Chapter 89: Chapter eighty-nine

His step….. WHAT?!

I thought they were brothers.

My jaw dropped at what he just said.

But….

Never! Alpha Alex is known among the kindest Alphas in the realm to try such. I wanted to disagree but I could detect the honesty in his tone so at the end I just had to watch in shock.

This is unbelievable.

"He's my step brother and not my real brother." He said as if he could hear my inner thoughts.

My mouth went agape at his revelation. WTF!

Seeing the flush on my face, Asher continued. "I am older than him, not just older but the rightful person for that position. It was almost close to the day of my coronation as the Alpha. Alpha Xandros, my father has decided to step down, he's now old but a few days toward the coronation we had an issue, a little misunderstanding in the council meeting and Alex and elders happened to be there."

He sighed as he recalled the incident.

Pain and regret swirling in his eyes.

"I believe it's a perfect timing for him, so that night after bathing I came out but couldn't find my heirloom. I searched and searched until two days later when I saw it in the room where my father's corpse was lying."

"And you conclude it's Alpha Alex?" I asked, still not getting how Alex was involved in this because that man was a definition of a good man.

He has ruled the shadowglade pack for years now. Infact, everybody has almost forgotten about the incident because Asher here has been concluded to be dead.

"We never get along. I know he had always had an eye on that position, and before I left…." He smiled coldly, crossing his arms over his chest. "I can't forget his words. I never knew it would be so easy to climb the position, farewell bro. I, Alex, get whatever I want no matter what and trust me nobody will believe you. Your heirloom was enough evidence."

My brow knitted together, if not that I could feel his honestly through the bond I could have doubted him.

But his pain and honesty that coursed down the bond has me paralyzed.

" I have stayed hidden for years training, preparing myself for the future with the hope that one day I will reclaim what I lost. I haven't attacked yet because I didn't have a strong pack to back me," he concluded with a smirk and then fixed her gaze on me, the sadness wavering off, leaving behind curiosity. "Why do you want to leave?"

Whatever he just said now was enough for me to flee off.

"Rora,"

There was something with the way he called my name. I swallowed and stared into those captivating green eyes. "I asked you a question. Why do you want to leave earlier and do you mind if I ask you who that guy chasing you in the woods was that day?"

My eyes instantly squeezed shut. Beckett's face flashed in my head before I sighed and reopened them again.

"One question at a time," I repeated his words and he chuckled, nodding his head.

"I want to return because of my friend, Isabella. I doubt she is okay there." I sighed and his chin raised curiously at my words. "..... especially not when the guy was still around her," I added and Asher frowned. "Is he her mate?"

I snapped a sharp look at him. " No!" I condemned real quick. Isabella can never be mated to that backstabber. "Look…" I leaned forward.

I don't know if to share this with him but he's my mate, right? And he just told me about himself so why not speak up. I took a deep breath after minutes of contemplation and resumed.

"My friend, more like a sister, was Isabella. The only girl that never looked down on me or ridiculed me because I am an omega. She took me so dear, just the same way I took her but something happened," I said, perking his interest. "I'm from black moon pack, rules by Alpha Lucius,"

He nodded at me. "I know about him."

I wanted to ask him how but I kept quiet. Maybe he knew him before he was cast out.

I brushed it off and continued.

"He married Isabella, a forced marriage against her will. Since she was tagged wolfless, her uncle sold her to him so as an omega, I was being assigned to her as her maid. And Alpha Lucius gave me a bottle of liquid content to be sprinkling in whatever she eats or drinks without letting her know with the lies that she is sick and the medicine will help heal and prolong her life. I took it without knowing that I had been poisoning her food and suppressing her wolf,"

"I thought she was wolfless?" he uttered, his tone a bit high but his non-judgmental eyes were enough to push me into speaking more.

"No, it was trapped. I had no idea," I replied. "So when she finally get to find her mate_"

" Sorry, what's the name of the liquid?" His deep voice cut in and I mouthed it, shocking him. "Lunar morti,"

"Wow!" His lips formed an "O" sound.

"So when it happens that Alpha Valerio was her mate," his brow shot up in surprise. "Black moon pack and Nightshade pack never get along."

His tone interrupted once again. "I know," I trailed off, and frowned. Does he know about the battle between Black moon pack and the Nightshade pack? How was that possible? How he always gets to know everything happening despite living inside this woods still confuses me.

Seeing my reaction, he instantly shrugged his shoulders. " News flies,"

"Oh." I mumbled silently, still hurling him skeptical stares. "So we escaped only to end up in a nightshade pack. Everything was moving well until Alpha Valerio saw the bottle in my hold," I explained everything to him, including my confrontation with Brielle and how Beckett gets into the picture.

He didn't say any other thing and just sat there, listening to me as I voiced out everything.

Once I finished, he let out a light cough and unfolded his arms.

"It's interesting to hear that Valerio is love-stuck about this girl, Bella."

What does he mean? I scowled.

Noticing my confusion, he raised his hands in the air instantly with a shrug. " I have heard that he is a ruthless, proud and heartless creature." He spat out as if he knew him personally.

"He's not like what the rumors portray him to be. Alpha Valerio is a very nice person," I had barely completed the words when instantly Asher's face darkened and a low growl emitted out from his chest, scaring me.

I quickly adjusted to my position.

My heart skipped a beat.

"Don't idolize another man in my presence, little mate!" His voice dropped to a low, ominous rumble and I gulped hard, my grip tightened hard on the sides of my dress.

Asher's sharp gaze fell on them before he sighed, his face softened and his muscles relaxed back as if nothing just happened.

It's how he fucking switched into different moods at a time.

He gave me a long look, a dangerous smirk making it to his bottom lips. "You are truly sent to me by the goddess,"

I grimaced. "Huh?"

"I have seen this Beckett guy often with Alpha Lucius. I think I might be holding what Valerio wants." He murmured more to himself, his lips stretching into a wide smile but I heard him.

" What are you talking about?"

He returned my stare, the smile never leaving his lips.

"Get ready. We will be leaving to Nightshade pack."
