Chapter 66

Lana's POV

Looking around myself now, the seriousness of the situation dawned on me. I was deep in the heart of the enemy camp without any allies whatsoever.

Edwina had this twisted smile on her face, and it sickened me. Alpha Derrick, as well as the few other guards, looked at their fallen comrades, and the rage was evident in their eyes.

"That little bastard actually managed to kill three of our comrades before fleeing. It seems Lucian has quite a few capable hands. But you are going to pay for what that young man did," Alpha Derrick said, his tone growing dangerous.

"You are an Alpha. Why did you sit back and watch as your subordinates were murdered? Why did you not intervene in the fight?" I asked, perplexed as to why Alpha Derrick did not move a muscle when Lucas was tearing his subordinates apart.

"Would you have preferred if I intervened?" Alpha Derrick asked.

"Well..." While I was confused as to why Alpha Derrick did not fight Lucas, I was also glad he did not. "If you had gotten involved in that fight, it would have ended swiftly, and Lucas probably wouldn't have been alive to escape."

Alpha Derrick was an Alpha, just like Lucian, and therefore their strength wasn’t all that far apart. Lucas may be elite, but against the pressure and strength of an Alpha, he would give in and die.

"I am an Alpha, and for that reason, I cannot get involved in a life-and-death battle against mere Betas or Gammas. Such interference would be a disgrace and stain on my honor," Alpha Derrick said proudly.

"I was under the impression that you didn't have any honor at all," I said, staring at him fearlessly.

He stared at me for a while before chuckling. "You have some fire in you. I like that." He then turned to Edwina and asked, "It seems things have gone downhill for you. What are you going to do once Lucian finds out about all this? Your plan cannot work after what you did to Elena. So, what's the next step for you?"

"Well, there is a chance that Lucas has yet to tell Lucian what happened. Maybe he has already told Lucian where Elena is, but the fact of me being involved may have been overlooked. I will spy on their affairs for the time being, and if I notice that Lucian has no idea what I did, maybe I'll get rid of Lucas and act like I went somewhere during this whole thing," Edwina said.

"Oh really? What if you do end up taking care of Lucas? What will happen to your sister? I mean, if she gets out of here, I don't think she's going to keep her mouth shut and not tell Lucian what happened," Alpha Derrick said, staring at Edwina.

"Well, I've washed my hands clean of her. Do whatever you want with her," Edwina said and then turned to leave.

"Edwina, you're really going to let them kill me? Your own sister?" I asked desperately.

"You really think that we have any love for each other even though we are sisters? We have betrayed each other relentlessly over the years, and I don't think my decision should come as a shock to you. If you had escaped, you would not have hesitated to tell Lucian everything you saw here, including my involvement with Elena going missing. You know what Lucian would have done, or will do, when he eventually finds out. So don't try to play the sister card now. If it's in their good graces, Alpha Derrick and his men here, after being done with you, may choose to let you live. What if they don't..." Edwina chose not to finish her sentence and walked out of the room.

Being alone in the midst of strangers, who were also enemies that wanted my life, made me feel deep fear and loneliness.

"What are you going to do with me?" I asked as I turned to look at Alpha Derrick fearfully.

Alpha Derrick stared down at me for a long while, stroking his chin. "Maybe your presence here can be a bit productive. I've been trying to have my way with that troublesome friend of yours, but maybe with you around, I could actually make some real progress," Alpha Derrick said with a twisted look in his eyes.

I stared at Alpha Derrick, dreading his next move. After a while, he ordered the remaining guards beside him to grab me. "Bring her to Elena's cell. They can catch up and keep each other company for the time being. For now, I have a little errand to run," Alpha Derrick said and left.

The next moment, the guards grabbed me violently and dragged me across the hall. Not too long later, I was thrown into a jail cell where Elena was sleeping peacefully.

Apparently, the pregnancy was taking its toll on her now, and I was sure she was basically sleeping most of the time.

After the guards left, I stared at Elena as I cautiously began to approach her. I tapped her gently on her shoulder, and all of a sudden, I was attacked viciously.

My hand was slapped away, and a fierce kick was sent to my jaw. In a split second, Elena had me on my back, her hand pressed against my neck.

She looked down for a while, and after clearing the sleep from her eyes, she realized it was me.

I simply lay there helpless, unable to speak, waiting for her to make the realization. Eventually, she did.

"Lana? Is that you?" Elena asked as she slowly let go of me, giving us a bit of distance and observing me closely.

After rubbing my neck for a while and choking a bit, I said, "Well, it seems in your time here, you've grown to be even stronger than Lucian," I said through coughs.

"Lana, it's really you!" Elena said, and a big smile came across her face. She hugged me tightly and began to cry.

"Look who said she could never miss me. You look like you couldn't go another day without me," I said, patting her on the back softly.

"Oh my gosh, Lana, I'm so sorry that I didn't believe you. You saw through Edwina's true nature and intentions, but I was too foolish to realize it. I pushed you aside when you were only looking out for me. Can you ever forgive me?" Elena asked, staring at me with teary eyes.

"Come now, Elena, you know I have no grudge against you. If I was still mad at you, I wouldn't have dared come here," I said and decided to sit back.

"Oh yes, why are you here?" Elena asked, wiping the tears from her eyes.

"Well, after you disappeared, I was 100% sure Edwina was responsible for your disappearance. But because I had no proof against her, I could not really take the case to Lucian right away. I involved the help of Lucas in the whole situation and had him keep an eye on Edwina. Eventually, Lucian came to me, and I had no choice but to tell him about my suspicions of Edwina. He pressured her quite a bit, and under his severe pressure, she decided to make a move. Lucas, who was constantly watching and monitoring her, notified me when he saw her leaving the pack. We both followed her and snuck here. A brutal battle just occurred outside, and Lucas managed to escape. I can't say the same for myself, though. Either way, I'm just glad you're okay," I said, explaining the events of the past few days to Elena.

"Wow, I guess so much has happened in my absence. How did Lucian react when he realized I was gone?" Elena asked, intrigued.

"Well, for one thing, he was far more furious and worried than I thought. When I expected him to keep a cool head and interrogate Edwina using special tactics, he actually lost his mind and nearly killed her just to find out where you were. It was funny and terrifying at the same time. If Lucian had the slightest bit of proof against Edwina, and I'm talking concrete proof, he may have killed her already," I said.

"Wow. It seems Lucian feels more than he gives off, huh?" Elena said, looking around, embarrassed.

I chuckled at how bashful she was being. But then I asked, "How did you get so defensive and terrifying? All I did was tap your shoulder, and you nearly ripped my throat out."

"Yeah, I'm really sorry about that. It's just I thought you were Alpha Derrick. These past few days, he has been relentless in visiting me here and trying to have his way with me. Because of that, I need to always have my guard up, even when I'm asleep. If I give him any leeway or opening to get past me, he won't hesitate to take the opportunity. That's why I was so vicious with my attacks when you came. I didn't mean to hurt you," Elena said sadly.

"It seems you've suffered quite the ordeal while here," I said, patting Elena on the back.

"It's been hell for me here. I just hope Lucian comes here quickly. I don't think I can survive another day here. I hardly have any time to sleep, and occasionally, Alpha Derrick tries to hit me in my stomach to make me lose the pregnancy. I have to protect not only myself but the baby as well, and it's not easy," Elena said sadly.

"It's hard to believe that you've been fighting a man as large and strong as that for three days straight. You are stronger than I ever thought," I said, marveling at Elena's strength

Just then, the doors to the cell room opened. About eight guards walked into the room and opened the door to the jail cell.
