Chapter 30: Chapter Thirty

Keagan's P.O.V

My eyes widened as I saw Emma, sporting a wide smile. She was entirely dolled up, wearing a stunning purple sleeveless dress with a daring slit that revealed her thighs. She was undeniably attractive, yet it was strange how my stomach twisted in irritation as I looked at her.

"What are you doing here?" I asked her. My brows creased.

The sparkle in her eyes faded. "I received the invitation late, so I decided to come and keep you company, husband. I asked Hector for directions," she said, offering Hector—who had been sitting beside me all this time—a smile. Hector returned the greeting with a stiff nod.

I threw Hector a glare which he intentionally avoided and then I looked back at Sylvia's direction.

I watched Sylvia's gaze sweep across the room, her laughter from a moment ago dying on her lips as soon as she noticed me conversing with Emma. Her eyes, once vibrant and sparkling, had now lost all their fire, and the blood drained from her face. Why?

A strange wave of guilt washed over me, my chest tightening as I saw the strange expression in her eyes.

Haunted and shattered.

But it was only there for a second before a shutter closed over her expression.

What does that even mean?

I shouldn't even feel this way but here I was feeling as though I had been caught cheating.

Her lips pursed into a thin line, and her brows furrowed ever so slightly as she looked away. I could clearly tell her next efforts to talk with the guests were forced.

Emma continued to speak to me, but her voice faded into the background as my attention remained fixed on Sylvia. An overwhelming urge to explain myself, to ease the tension between us, consumed me. But I knew that I couldn't just leave Emma, not without causing another scene.

From the corner of my eyes, I saw Emma frown, and the rest of her words trailed off as she turned to follow my line of sight. Fuck, I looked away quickly, feeling this insane urge to protect Sylvia from Emma. But it was too late.

When Emma saw who I was looking at, she gasped and turned back to me, her eyes wide. My gaze snapped back to her face.

"Oh my goodness! Is that Sylvia Reynolds?" she squealed, and I pursed my lips, shoving both hands into my pockets.

I watched as Emma, without demanding any answers from me, sprinted away toward Sylvia, who had paused her conversation to stare at the approaching woman. My jaw clenched, and I followed her, not wanting her to mess anything up for me.

"Hey, you're Sylvia Reynolds, right?" Emma asked with uncharacteristic enthusiasm, her eyes shining with admiration. Her hand was already outstretched toward Sylvia, but Sylvia gave her a cold look before turning to glance at me.

"Is she your wife?" Sylvia's eyes focused on the diamond ring adorning Emma's finger, and I slowly nodded.

Her lips twisted into a smile, though I couldn't tell if it was one of mockery or disgust. Slowly, she raised her hand and shook Emma's.

"Hi, yes, I am. A pleasure to meet you," Sylvia said, her voice tight. Emma, lost in admiration, shone like a puppy who had seen her favorite treat and eagerly enclosed Sylvia's palm with her other hand.

"It's an absolute honor to meet you. I've been dying to see you in person, and I can't believe you're right in front of me, and I'm holding your hands," Emma gushed, her voice breaking with emotion. My expression tightened. "You're my role model, and I want to be just like you in the near future—maybe even work with you." Emma continued to ramble, but there was no smile on Sylvia's face. Usually, when Celebs met their fan girls, they were extremely smiley and polite.

Instead, Sylvia looked disgusted by Emma's hands on hers. I could see a nerve ticking in her temple as she forced a tiny smile and tried to pull her hand away from Emma, who held on tightly.

"Emma," I whispered, and Emma quickly released Sylvia's hand.

"I'm sorry," Emma whispered, her face bashful. Sylvia smiled, but it didn't quite reach her eyes. I shouldn't be noticing every minuscule expression on her face but I felt like an obsessed stalker when it came to this woman.

"It's alright. I'm used to this. If you'll excuse me," Sylvia muttered. She said her goodbyes to the other guests, and her agent followed as she walked away.

I turned back to Emma, my eyes filled with displeasure. "What the fuck are you doing here anyway?"

"I told you, I got an invite, Keagan! And why would you ask me that? I'm your wife, and I'm entitled to go everywhere you go!" She nearly yelled, drawing the attention of some nearby guests. My chest burned with fury.

"Go home! Go home and be with the kids, Emma!" I said, turning away from her to avoid creating a scene.

Emma snickered at me before blocking my path again and shooting me a fierce look. "And you think I'm going to be like your dead Luna, Jessica? With no potential? Just a housewife who does everything with no brains?!" she spat, and I froze.

My blood turned pure ice before boiling hot with fury.

"How. Dare. You!" I snarled, enunciating every word. My wolf tore and growled against our link, trying to attack her. I could feel my eyes flickering between my wolf's and my human form.

"S-Sorry..." Emma paled and quickly stepped away from me.

Shit!

I clenched my fist, using every ounce of control to stop my wolf from pouncing on her. He hated anyone mentioning Jessica in a bad light, and it killed me over and over again that she was gone.

"Get the fuck out of my sight, now!" I barked, and she quickly spun on her heels.

My chest heaved with every breath, anger slicing through my veins.

"Alpha—" Hector began as he approached me.

I snapped a hand in the air, effectively shutting him up. Cold and pissed, I snatched up my phone from the table and made my way out of the hall for some fresh air.

"Alpha Keagan, this is urgent—" Hector began again, but he paused when I threw him a fiery glare. He continued, his face etched with worry. "It's about Sylvia."

My breathing ceased, my entire body freezing in place.

"What?" I asked, fully alert.

"Sylvia... Sylvia is missing."
