Chapter 144 Elijah: The Siege in Alderwood
Chapter 144 Elijah: The Siege in Alderwood
The Arlington estate lay ahead—not too far, but I could see it was heavily guarded. Riddick stood beside me, glanced over, and nodded politely.
"In the end, we stand together against a common enemy. You once sought my help, and... here we are," Riddick chuckled softly. "Fate has led us in circles, only to bring us together again."
"Thank you, Alpha Riddick. Especially in such a chaotic time, I did not expect you to offer your help."
"This is for the good of all of us, King Elijah. Not just the interests of one side," Riddick said, patting me on the shoulder. "Let's get ready."
When my palace was attacked, I fought back with everything I had to defend my territory. I had experience in war.
But to attack another pack? That was another story.
Maybe it was my mother's blood running through my veins, but I wasn't like Edison or Elena. They were raised to be superior royal wolves. Me? I was just a lost cub with Omega blood in my lineage.
If I had Edison's conquering instincts, this would be much easier. But I didn't. And now, as we approached Arlington's estate, my heart pounded harder with each step.
We moved quickly through the shadows of the trees, keeping silent to avoid detection. The moment we reached the mansion's stone walls, the Alphas leaped to them and quickly climbed them.
A battle broke out with Arlington's guards.
Despite the tight security, they were unprepared for our ambush. We neutralized the guards at the wall without a single casualty.
With the way clear, I rushed inside with Riddick, Raphael, and half the Alphas. The mansion was eerily quiet, its owners no doubt deep in slumber.
The Alphas split into small groups, kicking down doors as they searched the house. They found Arlington and Eloise in their bedroom.
"King Elijah!!" Arlington tumbled out of bed and crawled toward me in sheer panic as if he had seen a ghost. "Please! Spare our lives! Don't hurt us! I beg you!"
"You live in luxury, Arlington, while your people suffer," I hissed.
"I-I..."
Before Arlington could stammer out an excuse, Riddick simply pointed at him. "Seize him," he ordered.
We searched the entire mansion. Dozens of royal wolves from other packs had been held here, many of them females, forced into servitude.
When they saw us, they wept with gratitude, relieved to be free at last.
After securing the estate, we gathered Arlington's followers and the remaining alphas in the meeting hall. Raphael approached me.
"We must hold this mansion, King Elijah. If not, Camden or Wanda will try to take control," he said. "And from here, it will be easier to launch an attack on the palace with a full army."
Indeed, Arlington's mansion was vast—an ideal stronghold. But staying here too long would expose us to Wanda's forces.
We had to move quickly.
"Yes, I was thinking the same thing," I nodded. "But we're going to need more wolves to guard this place."
"We can send word. They'll be here as soon as possible."
"That's great. If Alpha Jeremy and Michael are successful, they'll come here too, right?"
Raphael nodded. "Yes."
Our conversation was interrupted by the arrival of several maids. The moment I saw two of them, my heart stopped.
My maids - they were still alive!
Kat and Flo immediately bowed, tears streaming down their faces. They looked at me with overwhelming relief and gratitude.
"King Elijah! Thank the Moon Goddess!" they shouted in unison.
Delilah would be so happy to know that they had survived. Even I felt an immense sense of relief.
"I'm glad you're both safe," I told them.
"Where is Beta Vincent?" Kat asked, her voice shaking. "We haven't heard from him since the mansion was taken, my king."
"Vincent is gone."
"What?" They gasped in shock.
Kat and Flo fell silent, their grief sinking in. Moments later, they were sobbing uncontrollably.
Vincent was part of our family. Who wouldn't feel the weight of his loss? Even I felt an emptiness in my chest, a void he had left behind.
"So... are we returning to the mansion after this, my king?" Flo asked hesitantly.
I shook my head. "No. We'll attack the palace first. You'll stay here - I'll see to your safety. Or... if you prefer, you can stay with Delilah at Pinecrest."
"Queen Delilah?!" Their eyes widened in shock. "She's safe?"
I couldn't help but smile as I nodded. "Yes. And... Delilah and I now have twin cubs."
