Chapter 185: A Bond in Peril

**Koffi's POV**

"Wake up, Koffi!"

A sharp sting radiates across my cheek, jolting me from the oppressive darkness. My eyes flutter open to find Ronan's face inches from mine, his expression a mix of relief and urgency.

"Thank the spirits," he mutters, helping me sit up. The world spins briefly before settling into the grim reality of our surroundings.

The clearing is in chaos. Wolves scramble to regroup, their eyes wide with confusion and fear. The air is thick with the acrid scent of burnt earth and the lingering echo of Lyric's transformation.

"Where is she?" I demand, my voice hoarse.

Ronan's jaw tightens. "She vanished after... after you were thrown back. Took off into the forest. Some of the pack tried to follow, but..." He trails off, his gaze shifting to a group of wolves nursing fresh wounds.

Desperation claws at my chest. "We need to find her."

"Koffi, wait," Ronan interjects, gripping my arm. "It's not just about Lyric anymore. While you were out, we received reports. A rogue faction—wolves who have been exiled or left the packs—they're rallying. And they're aligning themselves with whatever that... entity is inside Lyric."

I stare at him, disbelief warring with dread. "They're siding with The Forgotten One?"

He nods grimly. "They see it as an opportunity to overthrow the established packs. To seize power."

The weight of his words presses down on me, but I can't—won't—accept that Lyric is lost to this malevolent force. Our bond is deeper than any ancient deity's influence.

"I have to reach her," I insist, pulling away from Ronan. "Our mate bond—it's still there. I can feel it."

Ronan's eyes soften with concern. "Koffi, even if you can reach her, there's no guarantee she'll respond. Or that she'll even recognize you."

"I have to try," I reply, determination hardening my resolve. "I won't abandon her to this fate."

He studies me for a moment before nodding. "Then we'll do it together. But we need a plan."

**Lyric's POV**

Darkness coils around me, a suffocating shroud that presses against my mind. I can feel it—him—the ancient presence seeping into every corner of my consciousness, whispering insidious promises of power and dominion.

"Get out!" I scream, thrashing against the invisible chains that bind me. "This is my body! My mind!"

A cold, mocking laughter reverberates through the void.

"Foolish child," the voice hisses. "You invited me in. Now, we are one."

Memories flash before me—Koffi's smile, our shared dreams, the warmth of our bond. I cling to them, using them as anchors to resist the encroaching darkness.

"Koffi..." I whisper, desperation lacing my voice. "Help me."

**Koffi's POV**

We move swiftly through the forest, the moon casting a silvery glow on the path ahead. Ronan and a select group of trusted wolves flank me, their senses attuned to any sign of Lyric or the rogue faction.

"Over here," one of the scouts calls, pointing to a series of deep gouges in the earth—evidence of a recent struggle.

I kneel beside the marks, my fingers brushing against the disturbed soil. "She's close," I murmur, closing my eyes and reaching out with my senses.

The mate bond thrums faintly, a delicate thread connecting us. I focus on it, willing it to strengthen, to guide me to her.

"Koffi," Ronan warns, "we're not alone."

Emerging from the shadows, a group of wolves—eyes gleaming with defiance—encircle us. At their forefront stands a tall, scarred male, his posture radiating authority.

"Koffi," he sneers, "always the loyal mate."

"Darius," I acknowledge, keeping my voice steady. "What are you doing here?"

He chuckles darkly. "Isn't it obvious? We're tired of living under the old ways. The Forgotten One offers a new path. A path where we are the rulers, not the ruled."

"By possessing Lyric?" I retort, anger flaring. "She's not a vessel for your ambitions."

Darius's expression hardens. "She is the key to our liberation. With her power, we can reshape our world."

Before I can respond, a chilling voice echoes through the clearing.

"Enough."

Lyric steps forward, her eyes glowing with an unnatural light. The air around her crackles with energy, and a sinister smile curves her lips.

"Let the war begin," she declares, her voice layered with The Forgotten One's resonance.

A cold dread settles over me as the reality of the impending conflict looms large.

**Lyric's POV**

I watch through a haze as my body moves of its own accord, The Forgotten One's will overriding my own. I see Koffi's stricken face, feel the turmoil roiling within him.

"Fight it, Lyric!" he pleads, his voice cutting through the oppressive fog.

I want to respond, to reach out to him, but the chains tighten, and the darkness pulls me deeper.

"Soon," The Forgotten One whispers, "he will join us, or he will fall."

Tears blur my vision as I muster the last of my strength, sending a silent message through our bond.

"I'm still here, Koffi. Don't give up on me."

**Koffi's POV**

Her words—faint but unmistakable—resonate within me, igniting a fierce determination.

"Prepare yourselves," I command, my voice steady. "We fight for our future. For Lyric."

As the two factions brace for battle, I lock eyes with Lyric, silently vowing to free her from the darkness that seeks to consume us all.

The tension in the air is palpable as both sides stand poised on the brink of war. Lyric's body shudders, and for a brief moment, her eyes flicker with recognition.

But then, the sinister smile returns, and she raises her hand, dark energy swirling around her fingers.

"Let the war begin," she repeats, her voice echoing with finality.

The first clash of steel rings out, and the battle for our world—and Lyric's soul—begins.
