Chapter 151: 151 Heartbreaking discovery

The story that a human had made contact with the pack quickly caught on. The pack had not received humans in many years. The only way to reach the Moon Howlers pack, which was tucked away in a dangerously dense jungle, was via it. If you didn't cross it to go to the road, nobody would know about it.

The location Matt was going, which wasn't even marked on the map, was something he had heard about from Nate. Matt was only kept in the dark about the fact that it was teeming with werewolves. Should he be aware of it, he would be overcome with fear and lack the bravery to proceed there and provide Caiden with the necessary proof.

In the morning, Matt received a message from Nate informing him of an upcoming surprise and requesting him to follow through on their plan with Caiden before heading to the Moon Howlers pack. Given that Matt would have to cross a forest that was home to three of the most dangerous packs, Nate was aware that this request would endanger Matt's life.

But Nate's message was more accurate. He said that he would meet a young man by the name of Oscar on the side of the road, and that the man would assist him in reaching Caiden.

Nate called Oscar an hour before he left the city to head back to the pack on the last train of the evening. It seemed as though Nate could see into the future, knew what lay ahead for him, and had orchestrated the great victory that neither Jessie nor Enzo could have imagined.

“I got here with the help of a young man named Oscar.” Matt disclosed while seated in front of Caiden. "The trail through the forest appears to be hazardous and steep."

"Is Oscar here?" The Alpha's expression was one of surprise.

"Are you acquainted with him?" Matt questioned, straightening up in the chair that seemed like it was twice his usual size.

"I am familiar with him. His eyes grew distance. "Every detail seems to have been considered by Nate."

Looking at the package that had been placed on his desk, Caiden suddenly lost his bearings. He realized he hadn't prepared for this moment since the reality was all there.

"This may sound strange, but why is the Moon Howlers pack city inaccessible?" Asked Matt. "It appears that you are all hiding like wolves."

After getting up and getting a bottle of water out of the refrigerator to give to Matt, Caiden remarked, "It's something like that. I decided that this would be a better option as the head of this city. Matt, don't worry; we follow the law. We won't break any of them, I promise."

Caiden pretended to be normal. Even though Matt appeared to be a reliable person, it wasn't a smart idea to divulge the secrets that the pack was keeping from the outside world.

He said, "I believe you, Caiden," and drank nearly all of the liquid after opening the bottle immediately, showing how thirsty and tired he was from the journey all the way to that place.

"On the way home, Nate was attacked." With regret, he answered. "After searching for days, I found him injured and made the decision to take him away, to a safe place."

"So, they attempted to murder him?" Rather than seeming like an inquiry, it felt like Matt's personal conclusion. "Nate planned for my trip here because he thought this would happen."

"Indeed." Caiden took a seat again and fixed his gaze on the box. "But don't be worried. I've been informed that Nate is doing well and getting well soon."

He dabbed at the sweat on his brow and said, "That relieves me greatly. After all, when I assisted him in identifying the person responsible for your children's kidnapping, I put him in this dangerous situation."

For a split second, Caiden felt helpless to respond.

"I'm sorry for being the messenger of the truth, Caiden. Nate told me it would change your life forever." Matt took the box and pushed it in Caiden's direction. "And it's in front of you, right now."

Caiden felt as though he couldn't even touch that box. He was terrified of the truth for the first time.

"Naturally, though, my whole purpose in coming here was to give you this." Matt got ready to stand up. "You can watch it whenever it's convenient for you."

"Matt, please tell me." After hearing Caiden's remarks, he decided against going. "What's contained in this box?"

He disclosed, "A recording of an interrogation. Actually, it's the questioning that Nate carried out with the lone kidnapping survivor. Without a doubt, you will recall the man who was bitten on the leg."

"I remember him perfectly," but when Caiden realized he was the only one who had survived, it shocked him. "Whatever became of the others?"

He disclosed, "Some kind of animal with claws killed them. Although it may seem odd coming from me, it seemed as though wolves had attacked them."

Caiden was taken aback to learn that his children had been abducted by a werewolf.

"It's odd," he answered, appearing to be in a stupor. "You showed a great deal of bravery by coming here to keep your friend's promise. Matt, your life is in jeopardy too."

"I know that," he answered, and his expression turned sad at that moment. "However, I also have kids, and I'm not sure what I would do if they abducted one of them. My need for justice is the reason I'm here."

Caiden respected his human nature. He didn't spend much time with others, but when he did, he was pleasantly surprised by how kind people could still be.

"So, do you know who was in charge of kidnapping the kids?"

Caiden's heart was getting smaller as he spoke, drawing him closer to the truth.

"Yes," he answered. "I was prepared to issue arrest warrants for them, along with clearing Kamara's name, the quadruplets' mother. However, Nate requested that I provide the proof to you first so that you might advise me on what to do."

Caiden felt a chill run through his body. Those close to Nate had to be the masterminds if he had asked for that.

"By doing this, I'm violating police policies and procedures." Matt remarked, feeling his throat dryen once more. "But I would put all my trust in Nate—I know him so well."

Caiden had to have faith as well. Nate had put his life in danger to get the truth. Now that he had placed Matt in danger and in the line of everything, Caiden was powerless to back down. He extended his hand, grabbed the package, and ripped it open. In addition, he removed a DVD. And then, he approached the TV and put the disc into the outdated player. He inhaled deeply before hitting the play button. Matt stood beside him and put his hand on his shoulder as the audio started. It was only when he began to hear the accused speak that he realized how crucial that help would be.

The words circled around in his head until Caiden scarcely realized he was limping on the couch from lack of leg strength.

Matt sat down next to Caiden and said, "I'm really sorry."

"This is not possible." He closed his eyes and put both hands on his head.

Caiden would have to concede that it was true.
