Chapter 58: Mathias's Mate
Mathias looked at Merymere, seeing that her eyes were the same blue as Michelle’s eyes. “I am, yes, let me introduce you to the rest of our group. This is Drake, Remus, Lumus, Neil, Darius, and Sheamus. Guys, this is Merymere, and girls, you know her already?” Stella piped up with childlike excitement. “Yeah, we have class together in Drelduin’s class. She made quite the impression on the 3 of us during class. Welcome to our little group.” Merymere smiled and felt at home. “Thank you so much. I know in class I looked like someone who can stand up to anyone, but I try not to, because I am a siren, people always seem to fear me and what I can do.”
Michelle stepped forward, hugging her, “Well, no one will be scared now, because no matter what you do, you can’t use a siren’s call on a werewolf to love you, because of the mate bond. So now, they will leave you alone. And seeing as you are mated to Mathias, you are now considered a Royal.” Merymere just smiled, a sad smile. “My mom would have been proud. She was the head of our clan, but humans hunted her down along with my aunt, some of the other older women from my clan. Some of the younger women took my cousin and me and ran. We now live in a little fishing town, close by here.” Mathias pulled her against him, kissing the top of her head softly. “No one will hunt you or your clan down any longer. You will all be protected now by the treaty.”
Merymere looked at everyone and knew that her family would truly be safe now. Mathias looked at her, “Where are all the men from your clan?” She looked at her hands, not sure how to tell them the truth. “Well, … The thing is …” Michelle took her hands, which caused her to look up. “It’s ok, we’re not here to judge you, we just want to know why the men of your clan left your clan unprotected.” With that, Merymere smiled sadly. “I was about 10 when my dad and the rest of the men went out hunting for our annual Tidal Celebrations. Only, they never came back, all my mom and some of the other women found were fins and their clothes, and parts of their necklaces.”
Everyone just looked at her. But it was Stella who spoke up. “Wait, this was about 8 or 9 years ago, right?” Merymere nodded, not sure what Stella was on about. So, Stella pulled out her diary from her bag. “Guys, round about the same time, one of our warlocks was captured and tortured for a spell. A very specific spell.” Merymere looked at her, shock registering. “No, Stella, no, please tell me you are not serious. That means….” She stepped back, and Mathias just held her tight against him, rubbing her side and kissing her head softly, trying hard to calm her down. Stella looked at Michelle. “Sweety, this is all about you.”
Michelle looked confused, but Drake knew what Stella was referring to. “We need to call mom and dad now. They need to call all the leaders together, but in one place, over video conference. We need to explain what has been happening.” “Wait, we get mom and dad and the others involved?” Michelle still couldn’t grasp it at the moment. As soon as Darius put her arm around her waist, she looked at him, and he apologized before using his one ability to help her see everything that had happened over the years, including the recent few days. After a few seconds, she blinked, and a single tear rolled down her cheek. “Drake, …” Everyone watched as she started glowing, spread her wings out, and a brilliant light covered them all.
Her eyes glowed brightly, the colour a mixture of her eyes, Silver’s eyes, and this bright glow. Darius felt a surge of emotion flow through him. Something he was not used to. He looked at her, cupping her cheek, “Cher, calm down. We are ok for now; we just need to get the right people to be aware of what is on its way.” She looked at him, “My dear sweet love, …” Her voice is angelic and musical. “It is not on its way; it is here already… Drake, ask Mom and Uncle Michael to get here fast. I will see if I can get Uncle Luke and Uncle Gabriel to come here.”
She looked up at the sky, praying that Gabriel and Luke would hear her. A few seconds later, she felt a hand on her shoulder. “Michelle, we’re here. Calm down, it is still far away, you are all safe.” Merymere looked behind Michelle, her eyes wide and her mouth hanging open. Stella tapped her shoulder, and she shook her head slightly to clear her mind, as she whispered to Stella, “Are those real angels?” Ember looked at Merymere, “Yeah, they are Michelle and Drake’s uncles.” Michelle folded her wings, and her glow dulled slightly. “You came.” She hugged them both. She turned and looked towards the woods behind the building, hearing a wolf, and feeling her mom, uncle, and dad, and a few other wolves coming towards them. Celine and Michael were flying overhead, while the wolves were all running in wolf form. As they all reached the group, a portal opened, and through it walked the head of each species. At the same time, 3 girls came running from the dorm. Michelle turned and looked at them. One was a human girl, and the other 2 were werewolves. They were all friends and stayed in the same dorm room.
As they reached the group, they all stopped short. The human girl looked at Lumus, and Neil stepped forward, “Sheila, no, stop.” Lumus stepped in front of Neil. “MATE! MINE!!” Drake took Neil and pulled him back, “He won’t hurt her. Trust me.” Neil turned to Drake, “That is my cousin. She grew up with me and Louis. Her parents were killed by something dark, 10 years ago.” Sheila looked at Neil, “It’s ok, I know who he is. I know what he is. I know he will never hurt me.” Turning to Lumus, she cupped his face, “Hey, big guy, my name is Sheila. You’re Lumus, right?” Lumus pulled her into a hug, sniffed her hair, and just held her until his wolf calmed down. “Yes, I am Lumus. I have been waiting for you.”
