Chapter 16
Amelia was overcome by a bout of nerves. She felt her body shudder as she felt herself begin to rethink everything. Maybe she wasn't put out for all of this after all. For a moment, she was tempted to turn back around and leave as her fight or flight instinct threatened to take over.
But she was left frozen when she felt a hand on her back. She looked up to see that Alice was poking at her with a smile. They pulled open the door together as she took a deep breath and tried to tell herself that it would be alright. She wanted to be nice so that it would all work out in the end.
At least that's it. She knew that she had to tell herself that was what was going on. It would help her to get over the fact that she was just about to walk into the lion's den and that she was going there blind. They made their way down the hall and she took a moment to admire the sights that were on each wall.
There were intricate paintings and fine carpets as they headed towards the large, winding stairs. "Okay I know that you are nervous. I know that you want to go back but don't worry. I believe that you will get through this. There are those that will try to stand out by being the loudest in the room and they will attempt to showcase your abilities but you should know that now isn't the time for that. You will have your time to demonstrate what you can do. What you should really focus on is looking at the people around. Try and make friends and see who are those that you could find yourself forming an alliance with. That Is how you will get through this." She said to her.
She nodded her head at hier in response as she took in her every word. She understood that it did make sense but for a moment she wondered if she would be able to make any fire. She didn't have the charisma or the charm for any of that.
"Now I have given you a dress. Not just any dress but the perfect dress. You don't have to sell it because it will sell itself and that is what you need to know if the last important thing is lost. You are there to show that you are a work of art. You do not do the selling but rather you tell yourself". Hse said.
She reached in, took a hold of her hand and gazed at it with a gentle squeeze. She let out a sigh from her lips at the very thought as they began to make their way down the stairs. She could feel her heart racing against her chest and for a moment she wondered if what she was doing was the right thing.
They could hear smooth jazz coming from the banquet hall as they came to a stop in front of a large door that he saw was guarded by several men. They came to a stop in front of the door as she watched as Alice turned to look towards her with a bright smile on her face. She squeezed her hand lightly.
"Well i have to go. I need you to help the other wives with something but I will try to make it back in time. You will be great. You just have to show your prestige. Focus on what you know and allow your instincts to take over. They said but Amelia felt her heart race as she began to panic. She tried to seem calm but in truth she was panicking terribly on the inside.
The guards looked over at her as she watched as several emotions flashed through their eyes. She couldn't entirely pinpoint that but she wanted to stay strong. "Good evening. Lady". He said to her in response.
She sucked in a deep breath as she thought it over before she nodded her head shakily. She watched as they froze for a moment before clearing their throats as they pulled the doors open. Her breathing hitched before she watched as they pulled the doors open for her and made way for her to pass through.
She gasped as she widened her eyes at the sight that was in front of her. There was a large dinner table that had several dishes on it. There had to be at least a hundred chairs, and she could hear the loud chatter coming from another.
There were several ladies around the room as well as several other men. They mainly wore uniforms and she guessed that that was because they were warriors and that they held important positions in the lack.
She was tempted to turn around and leave. But she was stopped suddenly when she heard a sound coming from behind her. She felt her body tense up. "Where are you going? she heard the voice call Out but it sounded much louder than she had thought.
She turned around as she came face to face with a girl with a tattooed head and piercings on her upper lip. She had a friend's face on her face. Ubmm, I think this might be a bad idea." She buttered it and watched as the girl shook her head at her. She responded as she squeezed her hand tightly.
"You aren't going anywhere until you get to sit down and enjoy some of this dinner." The girl said to her and she couldn't help but furrowed her eyebrows at the way she was behaving. There was a part of her that couldn't help but wonder if she knew her from somewhere maybe and that was the reason why she was acting in such a way. But she quickly shook her head as she turned down the idea.
She was pulled out of her thoughts when she felt several sets of eyes trained on her. She was nervous as she felt as though her shin was crawling. "Why are they staring at me?" She asked her out loud.
She watched as the girl chuckled before she led her towards a seat in the middle of the table. She could still feel deveral eyes trained on her and when she turned to face then she watched as a mixture of emotions flashed through their eyes. She could help but wonder what was the reason for their upset.
Well, I think that the reason is because you are drop dead gorgeous and they are jealous." She said to her and she was about to open her mouth to refute her claim, but she was instantly stopped when she heard the sound of a trumpet being blown.
They all froze in their seats as they turned their gazes towards the door to see where the sound was coming from.
"I present to you the Alpha."
