Chapter 156 A Bit of a Daredevil!
The sponsor glanced at Ethan and was too scared to say a word.
Ethan casually rested his long legs on the railing in front of him, seething with rage.
The sponsor hesitated for a long time, too afraid to approach.
“Crack!”
Ethan crushed the night-vision binoculars he was holding.
He stood up, shot the sponsor a sidelong glance, and asked, "Who was that guy?"
The sponsor looked at the man who had just walked away from Lydia—the man who had been the center of attention.
The sponsor said, "That guy? He’s Miles Donovan, the son of Archer Donovan! The Donovan family’s business is still thriving...”
Ethan let out a cold laugh. "So this kid actually has some connections!"
"But...He’s a bit reckless!”
The sponsor froze.
He rubbed his bald head and stepped back.
St. Island, Seabird Island.
7:36 p.m. local time.
Since the rainy season began, the air was thick with dampness.
Heavy rain poured down.
The golden dome atop the distant church had lost its usual luster and looked gray and hazy, washed by the rain.
"Bang! Bang! Bang!"
Gunfire rang out through the curtain of rain in a cacophony.
The rain pelted the walkie-talkies, producing crackling static.
"Mr. Edwards was right! Chama is still on Seabird Island!"
Baron and Alice waved to signal to their men, then led them forward through the downpour to continue the search.
The wolfhounds on the search team scraped their claws against the ground, making muffled sounds mixed with hurried footsteps.
"Damn it!"
John, one of Chama’s men, wiped the rain from his face.
He raised his submachine gun and fired a few random bursts into the rain, then quickly ducked behind cover.
“Mr. Chama!”
“Why are Ethan’s men still searching? Didn’t you pull off your fake death successfully?”
Chama leaned against the red wall of the resort. He was clad in a raincoat and was soaked to the skin.
He pulled his hat down over his eyes and snorted. “Tell our men to be careful. Don’t show themselves unless they have to.”
John grew impatient. “We can’t keep this up! We used hundreds of disinfectants to neutralize the smell in the sand, but those wolfhounds Ethan trained are just too formidable!"
Another henchman cursed. "That bastard Bowie—I would’ve taken him out before we set foot on the island. Now that he’s left his scent here, Ethan’s wolfhound search team will be able to track us down."
Chama shook the rain off his body, his expression grim.
John glanced at him and added, "Those wolfhounds have also picked up Mr. Chama’s scent. Otherwise, with rain this heavy, those beasts wouldn't have been able to catch up to us..."
At the mention of Bowie, all of Chama’s men gnashed their teeth in fury.
The day Bowie came to see Chama, he was clearly badly injured.
He’d even had a leg amputated and replaced with a prosthetic.
John fired a shot at him.
But Bowie was wearing a bulletproof vest, which explained how he managed to dodge Ethan’s bullets at the railroad black market that day.
Later, he snatched John’s gun and held him hostage the whole way, using him as a shield against Chama’s bullets.
Bowie had jumped into the sea and escaped.
John said, "Mr. Chama, that bastard Bowie is so badly injured. He can't get lucky like this every time. If he doesn't die this time, I'll make sure his wife..."
Chama’s eyelid drooped slightly.
His cloudy eyes narrowed. "Bowie served as an international special forces soldier for six years. He’s good at holding his breath underwater. Send more people, and step up the search, both underwater and on the surface. We must find him, dead or alive.”
John was a little worried. "But it doesn't look like Ethan's men are going to give up easily, does it?"
The mere mention of Ethan gave Chama a headache.
Ethan was relentless, never letting up in his pursuit.
Chama had expected that, by carefully setting up Patrick as a scapegoat to take the fall for him once Bowie was dead, no one would be able to threaten his whereabouts anymore.
Shaking the rain off his face, he mused, "That madman Ethan—it seems he’s figured out that Patrick isn’t the real Chama. Or maybe Bowie double-crossed us long ago and told Ethan something?”
John asked anxiously, "Mr. Chama, aren't you in danger? Ethan could discover us at any moment.”
Chama stared at the gray, misty rain and said grimly, "Any news on Ethan?"
John replied, "Ethan already arrived in Harbor City on his private jet to watch a drift racing event."
“Is that woman there, along with Bowie’s wife?”
“Yes!”
Chama fell silent for a moment, then called over one of his men. “Send a few people to Harbor City…”
Harbor City.
A drift racing event was taking place that evening at Peace Pier.
Miles shot into the first turn like a bolt of lightning in his red, modified Ferrari F8 race car.
The entire crowd erupted with excitement.
It was Lydia’s first time watching such a high-stakes race.
She jumped to her feet and joined the other fans in cheering. “Go, Miles!”
“Miles! Miles!”
"I love you, Miles..."
Miles sharply countersteered, and the car instantly swung back into a sideways drift.
Lydia felt her heart skip a beat.
How could he not roll over doing that?!
Miles raised his hand and smiled at her.
