feel of him inside of me.
He lowered his head to my stomach. Then he slid his hands up my skirt and pulled down my underwear. His fingers slid over my wetness. I gasped.
His fingers felt unreal. I chastised myself for not doing this sooner. We should have been doing this all day, every day.
“Are you okay?” he asked. “Because we can stop if you want to.”
“Shut up,” I snapped at him, but there was a playfulness in my voice. “I don’t want to stop. Take off your pants and make love to me.”
I wanted him more than I ever had before. Maybe it was because it had been a long time since we’d made love. Maybe it was because I was no longer worried about what it would be like without a wolf. It didn’t matter. All that mattered was that he made love to me, right then and there.
“Here?” he said, unzipping his pants. “On the table.”
“Yes here,” I said. “I don’t want to wait another minute.”
His pants fell off. I wrapped my legs around his waist. I clutched at his back, digging my fingernails into his skin, reaching for him, pulling him towards me.
He entered me in one long, slow thrust. I was in heaven.
Turns out, I had nothing to worry about. Sex with Kalev was as good without our mate bond.
In fact, it was fucking fantastic.
