Chapter 233: 233

As Alpha Carl heard Breanna’s name, his entire body tensed, and his eyes glowed with a dangerous light, radiating an aura of pure fury. His thoughts raced, ignoring Alpha Xavier’s taunting words. The truth behind Xavier’s sudden trip to the United States now became clear—Breanna had betrayed him. She had revealed Leo’s true identity to Xavier, giving him a reason to take action. Xavier wasn’t just there to reclaim Bella; he was there to retrieve his son, his flesh and blood.

Alpha Carl clenched his fists as his thoughts churned. He knew Bella and Xavier’s divorce had been orchestrated by Elinor, Xavier’s grandmother. Bella’s inability to bear the Xavier family’s heir had driven Elinor to madness. But now, with Xavier aware that Leo was his biological son, everything had changed. Xavier would never allow Bella to take Leo and bond with Alpha Zachary.

Carl could see how this would unfold. Xavier would do everything in his power to stop Bella and Zachary’s union. Even if Bella defied him and tried to marry Zachary, Xavier would fight her for custody of Leo. And with the Xavier family’s influence in the Pack, Bella wouldn’t stand a chance. If Xavier succeeded in taking Leo, Bella’s life would be left in ruins—and Carl couldn’t bear the thought.

The weight of Bella’s predicament pressed down on him, but his fury quickly shifted to Breanna. She was the one who had set this chaos in motion. If it weren’t for her, Xavier would have remained in the dark. Carl’s blood boiled, and his fingers tightened around his phone as he dialed Breanna’s number.

Breanna, lounging on her sofa, felt a rush of excitement when her phone lit up with Carl’s name. It wasn’t often that he called her. She had spoken to him just the day before, sharing information about Bella and Leo, and though the conversation had left her feeling uneasy, she had masked her discomfort with cheerfulness.

She had hoped that revealing Bella and Zachary’s plans to Carl would cause him to let go of Bella once and for all. She knew how deeply he cared for Bella, but she believed time would heal his wounds and allow him to commit to her fully.

Eagerly, she answered the call, her voice dripping with sweetness. “Alpha Carl, it’s late. What made you call me at this hour?”

Carl’s voice cut through her pleasantries like a blade, cold and furious. “Breanna, why did you reveal Leo’s true identity to Alpha Xavier? What are you trying to accomplish?”

The force of his anger startled her, and she flinched at the sharpness in his tone. She hadn’t expected this. Her joy evaporated, replaced by a sinking feeling in her stomach.

“Alpha Carl,” she began, her voice trembling slightly, “why are you so upset? I didn’t do anything wrong. I was only trying to help Bella and Leo.”

“Help?” Carl’s growl was low and threatening. “Don’t lie to me, Breanna. I know exactly what you’re doing. You’re jealous of Bella, and you’re trying to sabotage her happiness. You told Xavier about Leo to stop her from marrying Zachary, didn’t you? You wanted Xavier to take Leo away from her. Don’t try to deny it.”

Breanna’s heart pounded in her chest. She wanted to argue, to defend herself, but Carl’s words left her speechless. He knew her too well; he had seen right through her.

Trying to regain some control, she took a deep breath and spoke in a tone of wounded innocence. “Alpha Carl, you’re misunderstanding me. I only told Alpha Xavier the truth because I knew Bella would never ask him for help herself. Leo is suffering from leukemia, and the doctors said he could only be saved if Bella and Xavier had another child together. I thought that if Xavier knew, he would help save Leo without interfering in Bella’s future with Zachary. I only wanted to make things easier for everyone.”

Carl’s laugh was bitter, filled with disbelief. “Don’t insult my intelligence, Breanna. You think I don’t know you? You did this because you can’t stand the thought of Bella being happy. You’re so blinded by jealousy that you’re willing to destroy her life—and Leo’s—to get what you want. Let me make this clear: if anything happens to Bella or Leo because of this, I won’t forgive you. Do you understand me?”

Before she could respond, Carl ended the call, leaving her staring at her phone in shock. The screen went dark, and a cold chill ran down her spine.

Breanna’s hands trembled as she set the phone down. She had been so certain that her plan would work, but now everything was unraveling. Carl’s words echoed in her mind, his anger leaving her shaken.

She had revealed Leo’s identity to Xavier to prevent Bella and Zachary’s union. She had feared that if Bella became Zachary’s mate, she would become her sister-in-law, and their proximity would only deepen Carl’s lingering feelings for her.

But now, her fears were becoming a reality. Carl’s concern for Bella had been evident in his voice. If Bella and Carl became connected through Zachary, there was no doubt that Carl would continue to be drawn to her.

Even if Xavier reclaimed Bella and formed a second mating bond with her, Breanna would still be stuck in the same pack as Carl. She wouldn’t be able to escape the connection between them.

The thought of Carl longing for Bella, even after all these years, filled Breanna with jealousy and rage. She clenched her fists, her nails digging into her palms.

“No,” she whispered to herself, her eyes narrowing with determination. “As long as Bella exists, I’ll never have peace. She has to disappear—forever.”
